RDM won the CL. We all were extremely happy then. He played to win at the time. His type of football is not dignified for Chelsea. Just watch his park the bus tonight.

I and I think the vast majority of fans would take winning ugly over losing prettily 10 times out of 10, leave the talk of aesthetics to Arsenal.

Amputechture, I don't want to stick my big sky blue hooter into your mobs business but having just seen your avatar can I ask why isn't there the big emotional re-union feel about this Schalke v Chelsea game, I remember the hype when you lot played Galatasaray, Just a bit surprised there doesn't seem to be the same here, The guy won you your first Champions League trophy.

Would help if it was at the bridge but alas, we have been denied that opportunity by unfortunate timing.

Of course winning is needed. But Roman invested millions and I am certain he does not want to see parking garage on the pitch.

What a load of bollocks.

What a load of bollocks.

Agreed, Pete you don't half come out with some stupid sh*t at times.

Did RDMs West Brom team or even his Chelsea team play like that? We had a few matches in Europe where we did but not the league at all. Plus the season after up until our crash we were playing some of the best football we have ever played.

We were playing great football at the start of the 12/13 season. We played defensively against one of the best footballing teams of all time - not a huge shock.

I'm as surprised as you are to be honest. I hope the away fans give him the reception he deserves.

Seconded – Robbie did what needed to be done to win us that CL, yes the starts where aligned but in boxing terms you don’t stand there and have a war with a banger. You absorb what he can throw at you and counter punch (Ali v Forman) Robbie put in place the perfect game plan given what we had available to us and what the opposition had anything else would have been suicide.

When he got Hazard and Oscar we were actually playing some great football but got shafted a bit with the united game. This might have actually been his undoing because he tried to make the transition too quickly from backs to the wall organisation to some free flowing stuff.

I didn’t think he was the best candidate for the job even when we won the CL but he made it impossible not to give it to him and in my opinion there was ever a reason to sack him at that point. We had some bad breaks but all in all things still looked good for the season….

The only way I can reason it is that Roman had made his mind up Jose was coming home and that he wanted to make it that extra bit special so gave us the Repulsive useless one for the remainder of the season (but that really is giving to much credit)

Gutting if true, he was starting to look a really solid player and it's sad if he's made such a silly mistake.

Hopefully he keeps his head screwed on because he looks like he could develop into a tidy little player.

Anyone else think Ramsey has had the worst dip in form from last season?

More that for those 3 short months he played above and beyond what he is normally capable of.

His good form was the anomaly.

Not "dignified". Seriously? How plastic can you get. "We were all happy then" Because we won. The implication being that you weren't happy at the way we won, Which entailed beating Bayern in their own back yard, with the odds massively stacked against us, as a result of injuries and suspensions to key players. John Terry was out to name but one, and Ryan Bertrand filled in magnificently to make his Champions League debut.

Robbie played the game that was necessary under those circumstances, not because that was his preferred style of play. Imagine if you can, if the circumstances had been reversed, if the final been at Stamford Bridge against a seriously under-strength Bayern side. Would you have expected him to adopt a similar game plan?

"Dignified". f**k's sakes.

Under RDM, Chelsea's results were acceptable. His style of play wasn't. Nothing more to question.

Winning the Champions League and FA Cup is acceptable?

Frankly, fans like you deserve to go through a relegation season or three. No I'm not coming the old soldier here, merely that if you'd been through a few of the more difficult times with the club, then you might just have a more realisitic persepective.

Tell you what, here's an independent view of Robbie's style of play, Alan Hanson:

Chelsea under manager Roberto Di Matteo are like Arsenal - winning nothing other than admirers

Just as Chelsea face the biggest week of their season, with crucial games in the Champions League and Premier League looming, they are discovering that playing eye-catching football does not always guarantee results when it matters.

Even when things were going well for Roberto Di Matteo’s team earlier this season, they were vulnerable against opponents because of the attacking nature of their formation.

The team lacks balance at the moment because it is too heavily-weighted with players whose first instinct is to go forward — a direct contrast to the Chelsea team which won the Champions League last season.

The very opposite of the "parking the bus" you accuse him of. If your previous posts are anything to go by, you could almost imagine that you've taken the most negative reviews available of the final in Munich and used them to make an assessment of Robbie Di Matteo's entire time as Chelsea manager.

Edited by Lofty.

Winning any trophy is admirable. I was very happy. Winning the CL, the best competition for clubs, is something to cherish and admire for the rest of my life. I look at football games and want to see a great play. Defensive struggle is something I can do without.

There is more to question:

Did you see us at the start of 12/13. Apart from Carlo's double season that was the most fluid attacking football we've played since Abramovich took over. I could watch that Mata goal from Hazard's pass continually. In the top 3 team goals of recent memory with that Drogba team goal at Bolton and the one vs Burnley.

Speaking of Tottenham. 5-1 at Wembley? Ok most of our league performances in 11/12 were a bit meh, but I think on the whole he improved the side from AVB and even Carlo's second season.

RDM pretty much got sacked because of his inadequate previous managerial experience. But ask yourself this:

Would AVB still have been Chelsea manager if he had not been sacked and won the champions league.

The answer is yes and we were playing some ugly stuff under him

Under RDM, Chelsea's results were acceptable. His style of play wasn't. Nothing more to question.

Stop talking crap Pete

Other than the Barca games and the Final we played some wonderfuk football. Fast forward to the season after we were blitzing teams until that dodgy United home match. Are you forgetting that we out Arsenaled Arsenal in their own back yard? Bet Spurs 4-2 at the Lane plus various others. Di Matteo is not a negative tactics guy.

Ifs or buts, I don't know how to respond to.

You're on a windup, surely? You won't take other Chelsea fans word for the way we played under Robbie, or even an independent assessment that our problem was an overwhelming urge to attack.

If you don't know how to respond to a question about an alternative scenario, then you're an idiot. An idiot on a windup.
