Branislav Ivanovic - Your Views?

Featured Replies

Did Jose make Del Horno the best left back in the world or how about Kezman the most feared striker in the world?

Yes.....

I feared for my life stood behind the goals anytime Kezman shot.

Branislav Ivanovic is an uncompromising defender but he has also become one of Chelsea’s key attacking weapons.

He’s either scored or made chances for team-mates in all of the last seven Premier League games.

Against Tottenham his total of 14 completed passes in the attacking half of the pitch was more than strikers Andre Schurrle (7) and Samuel Eto’o (5) put together.

Chelsea are to open talks today over a new four-year contract for Branislav Ivanovic.

The combative defender, who turned 30 last month, has two years left to run on his current deal but Chelsea are willing to offer improved terms on his £120,000 a week salary.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have both shown interest in Ivanovic but he is keen to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge where he has become a trusted figure for manager Jose Mourinho.

The Serbia international is viewed as one of the senior figures in the dressing room and is key to helping bring on the new influx of younger players that Mourinho intends to blood and develop over coming seasons.

Chelsea are willing to offer John Terry and Frank Lampard new one year deals and will discuss putting Ivanovic in the same wage bracket.

Speaking last week, prior to playing for Serbia against Republic of Ireland, Ivanovic underlined how he is settled with life in London. He said: 'I can say this is the happiest I have been at Chelsea because, at the moment, the team is doing well and things are going right for us.

Ivanovic, who counts world number two tennis star Novak Djokovic among his friends, added: 'We have improved as a team since the beginning of the season, it looks like we are a very strong team but we have the potential to make and build an amazing team.'

Kinda loses credibility when it puts Hazard as a forward when he is a midfielder

thought during the game that branislav ivanovic is a manager's dream. one of those players that you can guarantee will carry out any instruction to the letter. super dependable. luckily when he misses that semi, we have a half-decent replacement for him in a certain Mr Cole

Ivanovic used to be one of my favourite players, but his playing right back has meant that this feeling has greatly waned (though he's not to blame). He gives it his all. Beast of a player, just wish he plays centre next season as his primary position. Maybe JT and Iva can share the minutes alongside Cahill, and He can still deputize for Azpi. Next season has got to ba Azpi and Shaw!

Ivanovic in CL team of the season by goal.com:

Our back four begins with Branislav Ivanovic, who was part of an exemplary Blues defence which kept seven clean sheets prior to their 3-1 semi-final second leg loss to Atletico. The Serbian was a crucial cog in Jose Mourinho's solid side and even managed to create six goalscoring chances from full-back.

Top class as a CB, a good but not outstanding option at RB imo.

In the coming years I look forward to Jose hopefully giving him and Cahill a chance to develop a good partnership, along with them forming links with Kalas and Zouma. Seems like JT will hand us over to good hands when he stops being a regular.

Shame we can not currently say the same with Frank.

VG Centre Half, not the greatest RB, tits at crossing, sometimes throws a wobbler and can get nasty; hopefully we get a decent LB in so Dave can have his spot back..

I'm really hoping we can get a top quality LB in so we can move Dave RB and Ivan into the centre. I think the entire team would be better balanced a I always feel that we song have enough natural width when Ivan plays there.

Lack of respect for Ivan being shown here.

Guy is arguably our most consistent player since he first broke into the team. People seem to forget that the primary role of a fullback is to defend, something he does mightily. Also is and always has been the scorer of important goals. City at the Eitihad ring any bells?

Would be very happy to see him continue at RB with Dave on the left. Defence was the strongest part of our team all year, no idea why we need to tinker with it.

Agree fully with Spiller86 regarding a lack of respect. BranoIvano has been a fantastic player for us; a modern day David Webb who gives his all and very rarely lets us down. Can anybody think of an out and out stinker of a match that he's had barring the Swansea game?
