Not entirely sure that will be case, isn’t this the same club that sold a player and came out a month later saying it was a mistake and they didn’t sell him? The club has to be very careful in its transfer dealings with Strasbourg. Strasbourg fans “allegedly” even recently robbed Emegha’s home after he was sold or signed a pre contract agreement with us. With Strasbourg 3rd place and a point behind PSG, the last thing the club will do now is yank away their captain and derail their season.

It will be nice to see Marc get a goal at some point in his future. As always, we have to be patient.

I think Guiu will be ok as a striker, however it may be too tempting for Maresca to have his best players on the pitch or at least starting. Guiu is going to have to play out of his skin if he is to show he is at a similar level to say Joao Pedro & Estevao. I can see him getting 30 mins or so off the bench.

Reminds me of a similar situation with Kane at Tottenham. I think it was Sherwood at the time as a manager and he refused to use Kane until he had no choice because he ran out of strikers. I'm not saying Guiu is anywhere near Kane's level, but we can never know how good a player truly is until you give them minutes on the pitch to prove themselves. Training doesn't come close to telling the full story about a player's ability.

My main issue with Maresca not using Guiu is picking George ahead of him. George is not a striker and never will be. Even if he has more natural ability than Guiu, I would still play Guiu there because Guiu has the movement and understanding of the position.

The same board who cancelled Jacksons loan - and then loaned him anyway.

The same board who loaned Samuels-smith to Strasbourg, and then cancelled it, only to loan him to someone else.

This. I do think he will get minutes, but this shouldn't really be the place for 19yo to develop. There was a through ball that found Guiu against Liverpool and he couldn't control it. You aren't going get many chances like that at this level.

Guiu isn't very different, in terms of characteristics, when compared to Joao Pedro. I think George is occasionally used to get a different type up front; we may not like it, but that's the manager's prerogative.

Noticed how when Maresca ran up to the celebration huddle Guiu gave him a blank look. Definitely not on good terms with each other.

Not sure thats the case, I see them as very different players. Pedro is a wide/deep attacking player while Guiu is a proper box player, he has much more awareness of Centre Backs, how to control them, move them around, better with his back to goal etc. Pedro is an instinctive finisher who does more work outside the box away from the centre backs, running at defenders, running the channels etc.

Guiu is more like Delap, though Delap has more to his game off the ball than Guiu with the very intelligent runs he makes.

100%. I spotted that too. Guiu totally blanked him. I feel many of the players don't think a lot of Maresca. Can't blame them!

And your solution is to play Marc Guiu - who has never scored a goal ever in the 6 games he has played. Not a one goal - ever - in his entire 6 game career. Your "insight" into the beautiful game has been duly noted.

Fake news. Guiu scored 6 goals for us last season, over 619 minutes. Also scored 1 for Sunderland this season.

So to say he has never scored in his 6 game career is factually incorrect. Oh, and we also have a 100% win rate when he has played this season.

We all make mistakes sometimes - so dont worry about it.

As Carlo Ancelotti has explained J.Pedro is a very versatile player. Carlo likes to play him as a centrte forward for the Brazil team - but then what would Carlo know about football? Maybe Carlo never turns on his telly either?

Marc has made 6 games in the premier league - 4 for Chelsea and 2 for Sunderland with no goals and no assists.

Exactly the type of player who should be clocking up minutes for us in the League cup and against smaller pre sides.

Exactly why signing young unproven "raw" talent is a frustrating business.

Exactly why he should never have been sent on loan this season knowing Jackson was off...

Exactly the type of player to show why our recruitment stategy is robbing us.

Exactly the type of player to go on and be successful elsewhere if given the chance.

I like him simply because he occupies the trad 9 role, a striker to put the ball away, but he's missed some sitters and that knocked his confidence. Just needs minutes on the pitch with the players. Even if he only gets 10 goals it would be a big contribution to the team.

Great post SF. 99 minutes. Not enough minutes to equal one average Liverpool home game.

How can anyone make a judgement on that. Maybe, when has had the minutes Jamie Gittens has had, we can form a clearer picture.
