I always thought lampard was a bit inflated based on his amazing ability to score. He never really broke out and was world class like a xavi or ronaldinho. Top class player mind you reminds me a bit of Dennis Wise in his cult appeal.

I think this post is fair enough, we love Frank and don't understand why more people don't see it. The truth is, more people don't see it. It's a strange one and I think that's the point being made, he's always been underrated outside of Chelsea.

What made Xavi world class and Lampard not ? Personally i think Lampard in his prime could do anything Xavi could do and more.

Two different players, Lampard always got himself on the highlights and scored some belters, where Xavi wasn't the type to do that. But I think he's certainly always been the better footballer than Frank in my opinion.

You've been bitter at Frank since he scored against us. I personally doubt you are being objective here...

That said, Lampard has always been very underrated here. Never got the praise he deserved. Gerrard however still gets praised weak in weak out. And I'm not even going to start talking about Xavi and Iniesta.

What does any of that even mean?

The classic Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes debate. I'm going to use a cake analogy to convey the role of these three players.

Scholes is the cake itself. Without him the whole thing just doesn't work. He is essential for a well run team. Though nowhere near the same player, how Ranieri described Makelele is most fitting. He is the battery in every clock.

Lampard is the icing and cherry. He takes the cake to the next level. He adds that something extra that the cake alone can't produce to make it a more convincing product, but he is nothing without the cake itself.

Gerrard is the idiot who slips and drops the cake right before serving.

Are you f**king joking me, it's a f**king opinion stop being a cry a baby about it, it's not like I said Frank Lampard is sh*te is it and Xavi is miles ahead of him.

I really rate Xavi, the Barcelona era 2-3 years ago was phenomenal and they where fantastic to watch, just unplayable it can't be denied and Xavi was the heart and soul of that team the trio with Iniesta Messi and Xavi was unstoppable.

Now Lampard is what? One of the best players we have ever had at this club if not the best? Lampard in his prime was quality it can't be denied. I think if you put Gerrard in his prime and Lampard in his prime Lampard is quite a distance ahead because I do geuiniely believe that Gerrard is a very overrated player and that is not being bitter or bias I just believe that. I think his technical abillity is very overrated, he gets compared to the likes of Pirlo and Xavi and I think it's laughable, he's like a schoolboy footballer when it comes to those two.

As for Lampard he is a different player entirely anyway but in his prime he had just about everything in his locker and was not only exciting on the ball but very exciting off the ball.

Also DKW go take your f**king hating nonsense elsewhere, if you want to give me a blow job mate just ask, don't play that hating game, I'm starting to get offended.

Who needs RAWK meltdown when you've got Slawth meltdown.

I'll just give you that like you are so desperate for, congratulations.

What irks me about the public opinion on Scholes is how dramatically it has changed over the last few years, coincidentally since he's retired. I never read or heard about how he was a midfield genius 10-15 years ago when he was in his prime, in fact he was usually one of the least mentioned United players and was such an afterthought that he got shifted on the wing to accommodate two younger players (Lampard/Gerrard).

I don't see how a midfielder who is probably one of the worst tacklers in modern history can be seriously considered to have been one of the best in his position in the world. There were far more complete players both on his own team and many other teams in central midfield. His sudden rise to prominence seems to have come about from comments made by Xavi about him, which is ironic because he is also an overrated one dimensional player.

I suppose these type of players are the flavour of the month.

Come on Scholes was excellent both as an attacking midfielder and as a deeper play maker. He stopped getting talked about between 2003-2006, the period in his playing days when Man United were at their worst and a time when he was in transition for his position.

Also when you look at Scholes, it's the longevity which is impressive. He was an important component for a title contender and perennial Champions for about 17 years. Lampard was that for a maximum of 10 years and Gerrard has been involved in 3 title races in his career.

The problem England had with these three is none of them could defend, but Sven ditched the best one for the flavour of the month. The best England team from around 2003-2008 would have been a midfield of

Hargreaves- Scholes

Lampard

Still seems a bit lightweight defensively

So you don't think Lampard in his prime was world class then ?

And what could Xavi do that Lampard couldn't do ?

Instead of just saying what i said was bizarre how about giving me a reason why it's bizarre ?

Frank has been the world class and a nifty player. A genuine gentleman who represented Chelsea and England immaculately. It pains me to watch him playing with those thugs of Citeh.

ForeverCarefree doesn't need me to defend him BUT you're wrong: he's a top poster.

As a rule, this forum does not resort to personal insults (i.e. banter aside) or to crudeness. Fair enough, I'm not even a CFC fan but this forum is very good and you making this a crude, personal, fight, is a bad thing.

It's a discussion about football...
