Is wenger planning his exit?

Featured Replies

Is this wenger's final season at EPL? You got Jose, Pep and possibly Klopp all being linked with EPL clubs and Mr Wenger is no fool to think he'll win anything if 2 of these three join manchester or cfc.

I hope not.

He's kept me entertained for many a year now!

He is probably making more money from balancing the books with the Arsenal shareholders than he would by winning trophies

He's bound to be stashing the cash away  :laugh2:

If Arsenal fail to make the top four this season I believe Wenger will be shown the exit door. Guardiola who has been targeted by a number of top clubs has made a statement he would prefer Arsenal over Chelsea or Man City. If we fail to land Mourinho, Roman should make every effort to entice Guardiola to come to the Bridge.

Fantastic manager considering the circumstances, I think Arsenal will really struggle without him.

Yeah. Would anyone take him at chelsea? He does well with a sh*t squad considering so wonder what he could do with a good one.

I was actually going to start a Wenger thread in the rumours section. Not because there's any rumour regarding him and Chelsea and not because I think it ever will happen but just to see what you guys think ..

Earlier this season Wenger stated this could be his last season at Arsenal. He is coming under increasing pressure and most Gooners want to see him Goone (see what I did there?).

Would you take him?

Before you answer consider this ..

Our current manager is none other than .. No, you already know who that is.

Wenger's teams are noted for playing the kind of football our owner rather enjoys (supposedly).

Despite selling his best players every summer and making a profit for his club on transfers Wenger has qualified for the CL in each of the last 16 years (forgive me if this stat is slightly wrong).

That's a pretty incredible achievement, even by Davey Baby standards.

At Chelsea he would have no such financial restrictions, and he would have very good players to work with.

If he does leave Arsenal, he is unlikely to retire, he will probably want one last challenge, and he may have a point to prove.

We may not be spoilt for choice this summer.

So, assume for one moment Jose nor Klopptastic nor Moyesy Baby is coming ..

The question I would like to ask you all is ..

Would you want Wenger at our club?

I wouldn't take him, although if it was a choice between him and FSW then it's no brainer!

We want Jose!

Anything other than that outcome will be not good enough for myself.

He transformed the mentality at the club and we were never as close as a fanbase and squad (in many years) as when Jose was the main man.

Wenger is a joke.

Arsenal are even more of a joke, especially after last night (just type 'Bradford' into Google to read several anti-Arsenal blogs and articles by all the major news websites. Delightful reading)

Wenger will be gone at the end of the season if they don't win the FA Cup or CL. So in other words, he's a dead man walking.

Would you want Wenger at our club?

It's a good question and if you asked me a decade ago or even 2 - 3 seasons ago I would have said yes.

Can't help but admire Wenger but he isn't the coach he was (although still probably one of the best).

But it would never happen as he has always been highly critical of Chelsea and the way we operate / the ££££ and all that and he is a guy of priciple. Plus he is SO Arsenal, there is no way he would go to any of their rivals. It just wouldn't sit right (but would still be more right than what we have currently).

Think he will do well with an International team before retiring.

I would have taken him 10 years ago without a doubt!

Now, I think he's lost that winning mentality, and other coaches have caught up & passed him in terms of his coaching & nutrition techniques.

I dislike him more than FSW. No way would I have him after him poking his nose into our business at any given chance.

At least he didn't say that our fans lack passion and that he would never manage Chelsea only to take the job a few years later.

I think this was going to be his last season regardless, either that or he may have pushed on for another year before leaving. Funny thing is he's still on target so far this season, 2 points off 4th (Pretty much the club's only target, FA Cup is a bonus) and in the last 16 of the CL despite the likes of like Ramsey, Gervinho, Santos, Vermaelen, etc being useless. I still think they will make the top 4 myself but it will probably be closer than what he's normally accustomed to.

As for if I would want him here, the answer is simply no. Don't want to write on essay so I'll keep it brief. Tactically he's not all there, he doesn't have the right mentality anymore, it's like listening to Rodgers during the early stages of his Liverpool reign giving an interview after each match; delusion. And as for the financial restrictions, that was more down to Wenger at times than the board itself. Plus giving the big money signings he's made over the years, it's probably for the best that there are restrictions.

I would have been pretty content with him as the interim manager as it would make the transition from him to Pep (Assuming we get him that is) easier and we could really kick on the following season, but I really can't think of any reason why I would want him to be our full time manager. Well no, that's no true per say...he would give our youngsters plenty of chances which would be great to see but that alone isn't enough.

I wouldn't want him at Chelsea. He's a superb manager, but also a very (very) stubborn one.

I genuinely think if he came here he'd try to prove a point and spend as little as possible, and that's why it would never happen - we're a terrible match for Wenger, and Wenger is a terrible match for us.

Saying that, I think Arsenal fans are growing tired of him and it won't be long before the feeling is mutual judging by the way they've treated him at times recently, I think he'll do a fantastic job at a club with little resources but none spring to mind right now, wouldn't surprise me if he went back to France.

Like others I have a lot of respect for what he has achieved without having spending sh*tloads of money. It's fun to mock the Arse for not winning anything but they have consistently been one of the best teams in the league and have mostly played football that is pleasant on the eye.

It seems that he has lost the plot recently though, so I'd be reluctant to have him at Chelsea at the moment, but then again maybe a change of club is what he needs.

I know he's a sour-faced miserable moaning bar steward but I could tolerate that if we were winning (just).

Wenger's got a great eye for talent and part of me is curious about how successful he'd be pairing said eye with adequate financial backing. On the other hand, he's not the greatest tactician around, although he probably has more tactical nous than most give him credit for. The final piece of the puzzle is man management and he seems to be capable in that regard, albeit not one of the world's best. All told, I think he'd do a decent job and would be a much, much better choice than FSW, but I don't personally like the man and would prefer we find somewhere else.
