I discovered a youtube channel called Cercle. It's amazing, they make really impressive venues with some interesting DJ's out there, it's really cool IMHO check it out:

The album 'Raintown' from 'Deacon Blue'.

Haven't heard it in ages and decided to put that right.

Incidentally the large crane in the picture (taken in Glasgow in late 1950s) is very close to where The Hydro and SECC are now.

Then this area where they are now was docklands.

Today marks the sixth anniversary of the death of Margaret Thatcher, the wicked witch of Westminster. In order to mark the occasion, I present a brief musical tribute.

Kicking off with The Beat, fronted by the late, great Ranking Roger, who himself passed away just the other day:

Sadly the Ghoul of Grantham failed to heed the Beat's sage advice, but instead waged war in order to boost her popularity. And so here I present what is arguably UB40's finest moment:

Slowing things down, ending this "tribute" with Elvis Costello - "when they finally put you in your grave, I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down":

Anyone who's a fan of Arctic Monkey's earlier stuff would recommend giving The Reyton's a listen. Great little band.

Cheers @RIP Mourinho - will give them a try. Loved the early Arctic's stuff but their recent efforts just don't do it for me (bar the odd track). They've got too sophisticated and clever for their own good!

Couldn't agree more, wasn't a massive fan of AM or Tranquility base. The Reyton's very much remind me of Arctic Monkey's first two albums, very gritty and growing up in Sheffield i imagine they took some inspiration from them!

A lot of good bands coming out of Scotland at the minute too. If you're into that kind of music i'd give The Snuts, Shambolics and Callow Youth a listen too.

Listened to a bit of The Reyton's this morning on your reccomendation. Slice of Lime sounds as though it could be a track from Whatever People Say I am. Disagree about AM though. I thought that was one of their best albums! Agree on tranquility base though, that was very underwhelming

Good little band aren't they, think they're touring at the moment if i'm not mistaken! TBF, i don't mind AM (a lot better than tranquility base), i just felt they were ditching their roots to break the American market with that album. Still got some bangers on it like Arabella.

Anyone into the kind of music talked about above i'll do some selfless advertisement. Feel free to go listen to my mates band, for some reason their songs are split between two separate artist accounts on Spotifty but the below links should take you to each one:

Libertines-esque

Have been to see Glenn Tilbrook a couple of times in the last few months. He always seems to be touring, either with Squeeze or solo. The other week he played in a converted chapel about two miles from my house. The place was packed out and it was a brilliant atmosphere. In the bar after I got chatting to some blokes who were totally blown away by his guitar playing, which was no surprise to me, but I really think he's massively underrated. He's known for his superb singing and songwriting, but deserves to be revered for his talent on the guitar. Here's an oldish clip that's well worth watching, as is the whole of this gig:

And another cover which has earned him under 700 views in six years:

Silver Apples, a drummer and a guy with a bunch of oscillators, pedals, and wiring all stuck in a plywood frame. This is from about 1968 or there abouts.  It's a long story; the band went nowhere, but the music was already well into the future. There is an album 'Garden' which can be found on youtube. Enjoy.
