Assistant Manager?

Featured Replies

I thought Steve Holland and Rui Faria were the assistants?

Are assistant coaches and assistant managers the same thing then? I remember Jose trying to bring his assistant manager from Madrid to Chelsea but he wanted to stay at Madrid.

Oh, I dunno..... Maybe I'm wrong.

I would have thought they would have appointed someone by now if there was going to be an "assistant manager" I just assumed that role was "shared" by the assistant coaches.

I tend to agree Mediator, Robbie would be great .

Have heard rumour that Jose wants to groom Lamps as future manager.

In my opinion that would be brilliant.

How about lampard being player-assistent manager? sounds nice

I think that the first team coach and assistant manager are two different things. Maybe one of Rui Faria or Silvino Louro would have extended duties seeing that Chelsea kept hold of coaches in positions that they normally take up when going to new clubs with Mourinho.

The one, the only, the bolo. Heard he makes cracking cups of tea.

Ballack would make a great assistant manager. Would love to see him back at the club in some form over the next couple of years.

One thing i always envy about United is how well they look after their ex pros. We dont have enough proper Chels in our club.

I was delighted when Robbie was brought in as assistant manager and then Roman went and spoiled it all.

I think I mentioned this in some other thread, I would go for Makelele. A well liked ex-player, a footballing legend and already has experience in the job.

Former Real Madrid assistant coach, Aitor Karanka has decided not to remain with 'Los Blancos' and left the club this Monday. It was a mutual decision, as both parties understood that it was for the best.

Aitor had the full backing of president Florentino Pérez's, but Ancelotti has already put together his coaching staff and Karanka did not want a non-coaching role or any other in which he did not feel comfortable. For this reason, he has put an end to his second stint at Real Madrid, after Mourinho brought him back to the club as his assistant coach during the summer of 2010.

Following Mou's departure, Aitor was waiting for a final decision from both the new manager and the club. Now, Karanka's future looks likely to see him take on his first managerial role, although it has not been ruled out that Mou might find him a place in his backroom staff at Chelsea.

Is there room for anymore backroom staff? I would have thought that if Jose really wanted him then he would have joined when all the others did.

Food for thought: in nearly 30 years, Sir Alex Ferguson/Manchester United have produced barely any successful understudies or managers at the top level. The closest is probably Steve Bruce.

In less than ten years, Mourinho has influenced the likes of Villas-Boas, Rodgers and Steve Clarke.

Steve McClaren was also a Fergie assistant and he got the England job, not saying he's a great manager by any stretch though. I do agree with you Mourinho is amazing at knowing good coaches and moulding them into good managers.
