There has been rumours today that Jose Mourinho is looking to sign Benteke as we have lost out on Cavani. I think this is a great move as he is a superb striker and still very young. His asking price could be around £20-£30 million. However, he has only had 1 season in the premier league and is relatively inexperienced to be our lead striker. Also with Lukaku being a few years younger would Benteke hamper his playing time due to age? He would be a great signing and would no doubt improve our squad, and would be encouraged to join by his fellow Belgians at the club. What do you think? Is he too inexperienced? Or do you wish him here as well? 

Him and Lukaku together up front would be a nightmare for any defence. Although we very rarely play 2 strikers so how would the formation be adapted?

Actually, I think everyone with sense knows that guy is a total joke.

I don't think there is any actual interest, just that with Cavani and Gomez off the market, press are struggling to link us with more strikers.

The gain in this deal would be we'd have two different kind of young strikers pushing each other for better performances. But again 4 makes a crowd and the odd one there would be Torres...or Ba.

Disregarding the fact that Villa would never sell their star man after only a season in the PL, unless we offer ludicrous amounts of money, this whole transfer would seem a bit superfluous to me.

 

Why we would pay for an older, maybe just slightly more polished version of Lukaku? Lukaku scored 17 goals and 4 assists last season in 20 starts. Benteke scored 19 and assisted 4 in 32 starts last season. I would hate to see Lukaku on the bench while someone like Benteke is starting.

He's a targetman who knows where the goal is with great potential, but he's hardly cut from the same cloth as our previous targets - Lewandowski, Cavani and Falcao. Lukaku has much more potential IMO and signing Benteke would only further impede his growth, whether he's a big-name forward or not.

 

Having said that, the market for top class strikers is getting smaller and smaller and if worse comes to worse I suppose Benteke would be a decent option.

Are they different? I'm not sure they are, both are direct, powerful strong runners.

You make good points but Benteke doesn't demand a first-team spot in the same way a mega-forward would.

 

Benteke secured those stats being the front-line forward at a big club, and he looked very good to me regardless of those stats.

 

Lukaku was invariably coming off the bench and that's a different ball game.

 

Lukaka may not be ready to be our front-line forward in the Prem and CL, whereas Benteke may be.

 

Long-term, Lukaku will be the better player in all probability, and the advantage of signing Benteke is that Lukaku can push him all the way for that first-team spot, whereas if we were to sign Cavani, Lukaku's chances may be limited, and another young striker may pine for pastures new.

 

I would far prefer we signed Dzeko or Benteke at £25m than signed Cavani for double that amount.

Now, Dzeko I certainly wouldn't be averse to. A poacher like Hernandez would be ideal as well, just to offer us a different dimension compared to Lukaku already possessing many of Benteke's traits.

Not sure why people were so up for Cavani but yet are so bothered about Benteke getting in the way of Lukaku - wouldn't Cavani have done the same?

Anyway, seems a strange one to me, I'd like to see more from him rather than just one season - and Villa wouldn't let him go cheap though obviously we are not talking Cavani cash here.

Saw Castles mentioned Benteke early this morning, I didn't want to believe it. He's a good player, but is he at Chelsea's level? A few strikers came to this league in the past and had good first seasons and that was it. Then again, options are running out.

Move Ba somewhere and just sign up the entire Belgium national team?

Would be a ridiculous signing. 

 

What better way to destroy Lukakus confidence by buying someone incredibly similar to him.
