June 8, 201412 yr Author Rather than asking whether Lukaku is as good as he or anyone else thinks he is, a better question might be whether Lukaku is as good as many of us want him to be. And the answer to that, in my ever so humble opionion, is a resounding: NO.
June 8, 201412 yr Just really another long line of quotes, that too much is being read into. I don't think he is good enough to lead the line here week in, week out. Yet. However, I do think he has the ability to be a very good second choice striker and a potential line-leader in years to come. No player wants to play on the bench and I can't see why we think he should be happy to play on the bench. That hunger to come here, be given a chance and prove he is capable is exactly what most of us have been hoping he would get. It's fair to say he has earned that at least. As far as I'm concerned if he leaves the club without being given an opportunity then that will be twice in three years we have done that which is frankly absurd.
June 8, 201412 yr Author I fully agree. Far too much has been made out of the latest lot of quotes, genuiine or otherwise. Lukaku is a young, high profile footballer, subject to a battery of questions from the media. Not the easiest of situations to handle, but extremely easy for some media hack in search of a headline to manipulate in order to create a story where none exists. I also agree that assuming he's willing to fight for his place, there is every reason to bring Lukaku back to the Bridge next season. We can only speculate about how much difference he might have made last season, but following two successful loan spells in the Premiership, the time is surely nigh to find out exactly what he's capable of in a Chelsea shirt. I think that a lot of the reaction to his latest comments results from exasperation and frustration, based on a feeling (rightly or wrongly) that it was a mistake to allow Lukaku to go on loan last season, togother with the impression that he isn't as good as he thinks he is - or maybe that should read, as good as people think he thinks he is, which is what I was getting at in my previous post. When he came to the club it was as a huge prospect, a Chelsea fan, a massive admirer of Didier Drogba. Among the fans, there was a universal will for him to succeed. To date he hasn't lived up to those initial unrealistic expectations, which is not to say that he won't do at some stage in the future. Lukaku is not yet as good as we would like him to be.
June 8, 201412 yr Problem with that logic is the message it sends out to everyone else in the squad when they're not playing too...moan like a bitch and you get back in the team...Jose will look a weak coach and will have problems all over the place Quite right. And I agree with some people when they speak about too much being made about his latest comments but this isn't the sole reason why this lad gets under the skin of some supporters: "I don't like people talking to me about the Champions League. It wasn't me, but my team that won," he said. "When [salomon] Kalou put the cup on my lap in the bus I asked him to take it away immediately. I didn't want to touch it because just as with the Champions League I had no part in it at all," he told De Standaard newspaper. and Then, even though Jose wanted him in the squad this past season, he would not hear of it. He wanted to improve himself and earn a place in the World Cup squad. And this was possibly at a substantial cost to us. Who knows how much stronger our league run would have been with him in the squad. Ambition is a great thing to have but sometimes it can flow over and turn the person into a complete tw*t. June 8, 201412 yr "You know Chelsea: every year they buy a new top striker. I remember me coming into the dressing room last year and seeing Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba and going: ‘Whoah! What’s happening here?’ But no problem. Many clubs are interested in me." This quote is pretty damning if true. Not sure how it can be twisted, so either its completed made up or he has no confidence in his ability

June 8, 201412 yr Problem with that logic is the message it sends out to everyone else in the squad when they're not playing too...moan like a bitch and you get back in the team...Jose will look a weak coach and will have problems all over the place But also what message does it send out to the players who go out on loan and play well and do better than whats currently infront of you in the first team?.
June 8, 201412 yr True...but moaning about it isn't going to help and he was the one that wanted to quit in the first place
June 8, 201412 yr I don't understand all this stuff about Costa anyway, we aren't going to win the league with just one striker, especially when it's his first season in the premier league. We need competition and cover, Lukaku will offer that. My only concern is that both of them aren't great footballers, like Negredo for City, proven goal scorers, they can score the goals, maybe that's all we need but I have a feeling we need a forward like Aguero, a proper footballer who has similar abilliy to the likes of Hazard on the ball. Either way getting rid of Lukaku is not a good idea.
June 8, 201412 yr I want a non-sulky Lukaku at the club, but he wants to be no.1 and that is not going to happen

June 8, 201412 yr Well im certainly hoping theyre not like Negredo. 9 goals in 32 appearances. Etoo is a better goalscorer than him. He had a good goal scoring record all round, I think he scored about 20 odd for City this season in all competitions.
June 8, 201412 yr We need to make Lukaku an unsullied & then he will shut his mouth & prove his worth for us.
June 8, 201412 yr Lukaku really should learn to behave. Frank should slap him a couple of times and tell him how to act like an adult.
June 8, 201412 yr This topic is so boring! Just give the kid a proper chance and if he doesn't perform then people can get on him. Nobody knows if these comments are true. Everybody just speculates. And for the CL comments he made, I don't have a problem with them. He really had nothing to do with that cup. He doesn't want to be praised for something he didn't do. He wants to earn it. This kid is different from any other striker in the world at this age and we would be absolutely stupid to sell him. Give th kid a chance before you all run your mouths.
June 8, 201412 yr Give him a chance!?! If the guy clearly doesn't want to fight for the spot why give him a chance. So Lukaku wants Chelsea not to buy a world class striker. He is not a world class striker himself. He is a young promising player. A good player no doubt about it but be cool don't run your mouth and just keep on working.
June 8, 201412 yr He is technically fighting for his place when he goes out on loan too. Players Like Courtois and Lukaku if they didn't do well out on loan we wouldn't even be discussing them.

June 8, 201412 yr He is technically fighting for his place when he goes out on loan too. Players Like Courtois and Lukaku if they didn't do well out on loan we wouldn't even be discussing them. Not to mention out playing every striker we have had over that time. And most strikers in the PL. But I guess he needs to do a lot more for some people. Chelsea has a history of not letting their youth play. It is frustrating, especially for a player that has produced like Lukaku has. Let him play.
June 9, 201412 yr Lukaku is incredibly talented. It would be a shame if Chelsea sold him now. Give him a chance this season and see if he picks up his attitude.

Give th kid a chance before you all run your mouths. the fact is he wants to walk into the team, i expect he wants guaranteed first team spot, which is not possible for a club like Chelsea so what if he does not perform in the first 3 months and we lost the title, who should we blamed?
June 9, 201412 yr Lukaku is incredibly talented. It would be a shame if Chelsea sold him now. Give him a chance this season and see if he picks up his attitude.Again I don't think it is about giving him a chance. I think the club would give him a chance to be one of our three strikers but it seems Lukaku doesn't have the guts to fight for his place. If he had the courage he shouldn't be afraid if we buy Costa or any other striker. That is what he is suggesting anyway in that interview. He thinks he would be the solution to all our scoring problems and thinks we don't need Costa or any other striker. The club thinks we need a strong frontline. I happen to agree with the club. If he thinks he is world class then take the place from Costa if he arrives and keep your mouth shut.
June 9, 201412 yr the fact is he wants to walk into the team, i expect he wants guaranteed first team spot, which is not possible for a club like Chelsea Same could be said for Courtois. Noone seems to mind that.Even though Cech is a legend and one of the best keepers around. Certainly couldn't be said for any of our current strikers. Edited June 9, 201412 yr by Spiller86
