The point is to test the resolve and destruct the player but to be honest,he is one of the best players in the world and playing in a three with hazard and costa would be scary, Griezman is the only other player I can think of that takes us up a level. Beyond that you are looking for that bit of luck on a player that it didn't quite work out for, perhaps the boy Lucas at PSG for example

I get you, but what if they accept the offer? 100m will make Arsenal stronger, even without Sanchez and we'd only get a few years out of Sanchez.

50m tops imo

Dybala ?

Could be, I haven't seen enough of him but he's only one year at Juve, I don't think we would get him in Jan. I'm just down the line of thinking that another world class player on our other wing and it would be very hard to see us not won the league, like robbed and duff combo. And I let the 60 mill from Oscar go to my head, normally I'm all about looking inwards

Point taken, he is a couple of years older then I thought he was

I agree with you, yet I won't sign Sanchez for 100.

So, why was this deal announced so early?

Our choice? Their choice?

Hard to hide given Oscar's absence from the squad lately?

Now he's gone I find my self wandering what went wrong. Such early promise that never progressed

More like "Big Cubic Zirconia" ... as it transpired .... :-)

Classic comment sums him up very well.

An excellent deal for Chelsea I just hope we spend it well, a creative midfielder or a wing back I think we need back up in that area Alonso and Moses can't keep exceeding expectations!.

We have so many good central defenders out on loan or on the bench so I hope we don't follow up on all the rumours and start chasing one when Christensen Zouma Ake etc are more than good enough. I would love us to give some the young players a chance to shine I know it is difficult in the premiership but how else will they become good premiership players if we don't give them a try. I don't want to see Tammy Abraham go the same way as Patrick Bamford or Piazon who I now think are both lost causes.

Such a shame he was never given a chance to play his best position, could have become a world class CM, but I can't blame him he will probably play there for 2 or 3 years make an easy £40-60m and then come back to Europe

Not playing his best position was the main issue, Oscar never has and never will be a number 10, he has all the attributes to be a top CM, which was where he played in Brazil

Am not surprised. Even after that Juventus match, I still never thought he would be a world class player.
I never saw it in him, maybe its because of his body language or something else.

Oscar? Become a world class CM? Lol, he can't give what he doesn't have. If he were an African or a player from an Armenian or something like that, I think most of us won't be surprised the way it's ending right. Being a Brazilian made us have high hopes for him. He flatter to deceive. He is just overrated.

Always the risk when you buy players so young I suppose.

How many young English players have exploded onto the scene only to fade away into false promise in the last 5 years?

I look at a player like Ross Barkley and see a player who keeps showing glimpses of promises but doesn't seem to kick on to that next level.

Oscar's best performance for us was probably that game against Juventus where he played quite deep, maybe if we'd played 4-3-3 rather than with a number 10 he'd have developed better as a box to box midfielder?

We always hear about the Juve game but what about Shaktar

those early days under Robbie he showed imagination and had the execution to pull it of, that slowly disappeared over the last few years .

5there is another player in the clip who makes some cracking runs of the ball but has been missing ever since

Pretty crazy that after this transfer we have only spent about 55£ million net on transfers since 2013.

Just a net of 34mil pounds in the last 3 windows. Crazy Business by the club

2016/17 (so far): 21.8mil

2015/16: 7.8mil

2014/15: 4.2

Making a total of 33.8mil pounds.

He clearly had the potential to become a world class CM, and still can if he doesn't stay in China for too long and goes to a team like Juventus and gets to play CM, he has all the attributes to excel in that position.

I never gave that a thought though, perhaps playing in a different league in Europe might actually bring out the best in him.
  • 2 weeks later...

I saw the video of him at the airport, and he definitely looked shell-shocked. Maybe realising what a circus he's walked into...there's a reason they have to pay so much!

Hmm, doesn't look so happy...

You make it sound like he did or said something horrible. I don't think he has done anything to warrant that kind of feeling.

I wouldn't think so. He's earning more than Messi and Ronaldo.

I wonder how long the money alone can really make you 'happy' for though? Factor in a much bigger cultural shift than the one from Brazil to England and all that comes with it, plus the lower quality of their football and the fact he wasn't exactly poor before. Surely there comes a point when the money is just a ridiculously big number and you need some job satisfaction? I guess being paid to play football at all is a pretty good deal though.

I wish him the best, I always hoped he'd reach his full potential with us, but he gave us some good goals and was with us for some great journeys. If the money helps him and his family then I guess that's why anyone goes to work everyday.
