Chelsea players you've met

I was in Boscombe today (bournemouth), and spotted Chopper Harris outside the Primark of all places.

My old man just went up to him and asked him if he went to the cup final, but he said he missed it due to a talk somewhere, involving

himself, Tommy Docherty and a comedian.

About six months back, he did a talk at my uncles pub in Radstock (just outside of Bath), and was really good, gutted I missed it, my dad mentioned it,

but I don't think he remembered.

Came across as really quiet though, not his normal, friendly self? So we didn't talk long, and to be fair to him, he probably

gets fed up of strangers coming up to him all the time

Anyway, extremely random place to see him, it seemed he was waiting for his wife or someone.

Anyone else ever had any random sightings like this?

Me and my dad meet Luca Vialli in a Brighton chip shop during the summer after his first season as manager. He was brilliant, a true gent and stayed for ages signing autographs.

Dave Beasant (he was with Wombledon at the time) presented me with a runners up medal in the Brent Cup.

Dennis Wise going into Scribes I think El Tel owned it at the time.

Adrian Mutu at Earls Court driving an Aston Martin a few days I think after he had shot at some coppers in Romania or something like that ? Anyway he saluted me.

Whilst not a Chelsea player , this involves an ex Arsenal player. Many years ago I used to work all round Ladbroke Grove/ Kensal Green area. Anyway working in this gaff and the bloke says to me that this player is always across the road , meeting his special "friend". Course he does says I , anyway finish the job leave the house pull out to the Harrow Road and low and behold who is turning in , bold as brass. Anyway a little while later he left his wife for this special "friend" , and I think has left this special "friend" for another.

I think you know who it is...

I was in Record and Tape Exchange in Notting Hill Gate when Pat Nevin came in. I just froze. Another time Lemmy from Motorhead came in and he had a bodyguard!

Sheva once came into a shoe shop I was working at in Georgetown, Washington DC, with some friends he was visiting during the summer.

Of course the bar stewards in the store never bothered telling me someone famous was upstairs and I had to make do with spotting him head down the street, but I thought it was pretty unlikely considering I'm in the US

I used to get all the Chelsea players' autographs at their Mitcham training ground in the late 60's when I was a lad, and some of them would have a chat even though we were kids. Ron Harris was always very quiet, even then, I think it's just his nature.

I remember Peter Osgood recognising me once, telling me that he'd given me his autograph just the other day - "why do you want another one, are you flogging them at school?" and having a laugh with Charlie Cooke. Made my day - sorry, year.

Same as mate, wish I still had the Autographs from back then but still some great memories, I missed JT by about an hour at my mates Carfront in Mitcham as well but that was only about three years ago.

Not me, but my Stepfather, another true Blues fan. He was filling up with petrol when a blue Ferrari pulled in behind him. He looked at the driver (well, you would, wouldn't you), only to realise that it was Lamps!

Stepdad went over and said hello, apologising because Frank must get attention from the public all the time, to which he got smiles and told it was no problem and so he asked if he might have the main man's autograph for my daughter, a Frankie fanatic. Lamps was lovely about it, waiting patiently for Stepdad to go to the petrol station shop when they both realised that neither had a pen or paper on them.

In his panic to get served and out Stepdad couldn't see any writing paper so bought a copy of the Express with a Chelsea back page headline and photo of Frank for him to sign. My daughter was over the moon and I was not a little envious of her... and even more so of my Stepdad!

Met a few but random was John Phillips. I was best man at mates wedding and the bride said one of her guests would interest me... We chattted for a while he reminisced about the great days. I was a twat and basically blamed him for us being relegated (The Cat was my hero and all others paled in his shadow).

If anyone knows his precise whereabouts please pm me. I need to write a letter of apology. Serious.

MK Blue might remember this, but in the mid 70's a few of the younger Chelsea lads used to drink in the Morden Tavern after training. I remember seeing the likes of Teddy Maybank, Ian Britton and Ray Lewington in there and having a chat - the good old days, when players were mere mortals.

Chopper a few times, always all at Chelsea away games. Ray Wilkins in 1975, Michael Duberry at Wembley and he was an arrogant tosser. But my only real claim to fame was I used to have fairly regular contact, and was on first name terms, with King Kerry for a period in the 80's

Paul Elliott a couple of times, Gavin Peakock, Eddie Newton and Glen Hoddle!

Paul is a really nice guy as was Gavin, both took a few minutes for a chat!

Eddie and Glen was a quick hello!

Same as mate, wish I still had the Autographs from back then but still some great memories, I missed JT by about an hour at my mates Carfront in Mitcham as well but that was only about three years ago.

Same as, same as, lived a couple of minutes walk from Mitcham training ground mostly at the time of the great early 70s team and the 77 promotion side when they were juniors.

Met and had a drink with Ossie once in the Corner Pin by Wimbledon dog track, chatted with Pat Nevin outside the ground once and there was a load of old players in Moscow milling about and socializing, chatted with Colin Pates, Clive Wilson and Garry Stanley.

