No it isnt, its clear that Conte knows slagging him off in the press the day before a game would be a totally stupid thing to do. His confidence is shot, he needs it building up as we still need him to play well.

So you think Cahill will be out of the lineup when Terry is fit?

I hope I am wrong but I think you are mistaken. Cahill will have a decent performance today against a crap team and then will be found out against United likely costing us another 3 points.

When Terry and Zouma are fit, yes I do if he keeps playing like this. If his form gets better then he might keep his place. Me, I really hope his form picks up and he can fight to keep his place, because that would be very beneficial to the team as a whole. What wouldnt help is Conte bad mouthing one of his only fit defenders while 2 others are out injured. Can you not see that.

Costa's just seen the team sheet with Cahill penned in to start!

Saying hes a great defender is now false confidence and delusional?

Been a great defender for the club and plenty of life in him yet. You don't become a bad defender overnight. We need to possibly look at the blame lying elsewhere.

Cahill has never been a great defender. He has been ok and might bounce back to decent form over the course of this season. One decent game is not enough to forget about how bad he was before. I am not saying that Cahill is done and I do think that he can contribute, but we should be realistic.

No. It just seems that we have a different definition of "great defender". 

For me the great defenders that we had at Chelsea in the Roman-era are Terry, Gallas, Ashley Cole, Carvahlo and Azpilicueta.

Ivanovic in his prime should be on that list. Cahill has also done Trojan work for us and he only cost a pittance.

And also you are wrong on "every single trophy" part as well.

No I'm not, he's won every club trophy available while with us. I'm not attached at all, I just don't rewrite a players history with us because he's struggling at the moment unlike many of our newer fans.

You kept Luiz off your list.

I am therefore prepared to take your opinion seriously.

Today doesn't change the fact this guy cost us 5 points minimum Swansea, Liverpool and Arsenal if you took 3+1+1. Cahill was never nor will he be a great defender he's average at best i never trusted the Cahill aways getting himself in knocks under minimal pressure. Today doesn't change that I want to see Terry luiz Zouma or even Azpi back 3

At his peak, Cahill was a very good, but not world class, defender who did well with a strong defensive leader next to him (Terry).

He's obviously not at his peak. He's slowed down, does not have the same self-confidence he did back in 2013/14 and appears uncomfortable being the defensive leader. 

At this point, I would be tempted to sell him soon if not for his HG status. If not for that, we could probably secure better squad options.
