Southampton vs Chelsea (PL) Wednesday 4th December 24 19:30 GMT

Need to make quite a few changes IMO and save the main players for Sun away against Spurs.  I'd give Palmer, Neto, Lavia, Jackson and Fofana(likely doubtful anyway) and perhaps even Enzo.     I'd be looking at a majority coming from squad 2 as there is no European games this week.  Southampton are rooted at the bottom although they have shown that they can be competitive.   At the end of the day...we need the 3 points to keep the momentum going no matter who starts.

Head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed after the Premier League win that Fofana is facing up to five weeks on the sidelines. It’s a hamstring problem. These kind of things require at least three, four, five weeks. In this moment, you lose 10 games or 12 games. In the way he was playing, it’s a big loss for us. But we have more players and we’ll try to find solutions.   :sadwalk:

I'm with you on this...Great time to start switching some players around slowly as its not long before knockouts in the ECL too, as well as important PL games starting with spuds next weekend obviously.

Shouldn’t make anymore than 3-4 changes.

Palmer, Lavia, Neto and Sancho should rest for Spurs.

Fair points, no full on conference league rotation but players who are not being used more than once a week should get a rest.

Though I think Palmer could do with the chance of a few goals as a boost before Spurs.

Sanchez

Gusto

Tosin

Colwill

Cucurella

Caicedo

Enzo

Palmer

Nkunku

Felix

Jackson

We lost on our last visit to St Mary's in one of our poorest displays under Tuchel, but our record there overall has been fairly decent. They have a few players suspended too, notably Tyler Dibbling who is a real talent. They gave Liverpool a tough game recently so we need to be on our game.

I just remembered that Maresca can only add 5 players to the ecl squad as "list B".

Some clever managing of game time will be needed once knockouts start.

I wonder which 5 he will pick! Good question for our ECL thread.

No way is Palmer being rested. He is already being rested from the group stages of the Conference League and also sat out the last international break. He is definitely starting.

The PL squad can handle a second 90 mins in one week. It’s just this week with spurs, and end of the month where we have midweek fixtures/holiday fixtures. The youngest team in the league will be ok with an extra 90 mins!

I wouldn’t rotate too much - we must continue this form.

Downes, Harwood-Bellis and Dibling are missing through suspension, Lesly club tied,  and Ramsdale and Lallana through injury. Bednarek and Onuachu coming back from injuries.

Saints could genuinely put a League One CB pairing on the pitch Wednesday.....

Whatever happened to Bella-Kotchap? He looked really good for a little while (even in a dire Southampton team) and now seems to have disappeared. 'Bomb squad'?

Hell no!!! We go in with our strongest 11 and get the job done, then move onto Spurs. We've had the luxury of 2 squads, it's a rare midweek prem schedule, our first team can cope.

Jackson 1 yellow card away from suspension.

Hmm that's a risk. Do we take a chance he misses Spurs?

Mind you, you said Southampton will be using 2 league 1 CBS? Could start Guiu.

Or given Jackson just the first half and tell him to keep his mouth shut.

I think it's a good game to start nkuku in the league. We need jackson against spuds high line

Sanchez

Gusto baders colwill cucu

Caicedo enzo

Madueke palmer felix

 Nkuku

We could let the conference league crew redeem themselves for Newcastle:

Jorgensen

Disasi

Tosin

Badiashile

Veiga

Casadei

KDH

Madueke

Felix

Mudryk

Nkunku

No?

Yep, perfect time to play them. Dibling is a huge miss for them as is Harwood-Bellis. We shouldn't be complacent but we should win with whilst making a few rotations.

Wow. Forgot about him. Seems he has been excluded from the first team set-up. I remember when Southampton beat us 2-1, a couple years ago and he was excellent. He got MOTM too and was a beast. Looked like a future star. Lavia scored in that game also.

I wondered the same thing. Seems he wasn't happy, wanted back to Germany, a deal fell through so he was stuck. Martin says non-selection is nothing personal which means it's something personal.

😉

No way sir. Southampton gave Liverpool a tough game and they have had an extra 2 days rest since they played on Friday and we played on Sunday.

I think 5 players with fresh legs will suffice hence why I brought in Badiashale ,Gusto, felix madueke and Nkuku. Lets not forget that Jackson is a yellow card away from a suspension which will be against Spurs. We need his speed against spuds high line.
