Getting worried........

Featured Replies

Reading this morning's papers and they all say that Jose said yesterday there will be no big additions or big money being spent and the club basically wants him to work with what he's got, even if it means not winning a Trophy for the first year or so!!

Not gonna lie, this is a big disappointment. It's obvious the squad we have is not good enough atm. We only just made top 4 and were a failure in the Champions League. Bayern are strengthening despite winning the CL, Real and Barca will spend big. At home Man City are investing and the reports this morning say Lewandowski and Fabregas are near to signing for Man United. If true I can't see us winning the EPL even with Jose.

It doesn't make sense because Benitez said Roman was going to make 100 million available for the new manager and Benitez had told Emanelo and RA that this squad was not good enough. Not signing some decent players is not giving Mou a chance against the other teams.

We desperately need a world class proven striker, EDINSON CAVANI should be our no.1 target, get rid of Ba and Torres if possible. Yet this morning we are linked to Rooney....again :-(

Rooney, past his best & hasn't played well for 2 seasons now. Plus he is on mega money, £250k per week at Man United.

It would probably work out more expensive to sign Rooney than a better striker like Cavani. Rooney would cost about £25-30m, then £250k per week in wages. Cavani would cost £53m (Which can be amortised for the length of his deal) but would only be around £150k per week in wages. Just doesn't make sense to go fir Rooney when there are better players available: Cavani, Lewandowski, Suarez etc. Rooney to CFC is another Torres situation in the making.

The squad doesn't need much to be honest. Just a striker as you said, a DM and a centre back, whether it be a centre back that we own already or not. The club might probably sign another young CM and a young LB. Two main names that were linked have been Van Ginkel and Shaw.

I'm glad Mourinho didn't dwell too much on transfers because it would have given the papers an opportunity to print a story 10 different ways because of one sentence he may have said.

We've got a strong squad, and we're bringing back a couple of good loanees.

Wouldn't say no to one or two new additions, and I'm sure there will be, but I'm just as happy to see the current squad build together on last season.

There's plenty of summer left, Man City are the only major club to have announced signings so far, and we weren't in for either of those players.

I will just be sooooo fukin gutted if we get Rooney!! But I've got this awful feeling we will :-(

There are some really good players available atm and if we pay Man United a load of money for Rooney and they go and spend it on Lewandowski, that strengthens them and we are stuck with most likely another flop. But this time it will make Torres wages look like peanuts. It will show the club has learnt nothing, zero from Shevchenko and Torres.

Strong squad we have, just need a consistent striker to bang in some goals

Do you think the midfield creates enough chances for the striker though or more like they all try to score goals themselves? Neither Torres nor Ba have been scoring freely at Chelsea and this is what worries me about Lukaku. Strikers seem to score freely at other clubs and then are completely exposed at Chelsea.

I think they are creative but they also like to hold the ball and pass, pass pass, they need jose to groom them into how to compose the link up with the striker.

To be honest we cant compare Chelsea to Bayern imo. They've had the same brilliant squad at least the core in the CL final 3 times in the last 4 years. We all love the word transition but our squad is in it.

I'm not worried. We have the best trainer in the world, good young squad with potential. With 2-3 additions, if they are succesful we can compete against City and Utd.

Actually what Jose told in the presser is what most people here have longed for, stability and implementing youth.

Not worried at all. Even without any new signings, and with KDB and Lukaku coming back, our squad is quite formidable

It's really not though, when you take blue tinted eyes off!

I hate Benitez as much as anyone but he was right when he said the squad was not good enough, not strong enough, lacked quality and depth.

I agree with Lane, we have a formidable squad. If Mourinho can get them ticking, they're certainly capable of really competing with the Manchester clubs for the title this season.

We have a lot of gifted younger players who will only improve too. This isn't a short-term glory project, look at it as an opportunity for us to really develop and grow as a team, hopefully back to being on of the major forces in Europe in years to come.

