July 15, 201412 yr Mikel is 27? I thought he was still 25 or something. You know what, I like the guy. I would actually miss having him around.
July 16, 201412 yr Letting Mikel go for 4M would be an insult to the man. If anything else, there's always Mikel to blame when we lose games, that worth more than 4M.
July 16, 201412 yr The only way he leaves is if he let him go for free and also pay a part of his wages till 2017.
July 16, 201412 yr The only way he leaves is if he let him go for free and also pay a part of his wages till 2017. To quote Holly from Red Dwarf. "You just made that up to sound cool".
July 16, 201412 yr No other team in the world has a better second let alone third-choice defensive mid. Let him stay.
July 16, 201412 yr The lack of respect shown to Mikel here is downright disgusting. He's won 3 Premier leagues, a Champions league, 4 FA cups and a few other minor trophies since he joined. He works hard, he doesnt complain, you dont here him in the Media shouting his mouth off. Respect.

You know what, i think he's pretty rubbish too, that isn't me being disrespectful, i just don't think he is a good footballer. A good person who get's on with his work without any fuss and that's great, but i don't think he is a very good player. People always talk about how much Mikel has won at Chelsea when they try and point out how good he is, well Park Ji Sung must have been a World Class player for United then because he won a lot of trophies too. I hate all this scapegoat crap that get's thrown around as well. Nobody singles out Chelsea players when we have been poor just because they are looking for someone to blame, they just point out how poor they have been. I seen people get accused of treating Mikel, Ramires, David Luiz and Torres like a scapegoat at times but it's not that at all, they just don't perform well enough for us so people point it out. I guarantee if Mikel was playing for another club nobody on here would be saying he is a good player or begging us to sign hm. Edited July 16, 201412 yr by Scott Harris
July 16, 201412 yr I cant see how £4 mil for Mikel even with removing his wages makes any sense for us, it'd be worth keeping him to the end of his contract for that, he has virtually no FFP impact only £3.9 mil a year. There is no way we'd be able to get like for like for that money. He's worth 3x that to most clubs. Im not saying he's world class but £12mil for a proven CL winner, in comparison to Alex Song who is touted at £20mil or Lallana for £25mil. Regardless of the fact we dont need him, have underused him, It'd be getting rid of him to appease a vocal minority of the clubs fans. The only thing is though, maybe its what HE wants. At his age, especially when played "out of position" I think he'd want more games and in his preffered position higher up. I say if thats the case, it shouldnt be about money and we part on good terms. Reduce your wage demands so we get a fair price for you and sell him. If not id be more than happy to see him stay as back up.

Its not such a scapegoat style thing in my opinion. He's a certain type of player and only that, its unusual. But then you have people wanting rid of the man for 4 million after 10 years of service because he doesnt do a rabona, or some stepovers before making the pass. He sits deep, provides cover, and does the job he is required to do. For that he deserves respect, and calling him rubbish is quite disrespectful also.

July 17, 201412 yr Can people not have an opinion on Mikel without being accused of lack of respect ? I guarantee if Mikel was playing for another club nobody on here would be saying he is a good player or begging us to sign hm. A few points in reply: First, no-one has ever said on these boards that you can't have or put forward your opinion on Mikel or any other player so that prepositional statement is somewhat unhelpful to begin with wouldn't you agree? If one is of the view that Mikel is not good enough in respect to what he is asked to do on the field then, and albeit that some may not agree, then there is nothing at all wrong with putting that point of view. And that point of view has been quite regularly put on here for years has it not? Accordingly, the only issue that some of us cavil with on occasion concerning Mikel is that some of those who put forward the view that he is not good enough etc. sometimes go too far in their comments concerning the player or unduly hyperbolise or over-exaggerate: ie. Mikel is sh*t or rubbish or words to that effect or other equally unfair ad hominem remarks. When it is pointed out to these posters that those incendiaries are unhelpful to the development of any discussion on the issue, one is usually the recipient of further ad hominem attacks and/or the original poster in question rather than conceding that they've been a bit over the top in their characterisation of Mikel, defensively retreat into meaningless banalities such as questioning why they're not allowed to have or voice an opinion etc. (in circumstances where they already have). The irony of this scenario is repetitively depressing if not immediately obvious to the original poster. To say that Mikel is: (i) "not a good footballer"; (ii) "pretty rubbish"; (iii) "not a good player", flies in the face of the fact that he plays for one of the leading clubs in one of the leading leagues of football on the planet. That is to say if he is not a good footballer, or is in fact rubbish etc. why is he continually played? It is tantamount to saying that the person who puts him on the team-sheet and allows him to play has not got a clue or is a fool. Are you saying that Jose or Carlo before him etc. is a fool? Are you saying that you know better? If you are of the view (which you are) that Mikel does not perform well enough for us in his position & you are of the view that we would be better with someone else - there is absolutely nothing wrong with having that opinion and expressing it in that way: but why are the added exaggerations or over the top statements/incendiaries thrown in as well? It just comes across as immature & unhelpful and looks like one has anger issues. Edited July 17, 201412 yr by youlots
July 17, 201412 yr Why would you hear Mikel in the media complaining? He's in a team well beyond his level, winning things while contributing very little and getting paid a massive wage to do so.

He looks like he does, because he's tall, black and plays short passes. His game and his performances don't fit the stereotype that people desperately want him to be/

July 17, 201412 yr What an odd statement! Mine?? or SydneyChelsea's? Must be his - you couldn't find mine odd, surely!
July 17, 201412 yr Better get the facts right, 3 PL titles ? 2? he joined in between the back to back ones then I assume. Oh let one error take away from a long time servant of the club. Good job. The problem is he doesn't. He looks like he does, because he's tall, black and plays short passes. His game and his performances don't fit the stereotype that people desperately want him to be/ wut

July 17, 201412 yr I tend to agree with what Scott Harris has said as well and am surprised he got a bit of stick for it. I don't see any lack of respect towards the player. Otherwise im not throwing my oar in anymore about Mikel, ive been saying the same things for over 8 years now and its gone beyond groundhog day.
