Celtic reinstated in Champions League

Featured Replies

Hilarious really considering the un-registered player only came on for 2 mins at the end of the game when the tie was already done and dusted. a huge fine would of been suffice!

to put this into perspective - so a club has been suspended from the competition and will miss out on thousands of euros of prize money by playing an illegal player for 2 mins however luiz suarez who has committed common assault on a football field no less than 3 times will probably have his suspension reduced on appeal.

awful decision.

Terrible decision.

But a shamefull club like them are used to having a brass neck so....

I'm sorry but rules are rules. Yes the tie was over, yes he only played 2 minutes but an illegal player is an illegal player. Like Remodez said, they should have known better.

Punishing the smaller club, I think someone posted on another thread earlier that another club did this a few years back and only got fined.

The decision was clearly incredible. Shouldnt have happened.

I love seeing the pro rangers side of the forum get so angry about it though. Im sure UEFA just wanted a bigger name in the draw, which is a shame for Legia.

Delia is such a bad manager Celtic will go out to Maribor anyway

UEFA is a big joke and they choose who they fine and how they fine them, we all know this.

But Legia fans should be furious with their management first and foremost!

Quote from the Legia chairman:

"Legia chairman Boguslaw Lesniodorski believes Celtic should have refused to accept the ruling after being so convincingly beaten by their Polish rivals.

“I’m very disappointed, once again football and sport lost," he said. "We hope that Celtic will react and follow fair play rules. For us what happened on the field matters.â€

Think he's going to be disappointed.

If Celtic had gone out on away goals or in a penalty shoot out with the offending player being instrumental in the outcome then I can understand this decision. But a feckin 6-1 thrashing and being played off the park to boot does not merit their progression to the next stage. A stiff fine for Legia would have sufficed in this situation. The Bouys should be very embarrassed to have progressed but I've no doubt they are smirking.

Shouldn't that say Legia chairman Frank Spencer. Him and his cohorts are solely responsible for this injustice.

Ridiculous decision because the player had sad out for three European games. But since he wasn't registered for those games, the suspension doesn't count. That's absurd UEFA!

Man City and PSG breach FFP rules and they get a fine and squad reduction, why don't they get kicked out of champions league or europa league? Absurd, UEFA never ceases to amaze me.

The rules are pretty clear, sucks for the fans of Legia but the staff should really know better.

It sucks for the fans of a club that plays at ibrox just as much it would appear.doesn't bother me .

I think it was because they hadn't registered him in time for the second leg against Celtic. I don't think you need to register playersd for matches they are suspended for.

This just boils down to the teams involved simple as that.

Celtic got humped over 2 legs and don't deserve to be in the Europa cup let alone the CL, Maribor would have ruined them anyway as well.

You know when it boils down to fielding a player that should be suspended or ineligible, shouldn't UEFA and the referees be held accountable as well? If a player wasn't allowed to play in an NBA or NFL contest, the matter would be clear and there would be no way that the officials allowed him on the field.

I mean the guy did sit out for three games for his red card from last season's Europa League, the two legs of their playoff round against St. Patrick's earlier this summer and in the first leg against Celtic. This whole mess is just unbelievable.

Perhaps Maribor will be awarded an automatic win?

Well I just read that Celtic are just going to reject Legia's plea for reinstatement. So I'm just hoping now that Celtic get put in their place even more by Maribor than they did by Legia. Maribor has now become my second favorite club for the month of August!

It's a shame they're not playing Steaua, APOEL or BATE because I think those teams would steamroll them.

Celtic are extremely lucky here. Legia have every right to feel aggrieved but as has been said on this thread, rules are rules. The death threats the person who made the mistake has been recieving are disgraceful. I doubt Celtic will get past Maribor based on the performances against Legia... So Legia and Celtic in the same Europa League group anyone?

Hasn't this happened before and UEFA just fined the team fielding the ineligible player?

Ach well, it'll be good seeing them humiliated again in the next rounds

Hope they get well beaten. They were already humiliated 6-1 and if they reach the group stages they will financially win here like the lottery. Not in a spirit of sportmanship. Well football has nothing to do with sports these days...or sports are nothing to do with sportmanship these days is maybe closer to truth.
