Lukaku to Everton

Featured Replies

Didn't Muamba do the same thing? I hope he's careful and doesn't over do it.

Most athletes do, but there is a proportion of them with genetic heart defects.

Considering that modern athletes are working at the limits of human potential genetic problems like that can be manifested with tragic results.

Not sure what all the fuss is about over Lukaku. Yes he scored a few for WBA last year but so did Sturridge at Liverpool. He'll have to be a hell of a lot sharper than he looked in the pre-season friendlies last year. His first touch was woefully clumsy.

A few? He scored 17 goals in front of a pissweak midfield. Not to mention the fact he was a sub most of the year. Pre season friendlies mean f**k all. Marin played well, that says everything. There's a reason were all high on Lukaku at the moment. Just wait until he starts pouring in the goals. It'll become a Lukkake.

Yep, I don't know what all the fuss is about I mean how many players scored aproximetly a goal every 110 minutes, how often is it that a young player like Lukaku gets into double figures, every year there is a young player at some other small club scoring 17 goals  ::clap2::

Both Sturridge and Lukaku have been far more impressive than most strikers in the League - with only the likes of RvP; Suarez; Benteke outperforming them and those players have been no where near as effective as Lukaku and Sturridge.

Hopefully we don't repeat the mistakes of our past with Lukaku even though he scored "only" 17 goals in an year which is more than our 50 million pound man has managed in 2 years and a half at the club.

Wasn't that about what Ba was doing at Newcastle before he came down?

Look, I hope you're right, but there've been too many disappointments in this position to get carried away

My point wasn't about Ba(who had a strike rate of 119.5 minutes per goal at Newcastle), and I also don't buy into slamming Ba - when he has only been at the club for 6 months. Ba was having a good scoring rate when played as main striker at Newcastle(Cisse was moved to the wing), when he wasn't main striker he was ineffectual. So Ba was signed and rotated with Torres and his form suffered in the process, while Lukaku and Sturridge weren't the main striker yet managed a better goal per minute ratio than the likes of Ba; Suarez; RvP etc while being 20 y/o and 22 y/o.

I would have Ba starting every week if we dont sign a new striker. He has talent and is proven in the league. We all know Torres is finished at the top level. He has a good game every couple of months but playing Ba week in week out will get the best out of him and he will get us goals.

If it was up to me i would start Ba and have Lukaku on the bench.

When Ba initially signed wasn't he playing every league game and most the cup ties with the exception of Europa League because he was cup tied. So he was still playing once a week which is still a consistent amount of football.

I think if Lukaku has a stong pre-season and can weigh in with a few goals in the matches then he's going to really be staking a claim to be included in the starting XI.

I think we need to see Ba under Jose before writing him off, a 3 of a firiing Ba, Lukakau and A.N.O would be pretty decent, with the likes of Schurle able to play there also.

I don't see what any of our current front three have done to be first choice, so all should get equal chances even Torres if he is not sold.

Completely agree, which is why unless we sign a new forward, I think pre-season is going to be very important in determining the pecking order that our current forwards start from the beginning of the season.

I don't even particularly rate Torres, but I don't think money or Roman decides pecking order.

He offered more to the team than Sturridge and Ba did last season, so he was most often first choice.

Agree with the one of the comments above. Torres, Lukaku & Ba will all get their opportunity to impress in pre-season, they're all capable strikers, let's just wait and see.

Money and Roman is the simple answer for your pecking order question.

Not with Jose on the helm, that was abundantly clear with Sheva arriving

Completely serious, hence why he got picked for the majority of the matches.

There were plenty of occasions where his touch and hold-up play was really poor, but for the most part his link up play was decent, especially considering how little of the ball our strikers saw last season. I won't argue that Ba and Sturridge were more confident, and were better finishers, but Torres' movement opened defences up for our midfielders.

Ba's hold up play allowed us to mix it up a bit with a big punt up the middle, something Torres couldn't offer, but his positioning actually narrowed our attack. He could hold off defenders well, but he was easy to mark, and rarely upset an opposition's defensive shape.

Far from elite strikers any of them, but Torres was the best we had last season.

Wow i really cant believe someone actually thinks that. Ross Turnbull would have been a better striker than Torres. Having Torres in the team was actually more like paying with 10 men than 11. There were so many times that he broke up our own attacks.

I'm sorry but that's a load of crap  :face_palm:

Sturridge was never played ahead of Torres, and since signing for Pool has scored nearly as many goals as Torres has with us in the EPL for two and a half years.

Ba as I mentioned earlier is a new player, some players are able to join a new club and make an impact instantly some take time. So I'm still not going to say he is definitely not good enough for a first choice striker at the club.
