Forest look the better side even without wood

I’m not sure. They are also playing really bad. I mean, 3 shots for Brighton and 1 for Forest with 1 minute to go is really poor.

I was taking a look at Brighton's incoming transfers earlier. Turns out they paid Bristol City £20-odd million for Adam Webster back in 2019.

I didn't realise they had been forking out quite so much money for players. I now fully subscribe to @SydneyChelsea 's theory that Brighton are not in fact efficient moneyball upstarts, but are in fact running an unsustainable model propped up single-handedly by Chelsea being managed by morons. You know, on the football side, and the sporting side. Come to think of it, did we ever get a shirt sponsor?

It's Villa vs Palace in the semis.

Rashford vs Eze

could be an interesting one.

Here's hoping City's men go out although think they are tailor made for Forest even if they do progress.

I tipped Bournemouth after 3rd round, 1-0

I hope that Iraola doesn’t go to Spurs. He was one of my favourite Athletic players. I also think that he shouldn’t make a hasty move to other team just yet, young coaches need to learn their trade and he’s doing that very well at Bournemouth. Look what happened to SF.

If we want their manager we better move fast, rumours Tottenham will sack their manager even if they win trophy

Should be a "Sack Race" shoot out for both Fat Ange and our own Pepilini on Thursday.

Two sh*te managers with no plan B and too stubborn to change. But at least Fat Ange isn't trying to be a carbon copy clone of another manager.

That was so sh*t from Bournemouth. They stopped playing completely, allowed City back into the game with little fuss, and just kept hitting it a long. They played nothing like themselves in that 2nd half, and even at full time, they don't look that disappointed. This kind of opportunity likely won't come around again anytime soon, and they are going off like they lost a league game at the end of the season with nothing on the line.

Weird performance, almost like they don't believe they are good enough to be there.

Interesting game in the first on the ball looked like Bournemouth were playing it long from defence turning Citys defence whose CBs were 1v1 and looking suspect.

On the attack City had loads of space down the right though never made it count.

Pep introduces 'Blimey O'Reilly' who brings some speed and trickery down the left and brings City back in and they take the tie.

Lots of professional fouling by both sides the ref chose to largely ignore and funny to see Grealish take a kick as he has always played with shins on show.

Kepa had an interesting game both good and bad.

City showed some fight today and with O'Reilly may yet lift another trophy.

Can't take credit for the theory, it was @Sexyfootball who opened our eyes to just how bad it was. I think the flaw in the "model" is that selling clubs eventually realise they can demand more from middle-men clubs. Brighton famously paid less than £5m for Moises Caicedo, who was earmarked as one of Ecuador's generational talents, yet this was a record price for the Ecuadorian league. Fast-forward to 2022 and IDV charged Chelsea more than triple for their next wonderkid, Kendry Paez.

The Caicedo "flip" looks more and more a fluke rather than some sort of grand master financial plan. Firstly, Brighton were one of the last clubs on the scene to identify Caicedo, as he was tracked by United, Newcastle, Chelsea and Everton since at least 2021 following breakout Copa Sudamericana and NT performances. They lucked out in that respect, that no other club bid for him although they did well to take a chance. Of course he has great success at Brighton, but given the short contract and low wages, it is inevitable that he would move for a nominal fee too a bigger club.

Then, three unexpected things happen to inflate his price into the stratosphere in 2023:

  • Amid interest, Caicedo initially publically states his desire to move (Arsenal were the main contenders at this time) but ends up agreeing a new contract to ensure Brighton get a fee

  • Brighton renege on their 'gentleman's agreement' to let him move, holding out for an 80m informal release clause

  • Chelsea appear to seal the deal for ~80m but then Liverpool come in at the last minute, starting a bidding war between two clubs desperate for a top-level midfielder

9 times out of 10, Caicedo moves to Arsenal for ~20m (still a great profit, but nothing to write home about) in January 2023.

The only times Brighton profited significantly were when a desperate club was involved, and we were that desperate club 3 out of the 4 times

  • Cucurella - Man City had some interest, Chelsea bidding against ourselves

  • Robert Sanchez - Chelsea desperate for a goalkeeper and despite no other clubs interested, pay 20m for a third-choice keeper

  • Caicedo - as above

  • Alexis Mac Allister - Liverpool activated a release clause early, following Mac Allister's WC2022 hype.

And our owners are in love with the Brighton " model"
