Who is truly THE GREATEST?

Featured Replies

Ok so i am sitting here going through my Friday when alone ritual of searching Youtube for Chelsea videos, i normally end up re-watching videos of THAT NIGHT IN MUNICH and it got me thinking on achievements alone who would i consider to be our Greatest ever manager, and as much as i love The Special One i would have to list my top three as this.

1. Robbie " Champions League " Only THE Treble beats this. Treble consisting of this plus League and F.A Cup.

2. Carlo " Double "

3. Jose " First league title in my lifetime then backed it up the following season with another "

What does everyone else think?

Sorry if this has been discussed before but i searched first and couldnt find it. If it has the please can a Mod merge it.

I will probably get shouted at but imo Jose is the greatest. Carlo won the title with Jose's team and that core of players who won the champions league was Jose's team, that is why he is the greatest, he built a team that lasted 9 years and still won everything, Carlo and Robbie derserve loads of credit though and I won't try to take anything from them but Jose is so good imo.

Good valid point. So no shouting from me. Infact i like to think that this will be the one thread where : A. No one gets bitched out for their opinion. And B. You know who doesnt get mentioned.

Jose inherited a great squad from Claudio, then tweaked it and took it to the next level. The closest I've seen Chelsea being an unstoppable force was between 2004-2006. Carlo is a close second, though. I love Robbie, but he did it against all odds. His Chelsea team never looked like the well oiled machine that we saw during Jose's prime (so far) years. I love the fact that he managed to lead us to European glory, but as a manager I still rate Jose the highest.

As I would rather win the premier league year in year out then the CL for me it's the first title with Jose. If you had told me in 1994 as I was balling my eyes out after a 4-0 drubbing at Wembley that we would one day win the title I would have told you there was more chance of us going back in time and actually winning that sh*tty game.

When we won that league I actually believed we where the best team in europe, despite scousers coming in 30 points behind us and lucking out.

Got to agree with that. Back in 94 watching that game with my Old man i think we were both buzzing just on the fact that we actually got to the FA cup final, a one off for the 90s never to happen again. Then 97 came along and i actually saw my team win a trophy worth winning at Wembley and the rest remains unfinished or T.B.C as they say on T.V

Winning our first Premiership title under Jose was simply awesome... It felt like such a huge step up from the Chelsea I first knew as a child (back in 1990/91) and it was great to become the best team in England. Was probably even more unbelievable for some of our older supporters.

The only way he could eclipse that, would be winning the domestic and European double being Premiership and European champions.

If hiddink had stayed he might have been always a what if for me however it has to be Jose he built the team the other two won with

john neal, glenn hoddle, luca vialli pre- abramovich era.guus hiddink and obviously jose, during the abramovich era, but i hope he doesn't bore me stiff second time round.

Between Jose and Robbie for me. I think winning the league for the first time in my lifetime was great how ever after all the heart break of the champions league exits over the years it was truly amazing to win it and with a club legend in charge made it all the sweeter.

Playing devil's advocate, but that means the only difference between RDM and Avram would be one missed penalty.

Urgh.

And an FA Cup let's not forget ;)

Well the best manager from me I can only comment from the mid 90s cause that's when I started supporting Chelsea.

Hoddle set us on our way with the start of sexy football etc but I never really liked him as a person

Guillit was a massive favourite of mine, was gutted when he got sacked

Vialli is my favourite pre-Abramovich manager, loved this guy and was even more gutted when he was sacked than I was Guillit

Ranieri I never cared for, he did some good things here but I personally think he didn't fill Vialli's shoes very well

Mourinho is my favourite coach of all time he took us that extra mile and the team we had in the 04-05 season is the best I've ever seen, we are the best team to win the Premier League FACT!

Grant I hated and still do, players carried him

Scolari I knew wouldn't work but I liked him as a person

Hiddink I loved, think we could have achieved great things with him but we'll never know unfortunately

Carlo should never have been sacked, I think he's the one I never understood going, especially as Roman had chased him for years

AVB I hated when he was here and I hate him now. Straight away his attitude in press conferences and such pissed me off

Roberto, legend forever and always but I knew he'd never last in the job as RA didn't want him

Benitez, thanks for the UEFA cup but good riddance
