Definetly shouldn't. 11 is a common number, and a number that usually is given to a key player. If they did, then they will need to retire 8 for Lampard and 26 for Terry. There won't be any numbers left...

Theres an argument for both sides of the coin, however I dont want it to go to a squad player, should go to someone who will be around and making an impact

I don't know, I think there could be younger players coming through who will be keen to follow in Drogba's footsteps, and the number 11 shirt would be something to aspire to.

Here in Canada they will often hang jerseys up when they are retired in the sports team's facility, but what often happened is that some of the teams retired too many jerseys. What they ended up doing was having a an honoured numbers where they would hang those jerseys up. I would think something similar could happen here.

I don't like that idea. In hockey it's fine because players use more or less any number, but in football there are quite a few that are used very often. I really can't see us forbidding players to use 11.

No, if we retire any of the numbers #1 through #11 it implies that the player is bigger than the club. The only number from this generation we should even consider retiring is #26 for a man who has spent his entire career bleeding blue.

That's like the NY Yankees, they have 1,3,4,5,7,8,8,9,10,15 plus Joe Torre and Derek Jeter who will have 6&2 retired soon enough. And that's just low digit numbers! Edmonton Oilers should have at least 15 numbers retired too and that's really from one team (to this day the most dominant sports franchise in history of sports, imo)...

I say No on retiring number 11, give it to Lukaku!

Its a nice idea but we can't really do it, we retire number 11 and pretty soon we will have to be retiring 25, 8 and 26. As mentioned by others i wouldnt mind it if at the end of JT's career 26 is retired and we also do 25 (officially) whilst we are at it

Just don't reissue it for a few years and let it build up a bit of mythology... then lets see if some new wonderkid comes along and has the balls to fit into it. Asking for it would be a sign of confidence. Or hubris.

Don't see the point of singling out Drogba when you can make a case for loads of others having their number retired too. And if you do that then sooner or later we'll run out of numbers and the whole thing becomes a farce. 11 has also been worn by a load of players over the years (*cough* Zenden), so retiring it wouldn't really be just about Drogba anyway.
