I was just thinking that Palmer doesn't fit into a midfield with Caicedo. If we aren't playing with a No 10 palmer is right wing.

Palmer is the inside-forward in the 4-3-3.

KDH is the deep lying playmaker while Caicedo has the freedom to do his thing and so does Enzo.

This how you make a midfield, 2 stars and a hard working DM that has good positioning and that can pass the ball around and keep possession.

There are few talk about Palmer playing as a 8. I am just curious how do people expect Palmer to play that role.

Caicedo should be the 6 first of all with Cucurella or James inverting to give us that double pivot structure that Maresca likes.

But the systems puts significant pressure on the 8s to be goal and assist threat which is why for example Guardiola often have employed De Bruyne, Silva, Foden and even Alvarez as 8s in his setup. The one attacking player we have that can produce similar results from that area is Cole Palmer in my opinion. He'll need to adjust to the position, especially defensively but I don't think we get anywhere this season with Enzo (we've seen how he looks in attacking areas) and KDH there.

It could of course be that Enzo needs to be on the bench for the sake of balance with KDHs workrate and tenacity somewhat making up for Palmers lack of that but if that proves to be the case one would just hope Maresca had the balls to take such a ballsy decision (we know the owners wouldn't like it) But Enzo did become a bit redundant last season when Palmer decided to carry the attack on his own and if he continues to do that for us it will be Maresca's responsebility to balance the team out and do whats best for the club.

I think that Carney Chukwumeka is the 8 we need, and Palmer is not an 8 really he is either a 10 or a wing. However I clearly am not Maresca

You usually need somebody to dribble past somebody to force opp to help so you can free space in the middle. Most of this are just sideway pass and boom between the line and KDH can face forward and make a pass

That's the Championship for you. Defences range from good to a shower of absolute sh*t. Makes it so hard to gauge potential at the higher level.

Complete guess work. I would have thought Madueke would have thrived as a touchline winger and Palmer moved more central but the signing of KDH seems to hint at that not being the case. Also i'm not too sure Nkunku is the best fit out wide, but he's better than Mudryk and Sterling is possibly leaving so i've stuck him there. Wouldn't shock me to see Jackson wide left running the channels too. Could see Colwill at left back with someone like Disasi or Tosin in the middle.

Guess we won't know until the first pre-season.

He had 14 assists, could have had close to 20 with all the missed chances. That alone is a clear indicator that he is a PL player.

we struggled against a sh*t middlesbrough defence... so still probably one up on what we have/had

Hopefully this turns out as good as the Cole signing. Outside of that never really watched him play so can’t comment just welcome and all we ask is play for the badge.

Apparently he is now. The Athletic says he's been getting over a late-season Leicester problem, could be available this week or next. Jackson too.

Nope. He's only missed a single game through injury in his entire career to date. A calf injury that kept him out for 4 days in 2022.

Looked decent I thought. Lacking a finish, but could just be a bit rusty. 

He's going to get a lot of game time, at least initially as you can tell he's up to speed with the system compared to the other midfielders, even though it looks like it might have clicked for Lavia.

The defender put it over the line but it was already obviously on target. It is (or was it) not the case that a shot on target, even if deflected, remains the attacker's goal? Or have I missed something?

He provides a lot of balance right now, despite looking fairly rusty.

Knows where to position himself in transition

Tracks back defensively. 

 

Carney, Enzo, and potentially Caicedo will need to catch up to speed with him in understanding this system. 

He tied things together very well. A little bit rusty and can see him finishing those chances in the future. A lot to like for me - intelligent player. 

I said it just after we signed him, I think he will surprise some of our fans about how good he actually is.

He also knows the managers system so that surely has to be a bit of a bonus as well.

I just hope the manager is strong. We’ve so many midfielders it must be a nightmare to know the best 11.

Ive probably missed a few as well. Only 3 are going to start. Gallagher will go and Lesley will go on loan. 
 

A bad start to the PL and a weak manager starts second guessing himself. Could turn out really nasty.

Maresca seems to be quite stubborn though which should help him early doors.

If Gallagher doesn't go and it's not working crowd will be calling for Gallagher.

Good championship level player. Not sure if he can make the step up, didn't really impress when I saw him at Leicester a couple of years back. Strange signing tbh.
