Filipe Luis to Chelsea... and Back Again.

Featured Replies

If they couldn't afford it, they shouldn't have signed the clause.

The chances are they might not have played him, the clause might have been inserted as a way of Chelsea not wanting the conflict of interests to arise like with loans between Premier League clubs.

As I said before it was only through UEFA intervention that they basically blackmailed us into allowing Courtois to play by saying the clause was illegal and any attempt to uphold it could be met with our expulsion from the competition.

Its all well and good naming names but who is to say that if we went for another one of those names their team wouldnt slap a 20 million price tag on the player?

Moreno has a 21 million euro buy out... he's alot younger and still a quality player. Luis is definitely better now but Moreno isnt far off.

I think it's 21 million pounds isn't it? Liverpool had a bid of 16.5m rejected which is nearly 21m million euros.

I think he is over priced. I like rodriguez but he will also cost a lot, and I quite like the look of rojo from Argentina, although I've only seen him in the world cup.

F*ck it, just leave Dave at left back and bring back Bertrand or PVA as cover, no way should we let these ungrateful greasers get away with holding us to ransom like this, they should be begging us to take Luis for £10M, cheeky barstewards.

He's only quality going forward -- so good going forward that he may in the future work better as a winger rather than a LB. He's ok defensively; there may be a possibility of developing his defensive game but atm looks as if he's more of a winger

Shaw is better than him defensively too, and if we didn't go for him than I doubt we'd be too keen on Moreno (yes prices come into it as well but still)

He was good, hard to work how good though.

I think he kept messi pretty quiet- does that single game give him a starting lineup for cfc.....yep!

He would be factastic for hazard, solid defensively but has pretty amazing left boot

One game does not a player make, I remember boulahrouz marking ronaldinho out of a game once.

Given he has 1 year left on his deal, is close to hitting 30 and wants to leave, 12mill is a fair price and covers the cost of the replace Atletico signed.

Apparently Kroos may leave Bayern for 20mill given he has 1 year left on his deal, so in perspective of that 12mill sounds reasonable for Luis imo.

But if Atletico want him to leave for nothing and we sign on a free next year, that is their choice. Really hope we keep it as a take it or leave it situation.

I've liked luis for years now, i really hope this happens, he's such a well rounded left back and it's a travesty that he was left out of the brazil world cup squad, he doesnt have the flair of marcelo but he delivers a mean ball into the box and is much more reliable defensively

Hope we don't budge, there are other options out there. I'd be happy with the signing but I don't want us to be dragged over a barrel.

Chelsea have reportedly made an improved £15 million bid to sign Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid after Ashley Cole agreed a two-year contract with Roma.

The Premier League club had already had a £12m offer rejected, according to the Times, but Luis is top of manager Jose Mourinho's wanted list and the need for a replacement for Cole growing after the possibility of signing Luke Shaw disappeared when he moved from Southampton to Manchester United.

However, Atletico are not said to be holding firm on their £19m asking price for the Brazilian, which is thought to be the value of his buyout clause.

Sporting Lisbon's Marcus Rojo and Sevilla's Alberto Moreno have also been reportedly sounded out as potential replacements for Cole, although Liverpool also hold interest in the pair.

Mourinho is thought to have presented a selection of players to Chelsea's board but Luis remains his preferred candidate and Atletico's stubborn insistence on buyout clauses is a hurdle the club look like they will have to try to negotatie for the second time this summer.

All the La Liga club's players have buyout clauses in their contracts, The Times reports, and, with growing interest in their key players being greeted by discontent in Madrid, they are expected to take a similar approach to the one they adopted for the sale of Diego Costa.

Don't budge Chelsea, if they play hard ball then move to another target.

Make them sweat
