What do people want when he had Garnacho, Neto and J Pedro playing around you? Poor today, so were all of them. He did not get any assistance and at least he pressed much better than the other three.

Sorry mate, but these excuses are just that. He’s not very good, regardless of who was not playing well around him (or even what muppet is managing the team). It’s a pity, but he’s just not very good. I am 100% certain that nobody ever looks back in the future and says, Drogba, Haaland, Henry, Van Basten, Muller, or even Cascarino and then adds Guiu.

So far I'm not impressed but we can't say he's had enough chances still. Service was really poor and without Palmer we can't seem to find that final pass. He's fumbled a few decent ones to be fair, but he's still young. Ideally he would be racking up minutes on loan...

He's just too short. Bench player standard.

Physically? He is 6ft 2...

If you mean football ability, then that is another thing but for me just shows where we currently at when we had a player loaned to Sunderland who was a back up player to then leading the line against the team we loaned them to who was not starting for them... don't think I have seen that. He was good in his previous 2 appearances but still.

he is 18 - ideally, he shouldn't be anywhere near starting or playing so much for us.. unfair to target him.. Blame Jao and Neto and Enzo for not doing enough. and absolute shockers from Chalobah and Tosin.. our tactics didnt help.. we were soo static.. pedro wanted everything to feet so was garnacho gittens and neto.. With marescaball we need to be accustomed to having such games..

No way is he 6'2. He looks like one of the shortest players in the squad. Always getting beating in the air because hes up against someone taller.

Can't believe some of the stuff I am reading on here - including from posters who were overtly pro-Jackson. Guiu is better than Jackson in every way, other than the 'bull in a china shop' schtick - where they both are about level. To now pile in on the lad seems short sighted.

Malouda didnt pass to Torres.

And against sunderland - nobody passed to Guiu. The minimal touches he got will show that.

Borrowed from the usually useless f**kers at The Athletic

Marc Guiu received his few touches in a position behind our DMs. There was absolutely no intent or (IMO) instruction to seek him out in the attacking third, and rewatching the game he was used as a warm body/decoy for Neto/Garnacho to "cross" to the back post instead. Atrocious tactics from a atrocious manager, you could have had prime R9 in there with the same result.

Summed up perfectly, he was constantly making runs, moving defenders, finding space to then not have any passes go anywhere near him. He made 2 outstanding moves to the font post in the 1st half, only to see the "cross" sail right over his head and in one case out for a throw in. It was the usual clusterf**k in attack from our tedious manager.

yep - exactly. Good to see that the stats support this, and its not just the eye test.

almost as if we know what we are talking about..... almost...

It is too soon to say we play better with Marc Guiu as he has only started one game for us and we lost that game and he only touched the ball 7 times. Sure players should pass the ball to him more. Yep that would help him. I think he has potential, but for his personal growth he really should have been on loan. He was a total passenger against Sunderland. Very little evidence that he should be starter for us.

Not true, we'd just need a new manager that would let our full back overlap.

Cucurella overlapping beautifully on the left flank for Brighton against us was part of the reason that attracted us to signing him in the first place !

And for that whole season in the PL :

If we can confidently write off a teenager after his first ever PL start , there would be a lot of our more senior players who would have been in the same position after their PL debuts as well.

Almost the whole team could have been written off after the Sunderland game along with our Manager come to think of it 😂

It is different between playing fb Screenshot_20251030_090425_Gallery.jpgas what Cucurella is doing right now vs playing as high and wide winger. You will have Cucu in Garnacho position and Jp in Cucu position.

He will basically go back playing in role where he struggled big time under TT.

I don't think this is the reason. I remember TT compare Cucu to Azpi and he said if we play back 4 he will be competing with chilwell but not as wb.

You mean the role he flourished in at Brighton?

And Spain.

  • 2 weeks later...

He’s jinxed in the PL but I thought that he played well when he came on. His movement is good, he seems to have an instinct to be in the right pockets, and should have scored at least once. I like him and it is so obvious that having a proper 9, whether him or Delap, makes the team play better.
