Cech Injury Update

Featured Replies

We have four important home games in a row which are going to shape our season and i wouldve really liked him in there but we cant complain - it couldve been so much worse. I suspect he wont make the Inter return but should be ok for Utd away.

Hillario is ok. I cant think of a better second choice keeper in the league. We just better pray he stays fit because if he doesnt we are f**ked with a capital Turnbull.

This is why I would have liked us to go in for the fella who just left Pompey

Thats good news, I thought that was the end of his season.

I agree with bjd though about Hilario, hes been pretty solid near on everytime hes been asked to step in.

Funny how its not just our older players picking up injuries, for the last two or three seasons we seem to have had injuries to players that either look like nothing or happen in training or even the warm up.

Didn't we have concerns about the fitness training? obviously wasn't that as its still happening.

I thought he would be out for longer, so on the face of it i'm quite pleased.

Agree with bjd and Chippy that Hilario does not let us down when called upon

Hilario is a good keeper when called on (e.g. against Barca and Liverpool), I'm not sure if he has the consistency to play 4-5 decent games on a trot. Against Liverpool. the defence ( especially JT) did an amazing job on Torress and Gerrard, I remember they only had 2-3 shots on goal. The same kind of 'proection' is required this weekend against City.

A month or so back I wouldn't have been that concerned at Hilario coming in for Cech, however Cech

seemed to be getting back to his best and will be a real lost.

Hilario aint too bad though and i'm sure he won't let us down

Totally Agree Goose, the games are important that's for sure, but the blow to Cech's confidence is a real blow. He had recently put in a couple of Man of the Match performances, and was starting to comand his area well. I fear that if he comes back in for the Utd game, they'll just lob long balls in and test him in the 6 yard box

latest news ive heard is its UPTO a month and could be as soon as 2 weeks if all goes well. as bjd said, Hillario isnt too bad a back up, better than most teams have so it shouldnt be too big a problem.

Good thing is Adebayor is suspended. That would mean there is no one to whom they could give high balls into the box where I think Hilario is most vulnerable. His shot stopping is pretty good. Anywho the defense needs to be start producing the goods. If we defend the way we've been for last few games, there wont be much Hilario, or any other keeper for that matter, could do about it.

Harry Redknapp?

Nope he meant Aasmir Begovic, Hilario si good but a better back up is essential for the coming season. Hilario is not getting younger.

Although Hilario needs to work on those kicks, in the past, he has done well between the sticks when called upon (and had some great saves in big games) so not too bad for a second keeper.

He is no Cech, but for a few weeks, we should be ok. Plus getting more help from the four in front of you is always a good thing.

I don't have many worries about Hilario. He has always done pretty well for us when called upon. It's not as if Cech has been flawless this season.

Turnbull is a strange one. I've watched him in the reserves a few times and he has been awful. But when he has come on for the first team he has looked pretty solid.

The main problem will just be the amount of changes that we keep having in the back four. It doesn't help one little bit. We need, as far as possible, to settle on a back four and stick with it week in week out.
