Arsenal can sign him, but they and Newcastle are far apart on the fee. If the gap is not bridge we might swoop in.

Younes says Eghbali and Alonso are already talking to Newcastle ownership about it.

Unsure about Bruno based. Think he looks great in a charged up emotional Newcastle at home - don’t know how well all that transfers. Also unlike us to sign players of this value and age.

Would rather pursue Wharton, or just surprise us all with Bouaddi (although looks like we want a more box to box profile).

Might i suggest James Garner of Everton as possible alternative, perchance 😁

At least it's a sign of blueco mixing it up a bit rather than signing 10 19yr olds every summer

Agreed.

I'm not sure on us spending such an amount on a player of Bruno's age, How many quality years we would get out of him. I'd hope at least 3, that is the length of Alonsos deal and he would add both experience and leadership for Caicedo, perhaps a Scott or Wharton, to learn from.

We do need that for the team for now, and developing forward.

Now if you pair that with getting in John Stones you add a lot of experience to two key areas of the team.

I do believe we would still need a world class keeper to complete a rebuild for Alonso. Perhaps Penders proves to be that, maybe his time at Strasbourg was enough. We will see, Diogo Costa would be a safer bet.

I hope at some point during this moment of reflection they came to the realisation that with the ridiculous money spent they could have made a title winning team.

Look at the current competition Arsenal won the league with Saka being the only attacking player I’d take off them. It’s not like the previous City Liverpool 90 plus pointer seasons. It’s there for the taking.

A few solid singings and we could be in the mix.

I wonder how much Unai Simón would cost? The guy turns up at national tournaments cleans up and disappears back to Bilbao and nobody mentions his name again. Looks comfortable on the ball does a great sweeper keeper and at a nice age that won't impede Penders to much, he doesn't face many shots to see if he's a good shot stopper but has a few medals to his name.

A bit like Victor Valdes. Just so hard to judge him when the team has the ball 90% of the time and so effective at winning it back.

That's for Spain though. Surely it's a different situation at Bilbao? I barely watch La Liga games anymore to make a better judgement.

We have dozens of players who are yet to give us their best years, supposedly.

Having one who's ready to slot in and give us 2-3 years is worth it imo.

Would be a serious signing.

I'll try and be brief to sum up the situation regarding Bruno Guimaraes.

As per Younes Bruno Guimaraes has two main priorities:

1. To leave Newcastle.

2. To join Arsenal.

Arsenal have had a 70mill package deal turned down by Newcastle today. Arsenal have set a maximum current amount they are willing to spend on Bruno, 75mill. Newcastle are demanding a minimum of 85mill.

Arsenal want Bruno to do what Isak did last summer to drive the price down. Newcastle lowered their price by 15mill due to Isaks actions, Arsenal think that would work again, Newcastle Insist it won't.

Eghbali has told Newcastles head people we will pay 85mill for Bruno. Right now Bruno is not willing to join us as he waits for Arsenal. It becomes possible he changes his mind if Arsenal continue to refuse to go near Newcastles price.

Not from Younes this bit but may well be Alonso is key. If he can talk Bruno in to joining us sounds like we will pay what Newcastle want. Our lack of Champions league football is likely an issue for a 29 year old looking to win titles now.

Still think he’s over rated. High energy, combative - works well on tyneside. Think of the yellow cards he’ll get in Chelsea blue with that style. Would rather someone younger and more composed.

A Geordie pal of mine said that Bruno almost single handedly kept them up last season.

He didn't have many nice things to say about quite a few of their players, and I'd get a suspension on here if I repeated the words he used to describe Eddie Howe...

On the other hand, whilst all they have done to date is cack, there is still an element of commercial and ultimately sporting sense to this policy.its been the fact that its been a hard stop and that the signings have been ridiculosly young and inexperienced and over priced for what we're getting, that has riled everyone.

Signing Lacroix outside of this range is a good shift as the player appears to be decent value for the money and will provide a decent return to us when he does eventually move on.

Guimaraes I like. I think he would add great value. But £85m for effectively a 29 year old is a he'll of a lot of dough especially as there is likely to be a significant reduction in resale value.

It shouldn't bother us, it's not our money. Except when we are all pissed off in 3 years time when we can't afford the replacement we want because BGs value has dropped £60m.

For me a slightly younger, equally PL experienced, and slightly cheaper might be preferable. Somebody like, oh I don't know, maybe James Garner.
