Gus Poyet sacked by Brighton

Featured Replies

It's bloody harsh to sack someone while they are on a live television programme. It sounds like Gus wasn't event informed personally, the BBC production team told him!

What a bloody disgraceful way to treat the man. And we thought Abramovich was callous...

Well said. Unbelievable. Shoddy treatment in the extreme. At least tell the man to his face.

The only thing I've seen which could be relevant is that he was disparaging about whoever sh*t in the Palace dressing room during their playoff match and called for the culprit to be identified and sacked... which seems a perfectly reasonable thing for any decent person to request if you ask me.

Unfortunately Brighton's board didn't ask me...

The way Brighton have handled this is disgusting, but the BBC aren't exactly covering themselves in glory at the moment.

Really horrible to watch.

It's the dressing up of this vendetta as a measured and professionally conducted procedure that makes it so particularly vile. You can tell they've got a lot of HR parasites running the show here.

I seem to remember them doing something very similar on match of the day a while ago.

Can't remember what it was about though, maybe something with Redknapp?

I used to feel a certain amount of pride for the BBC but for the last few years they've been nothing more than an embarrassment. Credit to Poyet, he handled the situation pretty well although he must have been expecting the news (only delivered in a more appropriate setting).

I know Poyet isn't the most popular ex-Chelsea player but it's still a pretty shambolic situation and I feel sorry for him, I'm not not entirely sure what exactly Brighton have sacked him for.

What did he actually do to warrant this long investigation and sack?

Not sure if anyone answered your questions, but rumors have it that Poyet was the guilty participant in a Crystal Palace defecation incident during the Promotional Playoffs :o

I read that it was actually his demanding that Brighton deal with the matter as a serious incident that pissed them off - not that he was responsible.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/may/18/gus-poyet-fuming-excrement-crystal-palace

That was my understanding too - that he fired off a "not impressed with this sh*t, find the person responsible and sack the dirty scumbag" type email which Brighton took umbrage to.

(Yes, you can groan at the terrible pun but it's true!).
