Eusebio has gone to the celestial pitch

Featured Replies

Eusebio was one of those players I used to read about in Goal magazine, regularly compared to Pele. Only saw him a few times actually playing but from memory was a great who had presence on and  off the pitch. RIP.

It is truly sad to hear of the legendary older players deaths, never saw him play but if Jose rated him, that is good enough. R.I.P.

One of the first players whose name I knew - I used to think it was so exotic sounding (not to mention only one name!).  RIP to a great player.

It really brings it home to you when the greats depart us, he was brilliant and another of the names we used to shout when we were kids.

RIP to a great footballer and man.

Only saw bits and pieces on grainy tv pictures but he looked an incredible player.

"Eusebio had a special affinity with the Merseyside public cos he scored at Goodison in the 66 World Cup"

Dunn is a scouser, and an idiot.

A long way before my time, but a footballer that I've always heard and read about, always been attracted to him footballingwise, I wish I could watch him play and learn from him. Add my attraction to Black Panther's and he makes quite an interesting hero.

A legendary player, may he live long after.

Another dive! !!!

It's a very convincing one in that case, although I think the whole "being dead" thing is taking it a bit too far.

(Rest in peace, Eusebio)

RIP - the ideal modern striker, years before his time. Not in the very top bracket of Di Stefano, Maradona, Pele, Messi etc. but right below with the likes of Platini and Puskas for me. For those of you who haven't watched him here's a taste of some of his exploits in 1966.

If anyone is playing it by ear with Eusebio I strongly encourage them to see the Football's Greatest clip as it provides a better all-round profile with input from the likes of Pele and Bobby Charlton, who both faced him a fair few times.

The venom, power and accuracy of his shots was just something else, as was that sixth gear he could draw upon.
