I was actually sort of devastated when the team news came out.

I had expected it, i even called for it earlier in the summer but it was so weird not seeing Big Petr Cech in goal...... I hope he's given every ounce of respect he deserves.

It's become almost iconic seeing Cech and his headgear in our goal...it's so strange not having him there.

However we have 2 world class keepers and one has to play regularly for us so we can;t expect the other to stagnate.

Maybe find a swap deal somewhere for a second striker...he won't stay, pride won't allow him to sit on the bench and he is only 32; he has 10 years left at least; just hope he goes to a good home and they take care of him...sad

Will Cech not get a testimonial at some point? The same with Frank and Ash.

We should wait till Terry leaves and give them all a testimonial at once.

I want to see Cech gone. It was hard to see him sitting on the bench today, it will be even harder to watch him waste a prolonged period of time waiting for the league cup games or Courtois to get injured. He deserves much better than that.

Seems like one of the nicest blokes in the squad, and I hope he enjoys wherever he wants to go (and he will surely be a starter at a top club).

He's too good to be sitting on the bench with folk feeling sorry for him. It's kinda sad and somehow takes away a bit of the enjoyment when we are playing well and perhaps now have the worlds best keeper in between the sticks. As pointed out, this situation is exclusive to keepers. Any outfield player would at least have the chance of getting on, whether that be for 10 or 60 minutes, but Cech knows that bar injury or a sending off, he will be sat on the bench for 90+ minutes. As much as we may all like the situation of having a world class back-up, Cech just doesn't deserve that - he's far too good for that and it can't continue. 

We have been so lucky with our GKs. We went from Cudicini to Cech and now Courtois

I think cech has a good season or 2 left in him. We're very lucky to have 2 world class goalkeepers in our squad to choose from, though.

Love it. One poster says Cech has another 10 years At Least and another reckons a good season or 2!!

Who knows, every keeper is different and some can keep their form up till there late 30’s early 40’s like Van Der Sa or Buffon.

I’d love for Cech to be like those above, he deserves it.

Cech has at least 4 years left at the very top and deserves to move on to sustain what has been a fabulous career. Courtios on the other hand is unquestionably the best goalkeeper in the world. He commands the box like no other and in the pass 3 years has had a presence that puts fear into the opposition. With parents that were proffesional volleyball players the way he comes out like a swan to collect crosses with perfect timing is testament to his upbringing in the sporting sphere. Jose made the right choice in difficult circumstances and should as ever be applauded for his actions.

Courtois is a mountain of a lad. Catches every aerial cross un-contested.

Cant get over big pete sitting on the bench. Weird.

We'd be losing another gentleman of our club if he were to go.

 

Top class player, too often questioned and too rarely praised. Three Premier League titles and a Champions League are testament to his greatness. Courtois would do well to have a similar career. 

 

Not sure I'd want to sell him to be honest, I could see him doing a Pirlo and going on to lift another club to great heights. 

Ideally he would stay but we all know that's not fair or possible for him.

He deserves to be No.1 and play every week and I hope he get's that.

However we shouldn't sell for less than 15-20 million, he's still one of the worlds best keepers remember.

He's too good to sit on our bench and we can't be swapping keepers around like that.  It's not a good practice, nor is it good for the players and Jose wouldn't indulge it.  It's the right long term decision, hopefully Cech gets to go to a great club.  Best keeper we ever had.

 

Can we make Courtois wear the helmet?  I can't get used to seeing a GK with hair.

I would want him to get the clean sheet record first before leaving, it would be a nice touch I reckon.

Jose suggested in his post match that he had already made his decision re Saturday and that is he sticks with Courtois and lets face it that will hard to argue about.

I remember how we were surprised when Carlo was replaced by Cech .

Some months ago I voiced the opinion that we wont keep both in the same squad and I am now even more convinced.

Cech has been a great keeper for us and he shouldn't be forced to stay. We owe him the opportunity to have one last big pay day and with it the chance to win more but hopefully in Europe

I don't think he saw it, I don't even think he knew where it was when it fell to Arfield.  Box was packed and he didn't react at all until it was too late.  Took him completely by surprise.  It was just a rare defensive lapse from us.  Someone (Oscar I believe) slipped at a really unfortunate moment to compound it, when he could have blocked the pass.
