It was a red card offence, no argument, but let's get this right, if a Chelsea player had gone up to a Tottenham player in the manner Vertonghen did with Torres, you can bet your bottom dollar the media would blame the Chelsea player, and you can bet Graham Poll wouldn't omit that little detail from his musings, rather he'd say the Chelsea player got what he deserved.

The face thing?!? Never. If the league was called "The English Pussy League" I'd given him a pink card. Who in that incident was killed, injured, hurt or even mildly bothered? Verthongen probably wouldn't even remember that if he wasn't remembered by it everyday in papers.

I see your point completely, but on the other hand, if I was playing a game of football with a bunch of other players and someone in the opposition came over and clawed at my face, I'd definitely have something to say about it. Or possibly do about it.

Was that unacceptable behaviour by Torres? Yes.

Unsporting? Definitely

Violent conduct? No, he didn't slap the guy, or bite him, or stuck his studs in

If violent conduct deserves a suspension, he deserves one

Anyway, Im sure Jose had words with him, and he's out for a few weeks regardless, karma.

Bottom line is, Torres was completely out of order. But he has got off with it so let's hope he's learnt his lesson and Mourinho has warned him to keep his nails down.

He bites them anyway, so they are already down.

If you were his teammate would you say that? Probably not. Have his back. Vertonghen is a diving, cheating disgrace to the game.

I believe behaviour that doesn't have a place in the game (including clawing at an opposition player's face) deserves suitable punishment, yes. It doesn't matter to me if the player plays for my club. It can't be allowed.

Probably is going a bit far to say violent conduct but given players have been sent off for less I'd say Torres is one very lucky man indeed. Apart from the unfortunate knee injury that rules him out, that is.

On that note, we just have to hope Eto'o is up to the job, since Ba seems completely out of favour and Everton have our best goalscorer.

Haaggus has been banned now anyway which can only be a good thing.

On the whole scratching, Clawing, Tickling thing, I think its been blown up out of proportion, he didn't go to sctratch him it was an accident.

Move on folks, their is nothing to see here.

Oh jolly good news about Haaggus.

However, SP, sad as I am to disagree with you, I have to say it didn't look like an accident to me.  Oops, I accidentally  shaped my hand into a claw and placed it on your face?  You have to be wearing very blue-tinted glasses to see it like that. :shok:

I know. but "handbags?  It's 13 year old girl "I'm not your best friend any more" stuff!  Bit pathetic.  Give me a bashing from Chopper any day!  (well, not literally "give me", you understand!)

Exactly, 95% of players would sh*t themselves if they had to play against the likes of Doug Rougvie. It's all a bit pathetic really.

I'm sure that percentage is actually 95.8% SP. Bloomin' stats.

Who did Spuds have as a hardman back in the mists of time Rich? Graham Roberts? But was he really intermedating?

He was tough rather than intimidating. Talking about things that wouldn't happen now, he lost two or three teeth (to a kick) during the '81 Cup Final and refused to leave the pitch. They are not made that way anymore. Not in the PL anyways.
