Liverpool won`t be a threat in the new season. The two Manchester teams will be.

Liverpool will play in CL and their team lacks too much quality, that they can`t for just 1 transfer window, and also depth.

They have great result against top team and i`m pretty sure in the new season they won`t have the same luck/success against top teams.

He scored 19 for Roma maybe we should hold on to players a bit longer on loan we seemed to have kept Moses an age

If only someone had told this to Mourinho a couple of years back.

I'm thinking maybe that's why Antonio was made head coach not manager, club maybe sick of scouting talent for a new manager to come in and sell them all Lukaku and kdb alone are worth about 130 million in today's market, we could have kept both a year or two longer but I suppose if players are pushing to be sold not loaned you are limited

Rarely do we get to know the breakdown of the financial terms of the loan deals but to suggest that the policy is just about getting a fee down the line is far from the whole story quite often on top of either their full wage or part off there is also a fee which in the case of many players is their amortised value. All monies received in this respect appear in the player trading account. In other words transfer fees received.

I am not quite sure those running the club would quite as easily dismiss the odd million or two coming into the coffers & I suspect they would argue that in relation to the Oscar transfer they did indeed squeeze that extra £5 million out of the buying club . I suspect also they feel that the whole loan player project  enables the club to test players in a competitive environment and yes many won't make the grade but some will . How else can they be tested in truly competitive matches?

The  project is not just self financing it also forms an important and welcomed additional income stream

Its important to remember that players contracted to Chelsea are paid, in accordance with FA rules though Chelseas payroll. That means even though say Tammy was on loan at Bristol City all of his wages are paid by Chelsea. One of the benefits with that is with little impact you can sell a player or two on from the loan army releasing their wages and should there ever be any FFP issues in terms of the overall wage growth which is limited to £7 million per annum the club have room to manoeuvre should the need arise.

Another important consideration is that all the costs of the academy are discounted for FFP purposes.

In accounting terms for say Atsu we paid £3.5  million for him in 2013 on a 5 year contract. In 2017 his amortised value ( a players value decreases over the period of his contract) would be £700k so selling him for £6.5 million is actually a profit of £5.8 million.

We have some very clever cookies  working at Chelsea. When everyone was suggesting we would fail FFP we didn't that wasn't luck it was because they know the numbers, know how to work their way around rules and regulations and as that famous advert says " every little helps"

Great post.

Just one thing. Some of the costs of the academy are excluded from FFP accounting, not 'all' of them.

I've seen quite a few people linking us with Leonardo Bonucci, apparently keen on a move. He's a great defender, but he's 30 years old, we'd possibly get two good years out of him at the most, depends on the fee.

He's an Italian defender. Add 4 years onto that 2. Barzagli is 36 and he's still a top 10 CB in the world. I'd take Bonucci here in a heartbeat, no questions asked.

Bonucci and van Dijk

Italians age like a fine wine, they only get better with time. Especially in the defensive and GK department

Good points on Italian players, in terms of prolonging your career, Gianfranco Zola springs to mind, he wasn't too shabby in his mid 30's. Bonucci is a quality player, it would be a good signing.

Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Leicester City’s wantaway winger Riyad Mahrez as head coach Antonio Conte plots how to spring another surprise on the Premier League and provide greater cover for Eden Hazard who will miss the start of next season.

Juventus left-back Alex Sandro is another man on Chelsea’s wanted list, as Conte attempts to give himself the option of swapping between a back three and a back four. Conte masterminded Chelsea’s title success by switching to a back three, but it is understood the Italian is now working on how he can change formation and catch opponents out again if need be.

Although Conte is likely to start next season with his successful back three, the 47 year-old is still keen to build a squad that could switch to his favourite 4-2-4 and swap between different systems during games. That is why Conte was already considering signing a new wide man before Hazard broke his ankle and was forced to undergo surgery, with the forward’s recovery time set at three months.

Sandro, who is valued at £45 million by Juventus, can play as a left-back or a left wing-back which would significantly boost Conte’s options.

Chelsea are among the queue of clubs to have shown an interest in Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez, but the declaration of Mahrez that he wants to leave Leicester has also been noted by the Blues. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted his interest in Mahrez and Chelsea are now watching developments regarding the 26-year-old Algerian.

Mahrez favours staying in the Premier League and is understood to be keen on a move to a London club. He was last month caught on camera calling Chelsea “an incredible club. A real club.”

Leicester have initially valued Mahrez at £50 million, which neither Arsenal nor Chelsea are likely to pay. The player believes he has a verbal agreement with the Foxes that he can move to a Champions League club this summer and his determination to go is likely to bring the price down as the transfer window goes on.

Other than placing Mahrez among a list of wide men they could potentially move for, Chelsea are preparing to formalise their intention to re-sign striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton. Lukaku’s arrival could pave the way for Michy Batshuayi to leave Chelsea either on loan or permanently and the Belgian has insisted he cannot spend another season on the substitutes’ bench.

Monaco and West Ham United are interested in signing Batshuayi, who started only one Premier League game for Chelsea last season after joining from Marseille for £33m, but did score the vital goal against West Bromwich Albion that clinched the title.

Asked, while on international duty with Belgium, whether he could accept another season of sitting on the bench, 23-year-old Batshuayi replied: “No, no, no. Everyone knows that I have to play more, that I have to score goals. There’s a World Cup coming up next year. I want to be ready for the World Cup.”

Batshuayi, however, stressed that it will ultimately be Chelsea who decide what happens to him. “I’m not going to ask anything,” said Batshuayi. “I’m going to listen to what they are saying. They are the boss, not me. And afterwards I’ll discuss it with my agent and the club. Amicably, as friends of course.

“A loan? That’s not up to me. That’s up to them (Chelsea). They take the decisions, not me.”

Batshuayi’s future may ultimately be decided on whether or not Chelsea land Romelu Lukaku, who he has been training with this week, and what happens to Diego Costa. Asked whether he and Lukaku could play up front together for Chelsea, Batshuayi laughed and answered: “That’s something I don’t know. That’s something you have to ask Chelsea, not me.”

And on Costa, who is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid, China and AC Milan, he added: “Diego is a top player, who has played in top teams and has scored a lot of goals at the highest level. I’m still young. Voilà. I’ve learned a lot from him.”

Despite his lack of starts, Batshuayi believes he has learned a lot from his first season at Chelsea and has remained positive. “I have lived difficult moments, but it’s in times like those that you learn the most,” said Batshuayi. “Certainly when you’re surrounded by top class players, like Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard, all of them, you only can make progress in a situation like that.

“I haven’t played a lot, you know, but I managed to scored one of the most important goals. It gave me a boost. Good for me, good for the team.”

Chelsea will offer £48m plus midfielder Nemanja Matic, 28, to sign 30-year-old Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci. (Sun)

Matic could easily fetch 30m (that's not much), so puts Bonucci's valuation at around 70-80 millions. outrageous

Swap deals never happen. Why folk actually think it's a possibility is beyond me

I mean you don't even need to look outside the particular player mentioned, matic was a makeweight for luiz with benifica, eto to inter for zlatan, cash plus Gillespie for Andy cole, it certainly happens, it's not the norm but to say they never happen isn't correct.
