Did you watch him last night? Only thing missing was a goal. His control was good in congested and tight areas, his lay off's bringing others into the game were good, he led the line and put considerable pressure on Spurs defence, by 65 minutes 3 of their back four were on cards, he and the team put pressure on Spurs and it worked. Tel me we havent missed a player like that for us since Giroud without mocking yourself. Is delap the finished answer to our prayers, no. But he offered the team something vastly different to Pedro.

I saw his role positively, we won the game, we saw that we could play differently with him. Delap will go on and make a good premiership player with us or for someone else.

Love how you say his physicality on Spence was assault... VAR and the ref saw it very differently and he remained on the pitch so I presume you didnt see the game?

He has 3 goals in 45 games for Chelsea. The goals are always missing with him.

He has ok link up play dropping deep around the middle of the field , literally the only redeemable feature of his game. hardly where you want your striker doing his best work. As I listed earlier he made a dogs dinner of his only shot and killed a promising counter which is where he should be making a difference if he wasn’t useless.

I’d rate his physicality if he wasn’t moronic with how he used it. All he does with it is give away incredibly blatant fouls.

Yep, agree with that. But we dont really have a prolific striker on our books and bar Harlaand, does the league have any prolific strikers?

Joao Pedro is the 4th top goal scorer in the league - despite having to deal with a lack of service from his teammates.

Liam Delap has ONE goal in 27 games for us. It is a statistic that is indefensible at this point.

Ive said Delap's returns are terrible. What I was asking in my post is when was the last time you have watched a chelsea player lead a line and do the classic hold up play/ channel running we saw last night. Jackson does this really badly, but, last night was a classic centre forward game on show and it was effective for us, it helped create the space for others and brought people into the game. Where has this been all season and Pedro doesnt have this in his locker... Speaking of which...

Ancelotti's decision to omit Pedro from Brazils squad kind of backs up my points made on the Pedro thread. Not good enough to lead Brazil's line this summer. Top 4 managers in the modern game, JM, Pep, ZZ and the Don Ancellotti...

Next season, new manager and last nights efforts from the players showed they've let themselves down over teh season. Delap had a good game regardless of the goal, right? or is that not worth pointing out? You dont think Alonso using a striker like Boniface isnt going to make a targetman striker dig in and play better? You saw it last night if you can see past your opinion.

My opinion was that i really liked Liam Delap. My opinion is irrelevant now. One goal in 27 games - for a striker that is literally a fcucking joke.

89 minutes played

0 shots on target

1 shot into row Z

2 forward passes

0 key passes

0 passes in the box

0 dribbles

Total ball progression 6.5m (yes, that is metres)

Total progressive carry distance 27.2m (once again, yes that is metres.)

8 ground duels attempted

2 ground duels won

3 fouls

A truly masterful CF performance, i don't know how every top club isn't interested in such dazzling form. How have we suffered with J.Pedro and his meagre 20+ goals and assists. I am glad Liam has pulled out this stupendous display in the business end of the season when we need him.

Jesus wept.

Liam Delaps performance was better last night, than on previous occasions because he actually touched the ball a few times, which is where the problems start, but he is well below the standard required for Premier league football. His first touch moves the ball 10 yards away and his second touch is a tackle. He cant trap a bag of cement. He is a non scoring striker which isnt a great deal of use to us. I wrote him off in October possibly unfairly but nothing much has changed in his contribution or ability to affect the game positively.

Hes a dead parrot.

All this praise for Delap from the same "fan" that doesn't rate Joao Pedro, amazing stuff...

"Great, scored an overhead goal when the game was lost. Where was he in the previous 90. sorry, not good enough. bang average season no better than Jackson."

Oh dear... grouchy this morning? Glad I share the same opinion as Ancellotti... Pedro isnt good enough to lead Brazils line in a World Cup. And FYI Pedro has scored one more goal than Jackson in his debut season, It Pedro's 6 season in the Prem... I stand by my views on Pedro not being good enough to take us forward, Sorry your opinion is challenged by logic and fact.

Do try and take up the point of Pedro in that game against Forrest. Ive spoken to my mates, one forrest and a number of chelsea fans there who have said exactly the same thing. Great overhead kick but wasnt on the pitch for the 89 other minutes. You werent there and turned down your ticket?

If you dont like what I say, try the block button... It is good you know, I dont have to read that spammer, cant remember his name now, twat face or something and its lovely reading through here.

You didnt watch him last night then.. he was a handful, im not saying he's the answer, I dont think he'll even be here next season, my point is that he has the ability in his game to do well for us as a classic number 9... Giroud wasnt a 20 goal a season striker not for us or Arsenal but was absoultely crucial to the way the team would set up and play. I think that's my point.

Contrary to opinon here, think he had a good game last night. Link and hold up play was good, control was good, ran channels... Exactly what we needed from him all season but we've had to wait for a performance in the final home game. Think Alonso will keep him for performances like last night but needs to add goals.

To the person who said he's the worst striker to play for us, Chris Sutton was so bad at scoring we turned him into a defender because he could head the ball. Delap isnt the worst and wont be the last poor performer.

Are you out of your mind? He was dogsh*t. Link and hold up play was ass, he could barely control the ball.

I don't know how you can go so harsh on Joao Pedro the other day but then say Delap had a good game last night. It's like watching a League 1 trying to play Premier League football.

Our friend from another chelsea forum wrote, and I thought it just summed up the situation perfectly: 😅
"he is a 30M championship striker who's second touch is a tackle"

Would it not be a complete 180? If you did a full 360 you'd be facing the same way.

Sorry, have a good day.

Incorrect Cheesemeister. My analogy was using the internal angles of a hexagon.

  1. Set up the equation: \(720 = (n - 2) \times 180\)

  2. Divide by \(180\): \(4 = n - 2\)

  3. Add \(2\) to both sides: \(n = 6\) [1, 2, 3, 4]

  4. Get rid of Garnacho

Basic geometry really.

Thought he was poor last night. Sat behind the goal MHU and from there had a great view to watch him on and off the ball.

I don’t know what he does in training to be picked. The only thing I can think is he just loses confidence game day or he’s another player just played to keep his price up. The latter doesn’t seem a good idea, would be better on the bench!

You forgot to include the "Garnacho is utter sh*te" constant...but you got to the right answer anyway so we can ignore that.

Ummm.. See past your own opinion and RE-read... I wasnt expecting anything from Delap when we signed, Ive said his returns are shocking, probably wont be here next season. But unlike a lot of people on here - I will hand praise out when it is deserved and yes, his performance was strong against Spurs and made me question where this player has been ALL SEASON. Sorry if you dont like that opinion but he was, turning centre halves, winning aerial balls, running channels. (stuff he's not done all season) We know he can do it but hasnt done it? You call that dogsh*t.

Im harsh on pedro because he costs 60 million, twice as much as Delap or Jackson and has scored 1 (ONE) goal more than Jackson in his first season. If Jackson isnt good enough to all on here, then why is Pedro getting a pass... He cost us twice the amount of money as Jackson for one more goal and he's in his SIXTH season of Premiership football and the league position doesnt lie, we are a worse side with him leading our line. It is all there for us to see... We signed a mid table striker from a mid-table club and you're hoping he becomes world-class. I see a player who in SIX seasons has never hit twenty league goals.. Must be world class... right on...
