Borini to Liverpool

Featured Replies

saw this earlier, if Rodgers is after him this quick, then I think it shows how much he knows of Fabio.

Such a shame, but yes I think his Agent and Carlo couldn't reach an agreement

I think Rodgers just wants to bring in some players he's familiar with. Sigurdsson and a few others from Swansea were reportedly on the verge of signing for Liverpool until it was revealed that Rodgers was barred for signing anybody from the club for a year. I wouldn't read too much into this.

Still, I don't like it. Borini's undoubtedly a young player with a considerable amount of potential and I'd hate to see him have success at that sh*thole Anfield.

Im not that fussed, i think he is an ok little player and had a decent season in Italy but its a totally different kettle of fish playing at the top level in the Prem.

That kind of attitude could really bite you on the ass. Have to say I'm pretty disappointed to see him going to Liverpool, I liked the lad when he was here and have followed him a bit since he went to Roma, but have to say I really hope he fails miserably for Liverpool.

Borini wasn't good enough and wanted a shed load of cash.

I don't even know why Liverpool are being linked, It's even on the BBC!? Borini has literally just signed for Roma after that blind auction??!

Liverpool will have to pay about £20M for him I suspect, And that is another Stewart downing job!

lol @ Andy Carroll being loaned out story! £35M? hahhhahahahahahah LONG LIVE THE KING!!!

Worst signing in history?

That is just plain silly. The kid has scored goals everywhere he has been. He was excellent on loan, was leading goalscorer for U18's and Reserves and hit the post in his first five minute cameo for the first team after a wonderful little run in behind. How could we say he wasn't good enough?

As for the shed load of cash. We shortly after went out and bought Lukaku for 18m and paid his wages no worries. How many goals has that netted us?

I think people are over rating him like they do Josh.

He is unproven in our league, yeah he had a good season in Italy. Lets just wait and see how he does this season (if he signs for them) before regretting letting him leave.

We let Di Santo go to Wigan and that wasnt a mistake, maybe if Di Santo went to Italy he would get a few goals as well. Who knows.

From what I understand Liverpool are bidding quite a decent amount of money for him, Rodgers knows what he's getting. He was very much an instant success at Swansea when he went on Loan there as well and an instant success at Roma scoring against big opposition in the process. He also got called up to the Italian national squad by Prandelli, I do think people overate Josh but Josh is one of the most talented youngsters that's come through our academy but I still think Borini will go on and be more successful.

He's the type of player who will pop up at the right time in the right position and will get you goals. I honestly think we let him go because we signed Torres and he didnt suit our style though Carlo admired the player greatly.

Out of all the players we've let go, I fear this one will bite us in the backside the most in my opinion. Though I do agree with Spiller, signing Lukaku for 18 million and letting go an equally talented player in Borini for free is madness.

Of course he's unproven, he wasn't given the chance. When he was he showed he was a good player, he can't do much more. He's a poacher, regardless of the league if you supply him he will score. Tried of hearing "not proven in the EPL".

Di Santo just had a great season for Wigan, one of their key players. Didn't grab as much goals as he would have liked, but he still performed to a very high standard. I've always said we should never let both Di Santo and Borini go, was a stupid decision.

I think Borini is going to be a top quality player in a few years, as someone mentioned earlier, he's got that kind of Inzaghi-like play to his game and he scores quite a few goals. I would have much preferred we increase his wage and keep him on, than splash out stupid money on Lukaku who is much worse.

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has conceded that Liverpool have made an offer for Italian international Fabio Borini.

Reports over the last 24 hours have indicated that the Anfield outfit want the forward and the Italian club have now admitted their attraction.

“There is real interest in Liverpool for Borini,†Sabatini stated on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are evaluating things with Roma director general Franco Baldini and the club, if necessary, will act accordingly.â€

Roma only took control of Borini’s full ownership last month with a €5.3m blind auction bid against co-owners Parma.

The player, unused at Euro 2012, has cost the capital club about €9m in total. Liverpool’s bid is thought to be around €10m.

Reports are suggesting that Roma could sell Borini and then re-invest that fee on Siena striker Mattia Destro.

“Destro? We are always very alert to situations on the market,†Sabatini added. “We’re not in or out of things, we are just watching for now. There are also other strikers on the market…â€

The former Palermo and Lazio transfer guru was also inevitably asked for his thoughts on Francesco Totti’s claims yesterday that Roma need to buy ready made decisive players.

“He expressed his opinion, even if I would have preferred him to say that he was proud to be at the head of a squad that he will guide to glory…

“Everyone wants to sign champions, but we are doing a healthy job for Roma.â€

Roma selling him looks a bit strange considering they just bought and they will be making only €1m/€4m profit however you look at it. I would have thought they would prefer selling Bojan who seems to have stalled and when you consider they might be replacing him with Destro who is inferior, it makes little sense.

It really doesn't make any sense whatsoever. What possible incentive does Roma have to sell Borini for such a tiny profit? I'm hoping this is a sign the rumor is bollocks, because I'd really rather him stay in Italy.

Hope he does sign for Liverpool and stick 6 goals past us.

Sorry, what the f**k are you saying here? You actually want him to go to Liverpool which is bad enough, and then you hope he scores 6 against us?? Why, so you can say "see how mad we were for letting him go!" Or because you're a closet scouser? I don't understand.

I agree with a lot of what you say here, I do think he was a victim of the Torres signing and he and his agent saw a chance and took it. Fiar play to him. I also like that you mention his golas at Roma and his subsequent call up to the Italian national first team. It kind of puts to bed all the sh*te certain people are spouting about "he'd never make it in the Prem." I'm pretty sure there are a few Italian forwards who have done okay at the top level in the Prem.

I agree that he's an INzaghi type player, however, can we please stop saying that Kukaku was stupid money, and how poor he is. Lukaku is still an enigma, so to write him off alrleady is foolish. To say he's a player "much worse" is also a joke. I know Borini is good, but I don't see him setting goal scoring records at 18 in his respective league. They are both great, fantastic, promising youngsters. So lets not compare and write one off whilst wistfully looking at an ex and imagining him going on to great things while in the next breath writing off one of our own. Also, if Borini is like Inzaghi, and Lukaku is like Drogba, would you honestly compare them as they are two completely different styles?

I thought he had left the summer before Torres got here Mac?

As for the scoring 6 goals against us, what a ridiculous thing to say. Borini left us, he chose to leave us after his agent and he were after a stupid contract which we refused to give him, it always looked to me like he (or rather his agent) engineered his way out.

Look I'm still not sure where this idea of a stupid contract comes from. A contract the club wouldn't agree too doesn't necessarily mean his demands were excessive.

Also he left at the end of last season, so after Torres arrived.

It was said around the time of the negotiations, the rumour (and it was always a rumour) was that the reason they were broken off was because the club were sick of the ridiculous demands from his agent and decided to let him go as they felt his agent was engineering a way out of the club.

Bottom line for me was I always liked him as a player. He was one of the players Carlo earmarked after the double season to play with the first team the next year. He left, we spent 50m on Torres +175k/w. 18m on Lukaku for less than 20 goals between them. Questions must be raised about how we treat our own youth team players at this club.

Now we are looking (according to rumour) at letting Sturridge go. Why? Because he wasn't tracking back enough at the end of the year?

Our policy of developing our youth is poor, and my concern is that with CL money, and FFP no longer such a concern, any semblance of that policy is heading out the window. Despite two FA Youth Cup wins and a Reserve League win in three seasons.
