He is very reluctant in set piece situations, which is worrying as last season a lot of goals we conceded were from set pieces.

 

I'm not sure that's true. It's true to say that we had the largest proportion of conceded goals from set pieces (somewhere around 35%) but because we conceded so few goals overall such a stat may not be an accurate reflection. I can't for the life of me find a summary of goals conceded from set pieces for every team in the league so without knowing what is a normal amount to concede from set pieces for a season we can't really conclude that we conceded "a lot" of goals from set pieces.

Courtois is a bit more confident at coming for the ball for sure, but maybe that is not necessarily a good thing- maybe Cech in his experience (or Mourinho/Lollichon) feels that being more conservative at set pieces is better in the long run.

Think cech is going to start as number 1. Jose said in the press conference that he had made his mind up. He then went on to say the only reason courtois played 90 minutes tonight was because he has barely played so far because of injury. All points towards cech starting for me

Imagine you're down the pub and an old bloke at the bar keeps trying to talk to you even though you're not really interested in a conversation, but you can see he's not going to quit, so you meekly oblige him. He asks you who you support, and you tell him, then he goes on and on about how his mate knows a guy, who knows this bloke, who has great sources at Chelsea and he's heard through the grapevine that Cech is off.

Just heard from a distant cousin who used to know the daughter of the tea lady at the bridge that Cech might be leaving..

Mourinho likes his keepers to command the area from any ball put in the air. That is why he benched casillas for Lopez. Courtois is better than cech now at this so will eventually be number 1 imo.

One of the two will definitely leave and I have a sneaky feeling it will be Cech. It will be a ticking time bomb to keep one of the two on the bench with Courtois running down his contract and not signing a new one, and Lollichon coming out and saying Courtois is not ready and should go back on loan. Just wish he would Jose would come out and state who his 1st choice is; GKs need to do more mental preparation and stating his preference a day before our first match won't help, and whoever is leaving doesn't have much top club options left in this window.

I think whichever of the two leaves will leave in january

We just can't keep hold of both of them. It would be sad to see cech go, but it was the same to see drogs go (the first time), cole and lamps too, but greave their departures briefly, but then we move on and focus on the future. If Cech is going to Madrid, i just hope we get a good price for him. He has at least a solid 5 years ahead of him at the top level, so anything below 18 million would be unacceptable imo. 

I still think Cech is Joses no 1.

He's very loyal to his players especially ones he's worked with for many years like Petr.

Also, given that we're 1 player over the limit then it makes sense to sell Cech and generate some more money.

I honestly think the baton will be passed, and maybe Cech realises this, history about to become deja vous for Courtois, as was Cech v Cudicini...

Great post! Courtois needs to sign a five year deal if he is expected to start and before Cech is moved. Pained to say Cech will go but it is the reality. Many, many players in all sports have gone through this. Luckily for us and Cech he still is a proven top 3 goalkeeper. I rather see him move on to a top club and perform on the world's stage while he still has it then see him 39 or 40 and be pushed off to say Spurs!

Facts are facts and Courtois due to age and ability is going to be our next keeper. With the said, I expect to see an extension either before or immediately after Cech agrees to leave.

Petr, you gave us your everything and that is all we ever asked for! A true legend and I expect to see a statue of him along Lamps and Terry outside Stamford Bridge! Wonderful keeper but more importantly a wonderful man and representation of Chelsea!
