Closing in on Geoffrey Kondogbia

I saw a bit of him on Youtube, he looks strong, powerful and good with his head. He is only 20 and he's 6 ft 3 1/2. A real man mountain in midfield, just what we need. Also, he's young so plenty of time to improve, especially under Mourinho.

He also can't pass to save his life.

What's that matter. As long as he's big and strong - THAT'S what counts!

Might aswell sign Brock Lesnar then, he ain't doin much these days.

That's the impression I have. He seems really poor technically and just a physical beast. People on WAGNH are saying how he has a 'really high ceiling', but he doesn't appear to be a footballer. I know we need some physicality in the midfield, BUT AT WHAT COST!? ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

Also, signing a 20 year old who is too raw to be first choice right now doesn't seem the best idea to me. We have Aké who's going to go on loan but looks like he'll progress well and Chalobah who if anything looks more accomplished. I know they're younger and it isn't prudent to rely on youngsters who haven't proven themselves yet, but the lack of technical skill really makes him seem like he has more to work on. If we're looking to replace an established player in Mikel we should surely be looking at players who can come in right away.

If anything, this might be an Emenalo signing, perhaps? The ones we sign who just have potential and haven't had that big breakthrough yet, loan them out for a year or two and see how they develop. That makes more sense to me than him being a first team player off the bat.

chalobah looks better tbh. kondogbia will line up next to pogba (who would be my first choice) on friday in the u20 world cup against ghana 4pm eurosport for anyone who wants a closer look at him.

not seen much of him my self only bits on revista la liga, but unless we are buying a world class 20 year old like pogba, I think we would be best either signing an older player like de rossi, or putting some faith in chalobah.

we also have loftus-cheek and ake aswell, and if they have successful loan spells they could be knocking on the door of yhe first team this time next week.

I wouldn't say that Chalobah at the moment is more accomplished than Ake, Yes he did play more 1st team football last season but also in a lower league. Ake played quite a lot under Benitez and played pretty decently. So I unless i've slept on some news I don't see why Ake would have to go on loan and Chalobah not. Not saying Chalobah should, I think they should both stay next season as they're both ready to get some first team football.

By quite a lot, you mean 6, he's played 6 times. I wasn't saying either should stay, both should go on loan, but I doubt Ake will get a loan to the Premiership, I don't think he's there yet. Chalobah has proven himself over the course of an entire season and shown that at 17/18 he's ready to step up to the next level. Ake simply hasn't. Maybe accomplished is the wrong word and proven is a better word.

From The Sun ..

"Chelsea are closing in on a £10m move for Seville’s Geoffrey Kondogbia.

First, though, they must unravel a complicated third-party ownership deal involving the company that have just gone into partnership with David Beckham’s advisor.

Kondogbia, 20, is part-owned by the Doyen Group, a firm of private equity investors who have been snapping up some of Europe’s hottest young talents.

Chelsea would have to reach an agreement with the Malta-based company and with Seville to get their hands on the tough-tackling Frenchman.

Third-party ownership deals are permitted in many European countries but are strictly forbidden by the FA and Premier League.

Kondogbia only joined Seville a year ago from Lens in a deal worth about £2.5m.

The Doyen Group stumped up half of that transfer fee and now stand to make a tidy profit on their investment.

They have just received a huge slice of Radamel Falcao’s £51m move to Monaco after helping to finance the striker’s previous move from Porto to Atletico Madrid.

Doyen also own a piece of another of Mourinho’s summer transfer targets, Atletico defender Eliaquim Mangala.

Two months ago, the Spanish investors behind Doyen teamed up with Beckham’s long-term advisor Simon Oliveira to form Doyen Global.

That company has just struck a deal with Barca’s new superstar signing Neymar over his image-rights deal.

Now the FA will be monitoring any moves for Kondogbia, who is currently in Turkey with France’s Under-20 squad.

The powerful youngster has been compared to former King’s Road favourite Claude Makelele and is seen as a reasonably-priced replacement for John Obi Mikel in the midfield holding role."

Looks very one footed from videos. And all the reported attributes would suggest a better centreback, although I wouldn't expect a 20 year old defensive midfielder to be the best technically.

His left-footedness is really maddening. I don't think he passed the ball once with his right foot in either video. Don't want him. His reluctance to use his right foot will cost us a large chunk of our attacking opportunities.

he looks so awkward with the ball at his feet. even the simplest of moves like trapping the ball, dont seem natural to him
