The John Obi Mikel Goal Scoring Thread

Featured Replies

Can people not have an opinion on Mikel without being accused of lack of respect ? You know what, i think he's pretty rubbish too, that isn't me being disrespectful, i just don't think he is a good footballer. A good person who get's on with his work without any fuss and that's great, but i don't think he is a very good player.

People always talk about how much Mikel has won at Chelsea when they try and point out how good he is, well Park Ji Sung must have been a World Class player for United then because he won a lot of trophies too.

I hate all this scapegoat crap that get's thrown around as well. Nobody singles out Chelsea players when we have been poor just because they are looking for someone to blame, they just point out how poor they have been. I seen people get accused of treating Mikel, Ramires, David Luiz and Torres like a scapegoat at times but it's not that at all, they just don't perform well enough for us so people point it out.

I guarantee if Mikel was playing for another club nobody on here would be saying he is a good player or begging us to sign hm.

::clap2::

Mikel came on at the end of a game, lost the ball once the entire time he was on the field.

Post match thread someone moaned about how many times mikel lost the ball.

People go over the top.

I'm actually surprised no one has claimed he only passes backwards in the past few pages.

I think the problem alot of people have with Mikel is he doesn't do much, he doesn't score goals very often, doesn't get a whole lot of assists but he's decent at what he does. Howver, he's nowher near as good as Makelele was before him and deosn't offer enough in a side that wants to consistently win the league. Just my 2 cents, time to move him on for me.

My issue with Mikel is he hasnt improved (in my opinion). We signed him as a promising young player and he hasnt gone on to be anything special. He is a coaster. You look at Frank Lampard, when we signed him he was also a promising young player but every year he would work on parts of his game and become better and better each and every season.

Yeah I think that's spot on tbh

Although in Mikel's defence was it our fault? I mean when we signed him he wasn't a defensive midfielder and we converted him to that position. Maybe that was a mistake.

I think the problem a lot of people have is they are nowhere as knowledgeable as the management of Chelsea are,

so they talk their tosh language, and if the management took notice of that tosh they would soon be out of a job.

the same management that bought torres and shevchenko, and sold sturridge to the dippers . . .

Lane the Management are  still light years ahead of you, those buys all had Romans identity over them

Mourinho did one of those, though consensus is he didn't even want sheva.

mourinho also bought kezman, swp, boulahrouz . . . and let robben go

bottom line is, everyone makes mistakes, and if you answer every critique with the old 'football professionals know more than you' then theres no point in discussing football

I'm not a Mikel fan, on the positive he could have games like Chp Lge Final where he has a great game. He can keep the ball close and protect it, but on the down side can get tackled easily. He is not blessed with pace and had started to get booked which in his position is risky. Also if playing with two holding players and go one nil down his worth in the team is reduced as when we need to chase a game he can't affect game. Even going forward takes to many touches and slows game down and once someone goes past him he can't chase back and intercept. I'm sure other people will disagree, but spoken with many that agree.

Robben wanted to leave.

Makes you wonder if the people who moan about Jose letting him go were even watching Chelsea then doesn't it?

He also didn't sign Malouda to replace him as people often say also he wanted them to play together but Robben wanted out.

Why on earth would him being black make him look like he is doing something that he is not doing?

I deliberately left that unclarified to stir the pot

The reason I say that is because his appearance lends itself to a certain stereotype of player as an African midfielder. People make snap judgments assuming he is athletic and defensively-capable purely based on his appearance (what he ought to be) even when the observed statistical evidence provides stark contrast (what he actually shows). By way of comparison, Mikel Arteta (lol) who many consider to be a luxury player makes nearly more than twice as many tackles per game than Mikel does.

I hope with Romeu's contract extension that he gets an opportunity to stake a place ahead of Mikel, he had a very promising start before his injuries.

Arteta hasn't been anything close to a luxury player for at least five years, and if you don't believe me he makes more tackles per game than Matic too!

Also for what it's worth, around half of Mikel's appearances last season were off the bench, which skews his 'stat per game' scores as he wasn't playing 90 minutes. In addition, we have to bear in mind that he usually came on to defend a lead, which would skew his tackles per game stat in particular, as he wouldn't be particularly pressed to win the ball.

so this guy only plays when we are defending a lead, and hes not even defending.

well, maybe he makes it up with his 'great' positioning so he has a higher number of interceptions. oh wait, just checked, he doesnt.

i know, its the 'intangibles' he brings to the team. the stuff only the finest football minds can see, right?

poor defender that offers nothing in attack. is anyone really surprised there are no teams that are interested in signing him?
