The quote of a genius ......

Bizarrely, Mourinho claimed the key to beating Barcelona was relinquishing possession at the Nou Camp.

"We didn't want the ball because when Barcelona press and win the ball back, we lose our position - I never want to lose position on the pitch so I didn't want us to have the ball, we gave it away," he said.

"I told my players that we could let the ball help us win and that we had to be compact, closing spaces," he added.

Jose, were you dissapointed with Barcalona turning on the sprinklers while your players celebrated at the end?

'No! My players sweated blood out there, it helpded wash the blood away''

He's surely Brian Clough reincarnated. A big mouth with a team that grinds out results. Good for the fans, but the world at large wants sexy football. No regrets at his leaving

You can poke sexy football up your arse if it means a lack of spirit, determination, and fight, ala Barca and Arsenal

Do they? you asked them all then? If i had to watch Arsenals tippy tappy inefective against a decent defence football all the time i would be frustrated beyond belief.

I guess as in everything it's all about having the right balance.

No use being like Arsenal and playing lovely football 80% of the time but bottling it bthe other 20% and ending up with f**k all.

Equally, I wouldn't want to sit and watch Inter play like they did last night week in week out (I know they don't play like that ALL the time).

As I've said elsewhere, if Iniesta hadn't been missing from both legs, I'm certain he would have made the difference and Barca would have gone through and Jose would now be making his excuses, but hey ho that's football.

But they still had Xavi, and the little fella who terrorised Arsenal with a hatrick!...and their first choice centre forward back.

Nothing is certain in football Nibs.

Inter played just about the same as we did against Barca last year. At the Camp Nou we defended for our lives and at home we outplayed them. The only real difference was that Inter got the rub of the green and we most certainly didn't.

Would Iniesta have made the difference? Maybe, maybe not. One thing is for sure, Messi didn't make the difference.

Inter didn't play that defensively in the first game and I think they wouldn't have done it as much last night if they hadn't been one man down for like an hour or so.

With only ten players they did what they had to do to make it through to the final.

When will Jose be tempted into the international scene ? I reckon he could take up the Poutugal job in 2-3 years time, just in time for the WC in Brasil 2014. Maybe he will be tempted to go to Madrid in between ?

Just for a change Jose done everything exactly right to ensure that his side got the result that they needed and there's not an Inter fan out there that is moaning about boring football. Well done again JM I'm bloody delighted for you!

same here !! very happy for Jose and the other ex chelsea backroom boys . Hope they win it now !

Have to laugh at Le Arse fans at work with comments like "killing the game " , " it was boring" , " not how football should be played " all shut up when you ask who is in the final then ????????

Oh, and what was that first leg like then? I seem to remember Inter playing them off the park, cutting through them like a hot knife through butter on the counter.

TBB is right: when/if Inter's name are on the trophy I doubt anyone will remember that ther were bored during the second leg. He showed the world how to beat an "unbeatable" side. The man is an absolute legend, period. It always astounds me that people wanna talk about sexy football as if its more important than winning.

He also said "I've played Barca 10 times and this is the 4th time I've had a man sent off against them".

That is just plain a stupid quote. "Duh, I don't want to play any offense, so that I can concentrate on our defence."

Come on, find a real good quote by Jose, and not that idiotic one.

I wish the players wouldn't believe in his tactics quite so much...it took Malouda two years to forget that one ::ChELSeAFaN::

When one of your players is sent off in a CL semi-final in a crowded Camp Nou facing a great team like Barca you don't consider attacking but concentrate on defensive football. The result vindicated Mourinho's tactics!

I disagree, it's a great quote and he's one of the only managers in the world brave enough to actually use such a tactic, let alone admit to it!

Would Iniesta have made the difference? Maybe, maybe not. One thing is for sure, Messi didn't make the difference.

I was surprised Guardiola didn't use the space, with Inter one man down, and apply more pressure from the wings. Barca missed Iniesta who is much more willing to run at the defence than Xavi. It was also surprising to see Messi play the Iniesta role for much of the second half as it left Borjan alone up front. It was only when Guardiola pushed Pique up front that Barca looked really dangerous.

Mourinho's tactics were to sit deep, use strict zonal marking, not press high up the pitch and only pressure Barca when they were within about 20 yards of the goal. Not an easy task against a team like Barca. I also thought Mourinho used the offside trap quite effectively. It required a well disciplined defence and a brilliant tactician to pull it off.

A tip of the hat to Mourinho and his defensive unit!
