January 5, 201511 yr Yes that got good reviews BD, I forgot about that one, read a few that said it was his best film in well over a decade and that he 'was back' to his best.
January 5, 201511 yr Wait till we see Ben Affleck as Batman before we say Man of Steel was bad....... Only just seen this. I have faith in the Bat-fleck © He's probably the first actor that will look like how Bruce Wayne should look, big barrel chested guy. Everyone else, Bale included looked quite small. He looks decent in the suit too which is heavily influeced by Frank Miller's graphic novel The Dark Knight returns and the teaser shown at Comic Con alludes to a story line from that comic too. I'm a massive Batman fan and I'm not too worried about it to be honest. There's a hell of a lot of respect for the source material now days and I don't think we will see a car crash of a Batman that was George Clooney's Batman & Robin.
January 5, 201511 yr Is there another Batman film in the offing then? Batman vs Superman is slated for a summer release in 2016. It's sort of the sequel to the Man of Steel movie but also sets up a Justice League movie too (DC comics equivalent of the Avengers). It's probably going to be the highest grossing film in history.
January 6, 201511 yr Just saw the Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies. Disappointing finish to the series, and that memory of Legolas defying gravity for 30 seconds is going to haunt me for the rest of my life!
January 7, 201511 yr Saw Captain America 2.... Great action, Awful plot 4/10 Say Waaaaaaah! Winter Soldier was awesome sauce, easily one of the best Marvel films to date... Had a real 70's/780's spy thriller vibe to it and moved away from the more formulaic plot of the other Marvel films. Really set the wheels in motion for phase 3 of the Marvel films too.
January 7, 201511 yr Just saw the Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies. Disappointing finish to the series, and that memory of Legolas defying gravity for 30 seconds is going to haunt me for the rest of my life! Enjoyed the film overall but that scene was horrendous. Defied the laws of physics - there was no force pushing up against him when he stepped on one of the blocks but it somehow didn't fall!

Defied the laws of physics - there was no force pushing up against him when he stepped on one of the blocks but it somehow didn't fall!Ah, I know what scene you're talking about. Went to see that film over the weekend that section left me baffled. Somebody mentioned Edge of Tomorrow. If you can look past the fact that Tom Cruise is in it then you'll enjoy it. The film is quite funny in parts. Edited January 7, 201511 yr by Huttsey

Defied the laws of physics - there was no force pushing up against him when he stepped on one of the blocks but it somehow didn't fall! He's an elf! They're naturally light on their feet. I don't know if you remember the scene from Fellowship of the Ring, where they take the path through snowy mountains on their way to Mordor. The whole fellowship are almost chest deep, wading through the snow with difficulty, whereas Legolas is walking on top of it. It's in the book too: 'Slowly they moved off, and were soon toiling heavily. In places the snow was breast-high, and often Boromir seemed to be swimming or burrowing with his great arms rather than walking. Legolas watched them for a while with a smile upon his lips, and then he turned to the others. "The strongest must seek a way, say you? But I say: let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf or over snow-an Elf." ' So in terms of the Tolkien universe, it's completely feasible.

There's being light footed and then there's what happened in the film which was something else entirely!
January 7, 201511 yr There's being light footed and then there's what happened in the film which was something else entirely! I will disagree with you, since I'm a bit of a Tolkien geek!
January 7, 201511 yr I will disagree with you, since I'm a bit of a Tolkien geek! Me too! We'll have to agree to disagree.
January 9, 201511 yr Tonight I saw a wonderfully dark comedy called In Bruges. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. Have you seen it, Youlots? Or you, Maksimov?
January 9, 201511 yr Tonight I saw a wonderfully dark comedy called In Bruges. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. It's a f**king fairytaile.
January 9, 201511 yr Today I decided I need to escape from the world so I took the day off work and went to see Birdman at the cinema. I didn't know much about it except that it's the new film from Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 Grams, Amores Perros, two films I loved) so I was expecting it to be good, but f**k me this is brilliant. Best film of 2015 for sure. If Iñárritu and Michael Keaton don't get nominated for the best director and actor Oscars then I'll be amazed. The acting is superb, the cinematography is jaw dropping (I want to see it again so I can try and figure out how they got some of the shots), the music, even the opening credits were a joy to watch.

January 9, 201511 yr Tonight I saw a wonderfully dark comedy called In Bruges. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. Have you seen it, Youlots? Or you, Maksimov? Great film. Probably Farrell's best work on camera, Fiennes is hilarious (why doesn't he get more comedic roles?) and Gleeson assured as ever. What I love about both of the McDonagh brothers is that they don't mince about - right from the off they establish the tension and then just let it roll. Have you seen Calvary yet moi? If not, you must, straight away. Anyway, the script of In Bruges is superb with so many great interchanges such as this: Ken: [looking at a surreal Bosch painting] It's Judgment Day, you know? Ray: No. What's that then? Ken: Well, it's, you know, the final day on Earth, when mankind will be judged for the crimes they've committed and that. Ray: Oh. And see who gets into heaven and who gets into hell and all that. Ken: Yeah. And what's the other place? Ray: Purgatory. Ken: Purgatory... what's that? Ray: Purgatory's kind of like the in-betweeny one. You weren't really sh*t, but you weren't all that great either. Like Tottenham. [pause] Do you believe in all that stuff, Ken? Ken: About Tottenham? Edited January 9, 201511 yr by youlots
January 10, 201511 yr I will get myself the DVD of Calvary just as soon as I get home from my travels.
January 10, 201511 yr I'm posting this here rather than starting a 'Film Trailers' thread. If a trailer shows some of a film's most entertaining parts, 'Mortdecai' with Johnny Depp is going to be awful. There are two decent gags in both versions of the trailer I've seen and the Depp character seems annoying, but not amusingly so. Has anyone else seen the trailer? In the #1 2015 trailer, you can hear where, on the soundtrack, they've added a word into an already filmed sentence. It's shoddily done and funnier than the trailer itself... It sounds like the original line was 'Three months ago a Spanish museum sent a Goya to be cleaned' but, for the trailer, the word 'painting' has been added after -'Goya'. A change probably based on test screen audiences wondering what a Goya was? Mortdecai Official Trailer #1 (2015) - Johnny Dep…: Edited January 10, 201511 yr by Spudulike
January 10, 201511 yr The Imitation Game, really, really well-written. I'm finally beginning to understand the inordinate hype about Benedict Cumberbatch. Keira Knightley was stunning.
January 10, 201511 yr the 3rd hobbit film. was okay, but by the latter parts it was getting tedious and i lost interest and just wanted it to finish.