Eddie Newton at MK Dons training ground when I was delivering the post there.

Kerry Dixon, Ron Harris and Garry Stanley have all been guests at the MK end of season ball as well as Ossie and Hutch's wives and Neil Barnett, but I'll forget the last one..

Didn't realise I'd met that many until I started totting them up.

I forgot about Ray Lewington, him and my cousin were good mates and grew up in the same road in Clapham, played street football with Ray a few times back in the early 70s. Teddy Maybank was from Mitcham wasn't he Steve, along with Patesy and Fillery? Les Briley came from St Helier but never quite made it and ended up a bit of a legend at Millwall and I think Alex Stepney came from there as well.

Back in 1984 on the day that we smashed Leeds 5-0 at home I bumped into Kerry Dixon outside the East stand before the game and he signed my ticket for me.

Me and and mates used to sit in gate 13, and in the bar before the game I got talking to a very proud dad whose son had been born that morning who he had named Kerry.

Being a big soft sentimentalist I gave him my treasured signed ticket to give to his son, Kerry Dixon went on to score a hat trick that day so job well and truly done.

Fast forward to 1992 and by this time I was living in Los Angeles, I had a great lifestyle over there but after being a regular at the Bridge since the mid seventies I really did miss following the blues. Cue 1994 and two weeks before the cup final it all got too much i had to be at Wembley. I sold my car, my tools(I was a wall and floor tiler) I left my woman, I left my dog(Chelsea) and all of my belongings and I flew home with no ticket for the game.

With four days left to go before the final I ended up with five tickets for the game which went to friends for face value. On cup final day outside Wembley I got talking to Chelsea boy who had also recently been living in Los Angeles. Turned out he played in the same league (South Bay League) and drank in the same bar (Caprios in Manhattan beach).

After our conversation I went to join the queue to get in and bumped into my old mate Kerry Dixon! I told him about our last meeting and he very kindly signed my ticket, happy days again (well up until 4.45 pm it was). As I walked away from Wembley in the pouring rain I was beginning to wonder had i done the right thing by coming home!!

The night itself turned out to be one of the best piss ups I have ever had, and the support and love for Chelsea that night made me realise that yes I had done the right thing.

Fast forward to 1997, and outside Wembley before the game I bumped into my old mate from Los Angeles!! What are the chances of that!! We had a good chat and then I went to join the queue to get in, I think you can guess what's coming! Yes it was my now very good friend King Kerry himself!! We had chat again but this time no pen to sign ticket but never mind. What a day, what a f**king day that was god bless you Chelsea now i know coming home was the right thing to do.

1998 and I am now sitting in a bar in Stockholm in the afternoon before the final, a bloke sits down next to me i turn around and shake hands with my old mate from Los Angeles!! now I know that we are going home with the cup winners cup God bless you Franco God bless you. Didn't get to speak to Kerry before that one but did bump into my hero Ossie at the airport.

Happy days my friends just happy happy days.

Talking of Teddy Maybank...My good pal at the time, Steve ballard, got me working on a building site putting up false ceilings....A bloke on site used to go on about his son day after day. How good he was..Who he played for and how good he would become..We thought he was just talk untill we sussed who he was..Ted maybanks old man

I forgot about Ray Lewington, him and my cousin were good mates and grew up in the same road in Clapham, played street football with Ray a few times back in the early 70s. Les Briley came from St Helier but never quite made it and ended up a bit of a legend at Millwall and I think Alex Stepney came from there as well.

Pretty sure Fillery was a Mitcham boy, think Pates was from either Mitcham or Carshalton, but I'm not sure about Maybank.

Alex Stepney was born in Mitcham, and played for Tooting & Mitcham before signing for Millwall. He only played once for Chelsea before going to Man.Utd.

Forgot another one, friend to the stars or what, played veterans football two or three times with Steve Finnieston shortly before the Chelsea vets team really took off, 92 or 93 ish, and spent a pleasant evening chatting Chelsea with him and sinking a few with him in the Farnham Town clubhouse, really nice bloke as well.

In July 2004 me Julie & I stayed quite by chance in the same hotel as the touring Chelsea team up in Seattle.

Being the trainspotter that I am I met and talked to nearly every single player that I encountered on the way out to the bus for training on Friday the day before the match and again on Sunday morning when they were all checking out. My old lady was in heaven as she had a big crush on JT back then, the boys were fantastic posed for photos with us. I also bumped into Jose on my way back in the hotel late Friday night and had a little chat and he graciously let me have a photo taken sitting next to him. Now in the USA its impossible to get near the squad, I was in the right place at the right time.

2 years later at the UCLA training camp I got a pass in and got SFL Joe Cole & Jose to sign the photos I had from Seattle - right result.

None. I have some autographs though from when I was a kid and I think a friend of my dad was doing some work in or around club.

The ones I have are (roughly): Di Matteo, Wise, Hughes, Vialli, Petrescu, Zola..and 1 or 2 more.
