Most didn’t watch the Wrexham game. I missed the first 20 of this one (Olympics) but actually on what I’ve seen the performance is far better.

Opponent makes a real difference as well. Celtic is open, Wrexham sat deep.

Reece James is one of the best if not the best wing backs in the world, he can cross, beat players, find space to shoot and score, on top of that he defends well. Playing him centre mid, inverted, call it what you want is never going to work. Now hes playing Gusto centre mid 🤦‍♂️

I’m struggling to see any benefit of this experiment

This is what I am thinking. Weird tinkering.

Madueke just doesn't have it and is never going to improve.  He looks lively running at them and getting in behind, but then he is just woeful. Been like it from the beginning tbh

What you think Sanchez, James, Fofana, Colwill, Lavia, Madueke, Nkunku, and Mudryk won't make the starting 11 for the first game?

Some will no doubt.

Sanchez, James and Nkunku would be definites imo and I think Colwill will start as a CB with Tosin.

It will also depend on how fit Palmer, Cucu, Enzo, Caicedo and Gallagher are by the time we play City.

Lavia is the interesting one. I reckon he’s a top, top player.

Then again…… what the f do I know?

The point stands though. This is just a step in pre season against a team that 2 weeks further into their pre season and they have far fewer players missing because of tournament football. Whatever you think of the football in Scotland, Celtic are a decent side. The Danish lad O’Reilly is a player as are most of their Japanese players. You’ll probably see a few them in the PL soon.

I don't even know what this defensive shape is. Sanchez is like a CB, the inverted full back is basically just a clueless CM. Then you have one CB at RB and another to the left out of position. It's not like the inverted full back system is new to this lot, it shouldn't look this disjointed.

I'm hoping it's just temporary until Cucurella gets back, because I can't see James and especially Gusto playing this role effectively.

As a central midfielder James’ passing range consists of sideways and more sideways.

We had an Italian fella that used to do that.
