Last Movie You Watched

Re watched Guardians of the Galaxy and X-men days if future past.

The comic book genre just goes from strength to strength and they are consistently enjoyable and fun to watch.

Unable to sleep last night, for a variety of reasons which are not relevant here, I decided to get up and watch a DVD my niece sent me for my birthday.

The Railway Man - Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman - is a film about the experiences of Eric Lomax, an Allied prisoner who was at the fall of Singapore and forced to work on the Thai-Burma railway.  It is based on the book by Eric Lomax about his experiences both before and after the war.  I don't want to say too much because it would be a shame to give away the plot.

It goes backwards and forwards from the present to the past, but not really in the traditional "flashback" way.  there are times when you feel you are in the present and the past simultaneously.

Parts of it make grim watching, but I found it excellent.  Jeremy Irvine who plays the young Lomax puts in an excellent performance, as does Colin Firth.  I don;t want to say anymore because you should watch it for yourselves.

I eventually got to bed at six in the morning.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

8/10. Emotionally gratifying, if a little light on action. But superbly realised and directed; the best will come in the Part 2, which will be wall-to-wall action.

Philip Seymour Hoffman very engaging. So sad to know that he isn't on this earth anymore.

God Bless America - great satirical black comedy from Bobcat Goldthwait (aka Zed from the Police Academy movies) about a terminally ill guy who has had enough of our shallow, mean, celebrity obsessed society and decides to do something about it by going on a killing spree. He has nothing to lose after all. The tagline is "Taking out the trash, one jerk at a time", which is a pretty good summary of what it's about. It reminded me a lot of Falling Down or Natural Born Killers, only much funnier.

If you've ever been in a cinema and found yourself fantasising about massacring the selfish w**kers who won't stop talking and giggling and leave their bloody phones alone then this film was made for you. It's worth watching for the TV segments satirising American (Pop) Idol, My Super Sweet 16, etc. alone.

I watched the new Teenage mutant ninja turtles film. It is the worst remake that I have ever seen.

Nooooo really? I wanted to go see that but didn't get the chance, gutted.

Mockingjay Part 1 soon sweetie!

It was so bad Gem! The story was all wrong and it just wasnt entertaining.

Yes, I am hoping to see it soon. I have heard there isnt much action in this one thought. All story and saving the action to part 2.

TMNT was alright.... Didn't really understand the giant robot Shredder... Kind of defeats the point of the character.

Megan Fox can't act.

There was some good action scenes in the film though like the one on the snowy mountain (that seems to be the longest mountain slop ever).

I refuse to watch it. Loved the cartoon and the first movie.

Michael Bay has butchered it, I hate his films.

He's only a producer, not the director.

But it is rather Bay-esque.... I only ever watched the first Transformers film and thought it was massive shower of sh*t and so didn't bother with the others.

You've got to love a bit of Bad Boys though.

How dare you! Have you not seen Bad Boys 2? Probably the greatest film ever made/he's ever made

Saw Calvary last night, I was expecting more of a comedy (probably because the cast includes comedians like Dylan Moran and Chris O'Dowd) but this turned out to be a very dark drama with a just a few amusing moments. The story is about a priest in rural Ireland who receives a death threat during confession one day from a man who was sexually abused by the church as a kid. The justification the man gives for targeting the priest is that the priest is completely innocent, just like he was when he was first abused. The priest struggles with how to best respond to the threat and in the mean time continues to fulfill his priestly responsibilities (not easy when the parishioners seem to be a largely cynical and amoral bunch). It's an interesting film, quite slow moving so not good for people with short attention spans, but is worth watching and sticks in the mind for a while afterwards.

Fury, a day in the life of a WW2 American tank crew. Pretty intense and brutal, lots of action and a stark reminder that war is a serious business for those at the sharp end. Felt a bit claustrophobic with some of the interior tank scenes (bit like Das Boot for those who remember that story) giving you some sense of what it must of been like roaming the battlefields in a tank lacking in decent protection compared with their opponenets. 8/10 from me.

Skyfall

I know it's been out for a while, but I like Daniel Craig & think he is a good Bond. Also I love to see Javier Bardem playing in a villainous role. Remember him in 'No Country for Old Men'? He seems to have that mentality of being ruthless.

Has anybody seen Nightcrawler? I'm thinking of seeing it tomorrow, after hearing rave reviews about it.

Wanted to watch that also, might go tomorrow night, looks good.

I'm a massive Bond fan. I have over 1500 posts on a James Bond forum. So happy to hear the name of the new film is SPECTRE. Harks back to the James Bond films of old, before the old McLory legal troubles bullsh*t.

Cast is top notch, Christoph Waltz in particular. And Andrew Scott aka Moriarty; wow! Can't wait.

Do you like Daniel Craig as Bond? I think he is cool enough. I am hyped about Spectre as well. Should be a blast.

Duh duh duh duhhhhh, duh duh duh, duh duh duh, duh duh doooooh

Love a bit of Bond myself. Seen them all before, but was curious if there was one I hadn't..... so I watched them all in chronological order over 5 or 6 months last year.

If we are going back to a little classic style (which I really hope we do), hopefully Craig lightens up just a smidgen, has a few funny one liners and is just a little more like Mr Connery.

The Aston Martin DB5 turning up in Skyfall had be grinning like an idiot, one of the best Bond films IMO and certainly the best for a long time.

Connery is still Bond for me but I really enjoyed Skyfall so I am excited for the new one especially as Waltz is in it.
