Posted October 26, 201212 yr This was discussed like a couple of years ago, but maybe things and opinions has changed, so I'll start a new topic about it. About 6 months ago I started thinking about getting an Xbox 360, but never got around to buying one for different reasons (not enough money, waiting for it to be on sale etc.). But the more I read about the games and see vids from them, the more I want it. So now I've started keeping my eyes open for a good price on one again. However, now I've started looking at a PS3 as well. They cost almost the same, so that don't matter that much. So now I'm not sure if I should get an Xbox 360 or a PS3. Reading tests on the internet the PS3 usually wins. Two of the biggest reasons is that it's got bluray instead of DVD and the live-function is free(?), unlike the Xbox one that cost a bit. Neither one of those functions is that important. I doubt I'd use the Live-function and I don't watch bluray movies (mainly because I don't have a bluray player, so if I get the PS3 I might start doing that), though a bluray disc does hold more memory, so a game could fit on fewer discs on that compared to a DVD. I think I'm more of a Xbox 360-guy. I think I had the first PS many, many years ago, but can't remember if I really liked it. Also had the old Xbox. I liked the controller, but at the time I didn't play much. Whenever I've played at a friends place we've always used the Xbox 360, rather than his PS3. So what are your views on them? Which one is the best?
October 26, 201212 yr My brother has an Xbox and an Xbox 360. They're okay, I know the Xbox had loads of issues with red circle of death or whatever it was. I don'[t think he's had too many issues with the 360. We also share a PS3 between us, and whilst I prefer it to the Xbox (Sony > Microsoft), that's the one that's actually broken. It's just been gathering dust for months now until I work out where to get it repaired. When it was working though, PS3 was better than the Xbox. Graphics seemed nicer, controls are easier to use, and just overall better I thought.
October 26, 201212 yr Well if you have intention of using Xbox Live, which is the main reason people get an Xbox to begin with, then you would be better off with a PS3 as the graphics and interface are generally better. You also need to look at exclusives for each consoles and decide which one has the exclusives that are more appealing to you.
October 26, 201212 yr I would say the only thing that should make you decide which one to get is which one your mates have if they play online. Theres very little to choose between them really, though xbox Live is much better than PSN, as it should be really if you are paying.
October 27, 201212 yr I love my PS3, but I think the fact that you need to pay for online services on XBox, provides them with a more stable online experience. I've had my fat 80GB PS3 for years...
October 28, 201212 yr Xbox 360 but does it really matter ? they both do what you want them to do. I can't stand the fanboys trying to argue which one is better, it's so pathetic.
October 29, 201212 yr I have both but the ps3 gathers dust while the xbox gets used almost weekly. The only time i switch on the ps3 is to watch a blueray film. All my mates at some point have had both but the xbox is by far the best.
November 2, 201212 yr Author Thanks for all the answers. Leaning towards getting the Xbox 360. There doesn't seem to be that much difference between that one and the PS3 when it comes to performance. PS3 does have bluray and the live service if free. But I don't watch bluray movies (if I ever will I might buy a bluray player) and the live stuff seems to be slightly better on Xbox even if one has to pay a bit for it (though it's hardly expensive). Seeing as I've mostly played on an xbox before now I think I'm more used to it than a playstation.
November 5, 201212 yr Trust me the online content is miles ahead on the xbox, yes you do have to pay for it but you can see where the money goes. PS3 just looks cheap and is so far behind.
November 5, 201212 yr Disagree. I have both too, and only find the better thing about Xbox live is the vast amount of games you can download in the arcade (albeit a f**king rip off with Microsoft points) Playstation doesn't seem so out and out money grabbing like Xbox. You have Playstation home on there too, which admittedly I don't use, but if you know a lot of people with PS3's, it could be entertaining. I just find the PS3 slicker, and also it feels like load times are quicker on it.
November 5, 201212 yr I've had both since launch dates and I can deffo say I've played the 360 a tonne more then the PS3 which is just gathering dust atm on the shelf. I've only had one rrod on the 360 but I've also had my PS3 die on me which I had to replace the drive as it was out of warranty.
December 10, 201212 yr Author Didn't want to start a new thread so I'll post a quick question here: If I buy those Xbox Live points, can I use them to get or extend a Live Gold membership?
December 10, 201212 yr I don't think you can unfortunately, only for games and stuff. They'll always try to squeeze as much money out of you as possible.
December 11, 201212 yr No they cant be used for that as far as im aware. Funny story before myself and the missus lived together she was feeling left out because me and our friends would all meet online and play games, she nagged me about it so i went out and bought her a new xbox. After a few weeks I was around there and we put the xbox on and i noticed she had bought those xbox live points, i said to her why did you buy those? She said i dont know, what do they do? I just had to laugh.
December 12, 201212 yr If you want to do online gaming, go with the Xbox, if you want something that works as a great blueray dvd player, solid gaming console, and integrates uite easily for netflix and other picture.music media outlets, then get a PS3 I don't do online gaming much, so have the PS3 and love it

I haven't upgraded my PC for about 4 years and I can still play the latest games. It will need an upgrade soon cos it's getting a bit slow, but 4 years is no different really from the time it takes for a new console to come out nowadays.

My mate has one aswell and bought a PS3 because he fancied it.. Traded it in about a mouth later.. Take from that what you will, I won't say anymore...... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â TEAM XBOX!!!
December 29, 201212 yr Xbox doesn't do Blu-ray though. That was the main reason I bought a PS3 over an Xbox anyway. I tend to use it far more for playing movies, streaming TV programs, iPlayer, 4OD, etc. than playing games nowadays.
December 29, 201212 yr Stock answer is buy whatever the majority of your mates have, that's the only real reason worth thinking about.
