Hazard, ruddy great, such potential. Something is adrift with his form, but as the skill is there he has every chance of a significant improvement. Little guy from little ol' Belgium has done great things so far.

Surely we can cope with at least 1 player that isn't great defensively. Why do attacking players have to be great defensively at chelsea, but not so much at other big clubs?

That's a very good question. I don't often hear of this issue of not working back and thus being dropped happening to Aguero or Messi and so on.

Apart from Man City and Barcelona having different football philosophies than we do under Mourinho, I think part of the reason is because those players make themselves indispensable by tearing teams to pieces at the other end. Hazard at the moment is simply not doing enough to maintain his place in a Mourinho team.

Could it possibly be that the pressure to work back and defend is maybe the reason why Hazard as good as he can be has so far failed to reach their level?

He was player of the year last year, he has shown he can do it. He hasn't looked a patch on himself from last season.

I think it's more of a matter of bad form rather than the pressure of tracking back. As others have pointed out, he was the POTY last season and has shown that he has no problem excelling upfront while going back to help his teammates.

 

Well, hopefully he can find his form and re-establish his place in the first eleven soon.

He doesn't track back because of his height. His tired little legs just don't have the energy for an all-out sprint all the way back to the other end of the pitch to help out his team mates #fivefootsevenproblems
