Chelsea v Southampton (PL) 1/12/13 KO 16:10 GMT

Alright lads, we're gonna have to really bounce back from this defeat and show that it hasn't affected the team. Hoping Mata gets a chance here. Will be very tough indeed.

Soton like to press hard so I don't think Lampard will have the legs for this game. I'd play...

Torres

Schurrle Mata Hazard

Ramires Mikel

Bertrand/Cole Terry Cahill Azpi

Cech

I don't think Mata will start this game. Jose will probably let us soak up Southampton pressure and try and hit on the counter, which means no Juan.

Lampard, Ivanovic, Oscar, Cahill, Ramires all out for me please.

Luiz, Mata, Torres, Hazard, Willian, Mikel, Essien and Cole all to return.

Stop alienating Mata and De Bruyne, other choices haven't worked out, bring them in, I think they've waited long enough.

I'm afraid that Mata is a lost cause, Jose won't risk him getting injured as it might affect his price tag come January.

I'm not going to be a happy-chappy if I see Lampard on the starting XI again this weekend. I feel filthy saying that of SFL but it's sadly gotten to that point.

Absolutely must win this, Southampton are no pushovers this season and we cannot allow Arsenal to sail away at the top.

We definitely need an energetic team for this one in order to counter Southampton's high line. We need to be assured at the back with the ball at our feet as they will press us well, so for me Luiz is a must.. For those two reasons, my team would read something like this:

Cech

Azpi-Terry-Luiz-Bertrand/Cole

---------------Mikel----------------
----Ramires------Oscar/De Bruyne
Mata---------------------Hazard/Willian
-----------Torres(Pumped)--------

Got to freshen things up a bit here. Definitely think we should have Oscar or De Bruyne sitting as a 8 rather than 10 to allow to control the midfield (that doesn't mean we need the ball), just the necessary numbers. There will be plenty of space in behind and hopefully Mata can then pick the right passes for the pacey/energtic players in Ramires,  Hazard/Willian and hopefully Torres.

Fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

3-1 Chelsea.

Cech

Ivan Cahill Terry Cole/Dave

Mikel Ramires

Shurrle Mata Hazard

Eto'o/Torres

If Mata isn't given his chance now, he never will.

It would be a mistake to make too many changes purely because we need toget some consistency going but if I could pick the team I'd try something like:

-----------------cech----------------

Azpi------Cahill----Terry--Cole

------Ramires----De Bryune-----

Shuurle-----oscar--------Hazard

--------------Torres----------------

Subs

Shwarzer

Luiz

Mikel

Lampard

Willian

Mata

Ba

Any signs of tiredness in training or the game itself would leave obvious changes Mata/Oscar  Willian/Hazard Luiz/Cahill, the first two being  likely changes bar injury after the  sixty minute mark.

I'd love to have the chance to watch some training sessions and have a real opinion on why certain things are not tried, why players are not selected or played in different positions but without that chance its hard to argue against the managers choices as he sees all of it and he knows exactly what he wants from them.

Im going on sunday with Mr Stoner and hope that it is the day that we all witness a Chelsea shake up. We all know that were carrying a fair bit of dead weight at the minute. We have an abundance of skillful talent who all can play behind the CF, we need to start using them. December is make or break time for us and as sad as i feel saying it unless we start to replace the old guard NOW we could end up on our arses come the end of the season.

What I want to see and what will happen are probably two very different things, after a performance like last night I would ring the changes:

                 Cech

Dave - Luiz - Terry - Bertrand

                  Mikel

         Ramires - Oscar

Mata            Torres          Hazard

4-3-3 but with Oscar playing in deeper and doing the job Lampard had against West Ham, I know Jose isn't likely to drop anyone into the midfield at the expense of Frank but it's becoming the elephant in the room and something needs to happen.

Ivan to miss a game because his poor service from right back is getting tiresome, great defender but so many moves are breaking down because of him.

Mata to come because the ball retention was so poor last night he is someone who is going to get their foot on the ball and keep it, as much as I like Willian and Schurrle they are the sorts of players where if they are trying to run at defenses and it doesn't come off we lose the ball too easily and I think we should be looking to keep the ball as much as possible in this game.

Luiz in for Cahill because the defense was getting pulled all over the place last night and Cahill was extremely wasteful with the ball.

^ Don't think we can afford to play Luiz when we sit back, especially with the way Southampton press high up. Rest looks spot on though but like you say, doubt it will happen. It will most likely just be the same team.

In an ideal world I would like us to take the game to Southampton, with a three man midfield and Mikel in the anchor you could have him press forward and Mikel drop back when needed, have a more fluidity to the team and not look so rigid.

3-1 Chelsea or 1-3 Saints, in other words I ain' t got a clue. But tell you one thing, we are lucky to have such a strong squad to choose from, and if Lampard starts then I will be very perplexed.

Once saw us lose 2-6 home to saints, but witnessed once of Ossie's all time great goals, the whole team ran to congratulate him led by Harris...and that made the score 1-3 !!

Fair play to having Luiz there guys. I was actually quite close to putting him in there for very similar reasons but putting him in a big game after weeks of not being there, combined with the fact that in general our defence hasn't been great so we need as much reliability as we can (and we know Luiz had problems), as well as him just returning from injury anyways made me put Cahill in there instead.

I've altered my lineup for now.

Azpi Terry Luiz Bertrand

Mikel

Ramires KDB

Mata Willian/Hazard

Torres

Similar to ForeverCarefree and the same as mac. Think De Bruyne should go there because he's certainly got the composure and he did well there last season. I'm not 100% certain about on the wing although him (along with Willian) would drift in more centrally often so I guess it's fine. Willian over Schurrle because I feel he can take on players better and has greater retention -- not to mention a great deal of pace (not saying Schurrle or Hazard don't) to deal with them. Hazard works superbly with Mata and has done well these few games recently.

Terry is the only guy right now who I think deserves to be in the side with no problem (and Cech as well tbh), so he stays with Luiz. Hoping the latter is focusing this game.

What I'd like:

Cech

Bertrand (if fit, otherwise Cole)

Terry

Cahill

Azpilcueta

Ramires

Oscar

Hazard

Mata

Shurrle

Torres

What I expect:

Cech

Azpilcueta

Terry

Cahill

Ivanovic

Ramires

Lampard

Hazard

Oscar

Shurrle

Eto'o (if fit, otherwise Torres)

how scary has us v southampton become........i love teams like this ie southampton ,, west brom,,, doing well...the fans of these types of clubs deserve respect for following their respective clubs around the country generally achieving nowt.....problem is, i dont fancy this one at all at the moment
