Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

That first touch for his goal, the chest down with the ball coming behind him over his shoulder, was sublime.

That open goal miss when he was offside though, Torres-esque  :laugh2:  :laugh2:  :laugh2:

he was bad today...especially in the second half...in the first half he at least ran a decent amount

but then he does that....it feels good having a striker who can be anonymous all game and still get a goal

Its great that we have a striker who can have a poor game yet still manage to score a goal like that when the chance comes.

Not if you count the offside one.

If he was offside then no it doesn't count.

Not a brilliant all round display but when a chance presented itself he had the touch and class to finish.

Phenomenal player.

Thing is he had both CB's chasing him around all game. Notice last season whenever Hazard had the ball, he'd have both the full back and a centre back closing him down, he has so much more room thanks to Costa's mere presence now and that massively influenced the game.

Agree with the above comment from Jonty in that Costa's presence alone is helpful to our creative midfielders and it really gives Hazard, Fabregas and Oscar the room to operate. If he doesn't score himself then that means he's still creating chances for his team mates by just being there, we didn't have that with Torres and is exactly what we've been missing.

Tell you what though, Real Madrid and Barcelona must be thrilled to see the back of him in La Liga as he was an utter nightmare for them with Atletico.

Probably his poorest showing in our colours today but still managed to score that wonderful chip, that's what world class players do.

Absolute goal machine.

Pity now we have internationals :(

If he carries on like this is there a chance he will win world player of the year ?

He was the main reason why Atletico Madrid won La Liga, and them winning was a hell of an achievement. They are the first team to stop Barcelona and Real Madrid in a decade.

He is also the main reason why they got to the Champions League final. If he wasn't injured i think they would have won it.

Now he has come here and looks like he has been playing in the Premier League for years. He's got a chance surely. It's getting boring being all about Messi and Ronaldo every season. I personally think Diego Costa has had a better year than those 2.

He appeared to be tight on a couple of occasions earlier in the match. His stride was short and he was hobbling a bit, but then he looked completely fine on a couple long runs at the end.

I'm disappointed that Roy has never heard of Nathan Dyer.

Disappointed that Liverpool have pulled Sturridge out of internationals, yet Costa is free for a call up.

If he refused then he would get a 3 game club ban. Ribery has retired from international duty but if the France national team wanted to call him up he can do nothing about it without getting a ban. So basically you can't actually retire from international football unless you quit football altogether.

Personally i don't see what harm it would do to Spain to leave Diego Costa out of their next 2 games. I don't see them having any trouble facing Slovakia or Luxembourg. Surely they want a fully fit player themselves right ?

Does he have to go and play for Spain?

If England were facing tougher opposition i wonder if Hodgson would force Sturridge to join up with England.

It irritates me that it's even their decision- it should be our medical and fitness staff's call, not theirs or their managers.

Costa wasn't brilliant individually but tactically he was incredible. As a few others pointed out here, he managed to harass and occupy their CBs almost by himself, he snuck out to the wing to draw them wide and the best thing about this positioning was that it allowed Hazard to recieve the ball facing goal many times. Unbelievably smart player.

In principle I agree however that is assuming honesty by club medics, something you could never rely on. Consequently I agree that the international medics should be allowed to assess players.

What a finish that was, his best finish so far since he has came to the club.

It's a good job he did score against Arsenal as well, I could imagine people bringing up the typical bull sh*t like 'Oh he only scores against small teams'.

Or maybe he still does score against small teams  :laugh2:

Absolute monster of a player no other striker on the planet of his type I can think of in the world at the moment. Feels great to finally have a clinical striker again!

Costa obviously enjoys playing for Spain or else he would sit this one out, and on the bright side he's with Cesc and Azpi and it can't hurt to train with Iniesta.
