Branislav Ivanovic - Your Views?

Imo ivanovic has been solid and consistent since his return

you must be having a larf....he's been tits, beaten several times yesterday with Zouma continually bailing him out, he gets caught up field, strolls back and generally wanders around out of position.

Exactly what my dad said while we was watching the game. It's painful when you have a great RB playing our of position and have spent 30m + on 2 left backs in the last 2 years and they both never got a look in.

Imo ivanovic has been solid and consistent since his return

Whoscored player ratings of Ivanovic since return 7.32, 7.22, 7.05, 6.84, 8.02, 6.64, 7.38, 7.42  pl 8  ave 7.23

Average before his return his average rating was 6.52 so a marked improvement to say the least.

Disclaimer yes I know whoscored isn't really a perfect representation of a players true performance but it is an unbiased measure of player performance and will be able to show a change in player performances and there is a clear improvement after coming back.

This is also backed up by our improving defensive stats,

Chelsea's goals conceded since Ivan's return to the side 6 goals in 8 games (0.75/game), before his injury 17 goals in 8 games (2.125/game) and without Ivan 6 goals in 4 games (1.5/game).

Which yes again doesn't tell the whole story but if he was playing as badly as he was in the first block of games we would be conceding more.

Personally i think he has been pretty solid since coming back and has been massively better than he was at the start of the season and therefore he has been so much less exposed and no where nearly as targeted as he was before.

And i don't think it can be claimed that he played badly because he got beaten a few times and was caught out of position once or twice as every full back in the league will do, most far more often, heck look at Suare and Ward from the previous game how many times did they get beaten and allow crosses in, its an obscene standard to set.  I don't see people ranting at Azpi for the same offenses which yes he does get occasionally beaten and is caught more often up the pitch than Ivanovic admittedly he can and does get back a lot quicker and usually gets back into a position in which we usually can recover but it still happens.

Probably for the best with Terry's future still uncertain.

Would like to see him start being used less and less though, next season is a good time to make Baba first choice on the left and put Dave back on the right with seemly no european football to play.

I'd rather keep Terry another year as backup if we want to retain a leadership presence, can't fathom this one out at all. With such a good replacement in Azpilicueta, I'd rather switch him back right and have Rahman and DaSilva fight it out for the LB spot if its a case of saving money on a big new transfer.

Why give him anything ?

Its apparent that he's done, along with JT, I'd keep JT for 1 more season cause of his leadership qualities but the team needs a brand new defence, one that

actually works !  not what we witnessed again yesterday

If the plan is to keep him at RB then we really do know whose calling the 1st team shots

This post is in no way intended to diminish all the great things and achievements Brana has done/ won for this magnificent club, but sadly every dog has his day.

Another poor game, 2 goals came from his side and lost the player at the 3rd goal.

What is the reason behind his starting role in the lineup? I don't really remember Baba making mistakes that give the opponent a goal. Maybe he's our vice-captain, but he doesn't deserve to start, this is annoying.

Do not give him another contract.  He has been woeful more so than any other player this year.  Kurt covering for him again.  Strolls back and is continually out of position.

Yeahm watching how Ivanovich is consistently starting it makes me think that Baba was a bad buy too and hence he is not able to break in. If you look at it, RLC made it in once, Kennedy is becoming a regular substitute but Baba is not even sniffing the field even though defense is a liability for us this year.

Get out with that kind of sh*t, wishing Injury on one of our players is moronic.

huh, you waited your chances, didn't you? if only you're as a kind hearted o-san as you self-portrayed yourself out to be then maybe I'll say fair enough but we both know it ain't true..

Nobody says anything about nasty injury, just injury which is such a common thing in football so get down of your high horse and start thinking of chelsea best interest!! But I think you prefer to see chelsea fail so that will justify the sacking of jose is wrong, right?

Lemme tell you something, if an injury to ivan can stop the manager keep on picking him and at the end benefit chelsea then I don't see what's moronic in it? Not thinking of chelsea best interest as a chelsea fan is what can be considered moronic, food for thought for the likes of you.. .

^^^ word salad

There's a way to want the best for Chelsea that doesn't involve wanting an injury on one of our own.

ok lets try this, as long as ivan fit, he seems to have the privilege to be picked by whoever the manager is and I don't think anyone need reminding of how liable he has been this season.. if you have another way that doesn't involve a wishful thinking like he's getting dropped while fit or he suddenly picked up pace & form then I'd like to hear it out..

I don't understand why he's constantly picked, I really don't.  But at the same time, he is being picked which either means 1) he is amazing in training and justifies his selection, or 2) we don't have a better option?

Either way, it is certainly a weakness, and wishing an injury on one of our own is wrong
