Capello hasn't named Joe in the starting eleven for the game against Japan. it is largely an experimental side however all the Chelsea players who were rested against Mexico are in it with the exception of Joe.

My thoughts are that Capello has decided Johnson is his 'surprise flair' player and that Joe will be missing the boat. It could be that his Chelsea and England career are coming to an end at the same time.

I expect he will get the 2nd 45 minutes but its not looking good for Joey is it. If Walcott goes ahead of him then Capello is an idiot.

The fact that Walcott is anywhere near the 30 man squad shows that Capello is an idiot.

If Joey doesn't play tonight then I think we can count him out of the WC for sure. Too bad, I think he can be good for England. Not only because he has some good skills, but he works really hard as well and that can be very useful.

I cant believe that walcott is pretty much a certainty to go to the world cup, he is USELESS.

His first touch is more like a ten yard pass, he always gives time to the other team to get players back and in position before he goes at the full back. And every single time he loses the ball he has gone down pathetically trying to claim he been fould. Absolute waste of f**king space.

Walcott over Cole? Is this football or the 100m dash? Also, I'm daring to say it, but why is Rooney untouchable? I've not seen him work magic for England in a while now, and so far in this game all I've seen is one incredible pass surrounded by incidents where he was just dispossessed effortlessly. On the whole another drowsy performance so far, spare some individual flashes of genius.

I just read the Fail, and it said Lamps missed another penalty :P

He's got the yipps

poor performance but I'm not too bothered by it.

these games were experimental... looking for a plan b. what I take from them is that talk of gerrard not starting is silly (he's one of our six genuinely strong players) and that joe should probably make the trip.

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss Walcott. The guy has pace to burn and Beckham is working with him on his crossing. Let's not forget Walcott's excellent hat trick against Croatia in the qualifying rounds of the World Cup. Capello realises he's got great touch and good ball control. In my opinion, Walcott has got potential and can learn from one of the most experienced and respected managers in the game in Capello.

Joe should be safe. He had a good 45 mins.

Thought the Lampard/Huddlestone pairing was shocking and reminded me of Lampard playing with Mikel. So one paced!

Id say the 7 to miss out will be Parker, Dawson, Bent, A Johnson, SWP, Warnock and Huddlestone.

I thought Johnson may have made a late run for it but his exclusion today speaks volumes.

I have a feeling Johnson's exclusion is becase Capello has decided to take him and doesn't feel he needs another look at him. He was one of the brighter sparks in the Mexico game.

Surely a Plan A that works should take priority?

He only played about 5 mins though Loz! Im not sure if its just that little bit too late for him.

However good he may have looked in training and for City in the last third of the season surely you cannot take a player to a World Cup based on 5 mins play ?

But surely playing experimental games one match before the world cup is ridiculous. We should have had the last 2 games with our first choice team out, playing in preperation of the first game at the world cup. Instead we have this muppet trying out new formations and new combinations, smacks of desperation to me. Or idiocy.

I thought he had played quite a bit more than that - shows how much attention I was paying! Given that then I would agree his chances look remote.

The game was dead boring, but it was probably the perfect game for Capello, they won again, no injuries to any players, no expectations built up (which would of happened had we thrashed Japan), but best of all, lady luck looks to be on our side.
