Our New Stadium

Neilando it says playback error when I try to watch the video? What's the title of the video on YouTube?

Anyone else having the same problem?

The roof is pretty much the same height as existing structures. Hence the severe slops. The stand the has the most significant height increase is the shed. But the new shed stand matches the footprint and height profile of the existing hotel complex. So there would be no change is light that may affect neighbours. Very clever.

Credits due where credits due if that's the case. Anyone know what the spaces between buttresses are going to be filled with? Will it be a solid structure apart from the circular opening or will there be some kind of glass? panelling between buttresses in order to get more light?

And has anyone got any idea about the steepness of the stands? As someone who's sat in the east upper several times just wondered if it will be a similar steepness or maybe even steeper if that's possible?

The new stadium is basically the east stand wrapped around all four sides. The three tiers each have almost exactly the same slo, size, and number of rows as the current east stand. The top tier obviously changes height as it goes around the stadium.

The North Stand (Matthew Harding) will be significantly taller than it is now, according to the renders the club produced and also what I was told at the consultation. The club feel they can get away with making that one taller, but nothing else.

As you say, the South Stand will be taller but it will be the same height, more or less, as the complex behind it.

Good work and well put together but I don't look like that its going to be the most atmospheric of stadiums especially with the ring of coparate seats. Oh how I wish we had a single tier stand. Maybe its just not an option.

Slightly off topic but my mate who's an artitech said that the guys who are designing the stadium are world class, top of the range. He said that they've only recently just got a website - they don't need to sell or promote their company because of the high quality stuff they do.

I mean, you would expect that the club would hire top notch guys so it's no surprise really. But it's nice to know they're conisidered probbarly the best in the world.

I posted this on another site but it's relevant to your question:

The upper tiers will apparently be 35 degrees which is actually one degree more than the recommended maximum slope as stated in the Stadium Green Guide. This is barely less than the current East Stand Upper Tier and I asked one of the consultants how that worked. He said that they were just recommended limits but that if a club exceeded them they have to put in additional compensatory features like extra hand rails and a maybe bar in front of every seat (he said they do this in Galatasaray's new ground). So basically the people in the upper tier will be as close to the pitch as they can be though some may well be slightly further away than currently (though remember it's the new fans who will get these seats). You also need to consider the fact that the ground will all be enclosed rather than the mish-mash of stands we have currently with the awkward way they join with each other. The fact that the roof will be more substantial and 'reflect crowd noise back into the stadium' will also help every spectator feel close to the action. That's what I was told anyway and it makes sense to me.

Where did you get this info from? Sounds good if true and isn't there already some seats with hand rails in the east upper towards the top?

I was always a little disappointed the Batersea thing fell through. I thought there was a lot of potential there.

Would have made for an Iconic stadium for sure. At least we don't have to worry about losing the soul of the stadium if we stay where we are at. Plus we don't have to dig anybody up from the pitch hopefully this way!

I know this is a pipe dream but it would be handy if a match day pub was incorporated into the new complex somewhere.

The old shed end bar was actually decent about 7 years ago before it turned into whatever restaurant it currently is.

Pubs around the area are rapidly closing down; each season see's a couple more disappear or turn into gastro pubs not suitable for the match day crowd.

It is seemingly a problem caused by the area and the fact that pubs need to cater to the market that will pay 365 days a year, not 19, and unfortunately that is the 'made in Chelsea' types.

There are still some decent pubs but I do wonder if they will survive in their current form over the 3 year period that there will be no match day revenue.

What would be great is a pub that had screens for football, large enough to accommodate a suitable amount of people, and that tolerated football fans singing etc. It's never going to be a so bar with beer flying around but just a pub that was designed for football fans with staff that were tolerant and laid back would be nice...

Good points all round mate. I think the pubs around West Brompton are safe for now and, by and large, cater for football fans. If you want the big screen vibe etc then that's what Brogan's and the one across the road in Fulham Broadway are for.

It's really quite depressing what the SoBar has become, that was probably the best pre-match pub for a while from what I've heard. I remember back in the day when it was the Britannia, then the SoBar, and now it's some awful Hawaiian-themed cocktail bar. Similar thing happened with the Pelican, not the nicest place by any means but it was convenient and now has become a gastro pub.
