Ross Barkley

'I like a young player, a young English player,' said Mourinho. 'The market is closed but I asked a question to position myself to see where he was. We are speaking about a very young player but his price was like he has 50 caps when he had none.

'The price for English players is very high, the market is very difficult.'

Mail thinks it's Ross Barkley. Didn't see much of him, but heard he's very good with great potential. What you people think?

Wouldn't be happy spending a lot on him when we have our own English players fighting for slim pickings as it is.

True. I think that young English player should be Luke Shaw.

I'd take him and Luke Shaw in a heartbeat. The pair of them have incredible potential and could MAYBE be long-term replacements for Lampard and Cole.

The trouble with these two is that it seems they are of a rare breed that have their heads screwed on properly. Recognising that there is no substitute for first-team football. Even now for the pair of them we'd have to fork out £50m plus.

I don't know about Shaw. He's a very good player for his age but we don't know if Bertrand won't make it. Hopefully he gets his chances this season and if not, well then, we'll consider Shaw.

Barkley looked great though. Would like to see him here but as someone mentioned above, we have our own players fighting for slim pickings.

Barkley has always looked a decent prospect and he caused us a few problems today.

Everton are getting the rewards for handling a young player correctly. Played a bit, went out on loan, did well now he's back and will just get better and better the more he plays. It's what can happen when you show a bit of faith in youngsters rather than always look to buy the instant answer.

I dont think hes been handled that well at all. Moyes has barely given him a chance, even though he looked like he was ready to contribute. He shouldve played a lot more last season

He was on loan last season. But he's still only 19! He's played a sh*t load of more games than any of our youngsters are ever likely to and now he will really flourish under a coach like Martinez. It will now be a case of Everton being able to hold onto him and if he's git any sense, he will stay and keep improving.

There is a lot more opportunity for it in Everton than us.  Look at how our fans are already writing off Eto'o, Schurrle, even Ramires.  Imagine how ripped a 19 year old would get for missing some sitters or losing the ball to concede a goal and we lost.  That's just the fans.

I rather we seen how it does of a course of the season playing week in week out.The reaction of four PL performances from people such as Jamie Redknapp is really face palming right now.If we are going to buy a young English player i'd rather it was Luke Shaw because my gosh we need a good attacking fullback. Anytime Cole or Ivanovic have the ball in attacking areas i wanna close my eyes.

I think luke shaw is the real deal...always rated ash at the very top defensively, but going forward, he actually rarely provides an assist or a goal...his crossing is very weak...

as for barkley, think he has a lot of talent...but one chat with lukaku would surely make him think twice about joining us...politics rather than ability can determine our team selection these days

I like Barkley too but the over reaction is silly, rather we gave Chalobah a chance.I agree Shaw is the real deal too, very quick and can defend but pretty good going forward too.As you say Cole is poor going forward and the way we play with Fullbacks giving us width its really noticeable.

Pretty sure the player in question is Shaw, though I'd agree Barkley looks quality. Having signed a 5 year contract a fortnight ago I'm pretty sure Chalobah would be well pissed if we signed him, which I don't think will happen anyway.

Maybe that's why Lukaku ended up at Everton? Perhaps doing that piece of business could put us in prime position for Barkley come January or the end of this season? Just a thought

Do they ever get in attacking areas ? :laugh2:

Hazard is usually all alone by himself up against 3 opposing players. Ivanovic is more content to play hoofball from his own half and the occasional crosses he gets in are usually sh*t.

A real classy player but i'd rather him stay at everton and carry on improving than come to chelsea and struggle to get games. Much better for the International side for him to stay there.

If i knew he'd play often i'd take him, but look at Van Ginkels situation. I feel for him

Well yes, they do. Cole provides a great service over lapping on the left and even if he doesn't get the ball it engages a defender.

Van ginkels situation? He's been here 2 months for gods sake. There is no situation.

He has barely done that this season though, and when he does get the opportunity to cross, his delivery is woeful. I think cole as an attacking force has been on a decline for some time. Ivanovic offers more than cole going forward now. I hope bertrand gets more games this year, as I think we will struggle to get the best out of hazard until we offer a real attacking threat from left back.

marcelo and alaba do a fantastic job of allowing ronaldo and ribery space to create chances, and cut inside.

Can you honestly say cole does the same for hazard?

Yeah of course they do, with Hazard,Mata and Schurrle all coming inside and roaming they stay out wide and give us width. Ivanovic for example got in the box plenty of times against Hull.I dont mind Ivanovic to much because hes more of a CB and is a real threat from set pieces. Azpi decent going forward but im hoping Wallace does well because hes the type of attacking full back i want. But Ashley Cole pretty useless as an attacking full back, cant dribble, shoot or cross. Defensively still pretty good though.

Who is he going to get in ahead of.

Oscar? Mata? De Bruyne? Hazard? Willian?

lol.

I see Barkley more as centre midfield player than a number 10.
