March 16, 201511 yr That's what worrys me about Jose. He banged on about us looking to our youth system when he came back and made several points to bring these players names up in interviews over the period he has been back. We were told the other week RLC would be ready to go next season but do we honestly think Jose will use him? I mean he doeesn't seem willing to use a guy we spent £27 million on or an INnternational French striker. It won't be long till the press start focussing on his comments regarding this.
March 16, 201511 yr What does that have to do with whether or not Mourinho is going to promote Ake or not? If anything it gives more strength to the argument that Ake won't play because Jose can feel justified in using Zouma out of position ahead of a player who is more specialised to the role. Point been that he was right to pick Zouma in those games. I really think he's trying to get the current team over the line and win the title and I think we'll see more of the younger lads next season. Edited March 16, 201511 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
March 16, 201511 yr And we won those games right? We would probally won them with a regular D/M like Ake, why keep fitting square pegs in round holes, grow a pair and trust in youth.
March 16, 201511 yr I doubt we will ever give Ake a chance...just like we have with countless other academy products.

March 17, 201511 yr I think it's all too close to the business end of the season for us to expect the likes of Ake or RLC to get game time. Shame, yes. However, I can't expect that we'll see either of them again this season barring injuries or suspensions. At this time in the season, Jose wants players with experience and character (he obviously sees that in Zouma, and maybe knowing he could play him in DM was another reason we went for him?)
March 17, 201511 yr We will never find out if he continually refuses to even give youth a chance. As I said before I think he's just trying to get this team over the line. I think we'll see more of the young lads next season.
March 17, 201511 yr on twitter today, RLC saying how blessed he is to be training with the first team. Interesting
March 25, 201511 yr Author Bit late in the season for a loan. He could have used the games much earlier on in the campaign instead of sitting in the stands.
March 25, 201511 yr Presumably this is just Mourinho doing his old mate Clarkey a favour for the key late-season run-in? Reading are in no serious danger of relegation but they have an FA Cup tie against Arsenal to navigate (although Aké is cup-tied surely). Daniel Williams got himself sent off against Charlton, Oliver Norwood only completed an hour (and got booked), while Chalobah didn't even make the bench - maybe depth in midfield is an issue? I don't see it as a bad thing, just a temporary measure to give Aké a few games he clearly wasn't going to get here. Plus he'll get to link up with Chalobah, and get a couple of months under Steve Clarke who as we know is a brilliant defensive coach. Hope he does well!
March 25, 201511 yr think he's looked reliable enough without having that something extra that could give him a real chance of establishing himself. a bit like ryan bertrand actually- clearly a good player, but it is hard to imagine him ever being a first choice here. p.s. having said that I'd be happy with producing a couple of phil neville's- dependable squad players that cost nothing and count as home grown are surely worth keeping.

March 26, 201511 yr Only a month loan and during that time he isn't eligible for Reading's FA Cup tie with Arsenal. Not sure how much game time he is likely to see during that period?
March 26, 201511 yr Well Reading have eight games left to play in the next six weeks, not counting the FA Cup game(s), which Aké is ineligible for. It looks like they have played four players at CM with any regularity - one of whom (Williams) is suspended and one of whom (Chalobah) is injured. I had a glance at a Reading forum - they also have a young centre mid called Aaron Kuhl most of the Reading fans would prefer to start in favour of Aké, not because they necessarily think he is better, but because they think the last few games of the season are largely dead rubbers (they are nine points clear of the relegation spots with a game in hand) and if they are going to give time to any youngsters they would rather it was one of their own. However, Kuhl hasn't featured at all since October, and hasn't played a single minute under Steve Clarke. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect Aké to start at least three or four games; the longest gap between any two of Reading's games until the end of the season is four days - they are definitely going to need to rest people. I would imagine their main priority now is the semi-final against Arsenal, so they will want their strongest XI for that, but it comes four days after a game against league leaders Bournemouth and four days before a game against Birmingham, who are only three points ahead of them, so we will probably see Aké in one or the other, or even both. I can see why people are skeptical, but it is very unlikely that this will be the exercise in futility a few of you seem to be predicting, he will definitely play at least a couple of games. If he impresses he will play even more often.

Assuming he is eligible for their game on the 22nd he at most is going to make 5 appearances for them.

Ah ok, according to the Reading site it can be extended so presumably they're waiting to see how Chalobah recovers from his injury or something, and to be fair the Championship season finishes twelve days later. That said, five competitive games in a month is nothing to be sniffed at! He's only actually made three league appearances for the under-21s anyway so it's not like he'll really be missing much.

Just seems a bit odd to send him out on loan now. Is this because RLC has essentially overtaken Ake in the pecking order at Chelsea and so he's essentially surplus to our requirements until the end of the season so we've shipped him off to get some football before next season?

I reckon Reading instigated it rather than the other way round. My best guess is that Clarkey asked to borrow a player for a month (or more) as Reading were short a couple of bodies at centre mid and had a glut of games coming up. Presumably we thought 'why not?', knowing that he wasn't going to be trusted to play for us during a title run-in, especially with Mikel coming back.

He hasn't played anywhere near enough football but I think he has a future here because he's homegrown, he's versatile and he's a good footballer. I can't think of a single time he's played when he hasn't done well for us but he needs experience.
March 26, 201511 yr Short period, but even in 5-6 games player can prove his talent. Good luck to him!
