Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

I used to think coutinho was better, but oscar works his socks off and I think the reason coutinho is more consistent is because he is given the freedom at Liverpool. Oscar is still so young that he may not be in his prime years yet as a player.

I wouldn't say Coutinho is more consistent than Oscar. Last season he was very average for the first half of the season and only really picked up form in the 2nd part of the season and this season he's probably had more average games than good ones, he also struggled for consistency when he was at Inter Milan

Two words explain why Oscar is playing better... Cesc Fabregas. That's it people.

This^. I think Oscar's biggest problem last year was that we didn't have a CM who was on the same wavelength as him. Fabregas seems to already have a good understanding with Oscar and it's no surprise that Oscar's form is on the up again. Fabregas' presence as well allows Oscar to interchange between the no.10 and deep-lying role, and for Fabregas to do the same vice versa, something which should help to shift the ball quicker when in possession.

The free-kick Oscar scored was majestic and eerily reminiscent of Gianfranco Zola. The symmetry between this strike and his goal against Stoke was tangible; it is clearly a technique that Oscar has worked on repeatedly. Undoubtedly the Brazilian needs to start to add more goals to his game, but his contribution is transcending that of a mere playmaker at present. Oscar’s relationship with Eden Hazard and Cesc Fàbregas has been particularly fruitful.

What is patently clear about Oscar’s growth this season is his sheer capacity to outwork any opponent. In this alone he is rewriting the rules about what to expect from a number ten. Having a maverick player capable of sublime moments is no longer acceptable. This is the difference between Oscar and Juan Mata. The Brazilian may never generate Mata’s goals or assists, but his overall contribution to the team is miles ahead of anything the Spaniard could deliver.

Oscar adroitly knits together the attack, operating as a link between all facets of play. The way he rotates in and out of the number ten spot with Fàbregas is extremely difficult for teams to counter. Likewise, when he drifts out wide and allows Hazard or Willian/Schürrle to move centrally he causes so many problems. It is this attacking rotation that has redefined our team and Oscar is the trigger for all this movement. He is intelligent beyond his years and the trust Mourinho has in him looks well placed.

I still find it hard to believe some people wanted him sold last season after a drop in form. Can't think of a more complete no10 in football

He's improved on last season but he's in no way the most 'complete' no 10 in football, that's ridiculous.

When I say say complete, I mean he's capable of doing almost everything you would want from a footballer. He can pass, shoot, tackle, press effectively, take penalties, take free kicks, track his runner, good crosser of the ball....

He's not the best no10 around, the likes of Silva, Kroos, James are all better than him but none of them are capable of what Oscar offers

Is that you JoeTweeds?

In our system Oscar is a perfect fit. Silva et al wouldn't do anywhere near as much defensive work.

Nope sadly that's not me

He wrote that article on Oscar I posted though

I thought Oscar, Fabregas and Willian all looked sloppy today... Disappointing considering their recent good form.

Hopefully a one off from all of them.

I will agree with you on Oscar and fab but Willian was good going forward even defending he was great

Disagree

I know it wasn't the perfect performance from all three but Willian was fairly better. I agree if someone said he doesn't have a good finish and doesn't score goals but defending wise he was good. Fabregas wasn't great today either, his corners were not clinical and Oscar was 50-50 too , not the same Oscar from the last two games.

Oscar was about a 6/10after 2 8/10 great games, but I do have a problem with Willian, who's consistently about 6.5/10. For a guy of his price tag, really expected a bit more. We expect the likes of Hazard/Oscar/Cesc to put on an awesome performance every week, Willian just get a free pass.

So far our attacking play against Arsenal, City, and United has been poor. So many stray passes and terrible counter attacks. Today we didn't have Costa or Remy to make runs behind or in the channels and occupy the defense so being accurate was even more important. I agree that Oscar was poor today as were many of them, although Oscar was involved in one of the few moments were we didn't have a brain fart in the final 3rd when he passed to Drog for his chance.

5 points though and two tough away fixtures out the way.