I wouldn't get worried if we don't spend millions on new signings this summer, as this might not be the time to do it. I'm not saying we won't bring in new additions, but Mourinho's made clear he's excited to work with the players already at his disposal. We're in safe hands, and our transfer activity (or lack of) will be in the long-term best interests of the club, sit back and look forward to next season.

i certainly dont feel this team lacks quality. we have the comfortably the best AMs in the league. cole is still arguably the best LB. our defence is still good. our keeper is world class. yes we have finished some way off the top spot, but

for half a season we have been playing with just 1 striker. even if we dont sign anyone we will start the next season with 3

azplicueta, hazard and oscar all have a season worth of premiership experience and will undoubtedly build on that

de bruyne will most likely come back, and will be one of the best AMs in the league

we have mourinho at the helm. i dont think hes a miracle worker, but he is better than both RDM and benitez

We have an amazing first eleven. We have not enough good bench options. We really need good bench options.

Maybe Jose has been told to work with what we currently have. It wouldnt shock me if Rafa was told to say that there was 100 million avalible. At the time season tickets were up for renewal and fans were very unhappy with the club for sacking Robbie and appointing the FSW. What better way to make the future look brighter than saying the is a shed load of money to be spent in the summer.

Lets be honest here, if Jose really had 100 million to spend then he would spend it. Every manager would!

Did he actually say that? If he did it just proves how crap a coach he is in that he couldn't get the best out of the talent he had available.

We don't need loads more big money signings. Anyone who thinks we do are living in fantasy football world. We've got what we really needed. A top manager who will get the best out of his squad and out think and out coach his opponents. I expect us to sign one decent striker (in place of Ba or Torres) and one decent defender as a challenge / cover for the ones we already have. Other thgan that, with the quality we have returning from loans we are pretty much sorted.

I think this time around Jose has fit into Roman's way. Yesterday Jose said Torres is staying and he wants to try and get the best out of him. Anyone who has seen Torres in the past 2 years knows that he is finished. Well apart from Roman.

I get the feeling that Jose has joined us under Romans terms and will do what he is told. So that includes being told what players he has and who will be coming in. The Jose we have seen in both interviews is not the real Jose, it is someone who has been told to calm it down and not bring any bad press to our door again. Not that i mind this but for me anyway its clear that Roman is calling the shots and Jose is doing what he is told........for now.

I don't think he said that.  He said something like he would be trying to get the best out of the squad he has and there would probably be a "couple of signings because that is normal"  or words to that effect.  If it's being reported that he said there will be no big additions or big money spent that is either something that was said only to the press journalists or made up! Or distorting what he said which was  that he wanted to work with the squad and he wouldn't be asking for lots of zeros.  Talk about twisting things out of context!

Found the quote - "That's the first part of this job. It's not to arrive and say, 'Mr Abramovich and members of the board, I need some more money with a lot of zeros, I need to change half the team, move this one and buy that one'," added Mourinho.

"No, I need to work with the players and not commit injustice. I need to give them a chance, be fair with them. After that we'll have time to make decisions."

It's not the end of the world to me if we see no big name players come in, the squad have shown they are good enough to compete last season by beating Manchester United, Arsenal, Totenham.

If you are able to beat your rivals you're able to contend for the title. Where we fell short last season was by dropping points to teams in the bottom half of the table.

Results against QPR, Reading, Southampton, Newcastle and West Ham spring to mind and I feel confident that under Mourinho we will not drop points against those types of teams on the regular basis we was under Benetiz.

Even if Lukaku doesn't go out on loan we go into the season with 3 recongnised strikers which we didn't do last year where Torres was the only fit forward for the most part until the New Year as Sturridge was injured and then it became apparent very early on he was going to leave for Liverpool which it is safe to assume now he would have done sooner had we been able to bring in a replacement.

As nice as it would be to see Cavani or Lewandowski or another sign it isn't going to be the be all and end all of the season.

I can't see us winning anything without doing something to our central midfield. Ramires and Lampard is playing a bit out of position in 4-2-3-1 and Mikel is not consistent enough.

Bloody Hell!! You've been screaming for Jose for months, and now he's here, you're worried!

Ilcfc etc, you really are avery lucky lady if that's all you have to worry about.
