The rumours of Pique to Chelsea are gathering pace so I thought they deserved their own thread, with several news outlets (not just tabloids) reporting it.

 

I wouldn't mind if it happened, more cover is rarely a bad thing, though Zouma looked good midweek, and he would challenge for a starting spot. JT's form could dip sometime this season/next or he could retire soon-ish but it doesn't look like happening soon.

 

Thoughts?

 

How is Laporte doing? He was good last season I heard.

Got a few discipline problems at the moment apparently, was using his phone on the bench last week during an exhibition game.

I think he is a better defender than Cahill but the only reason why we might sign him is with the view of being Terry's successor as and when he starts to be able to play less.

No thanks, i have never been impressed by him. Maybe it's because he has played in Barcelona teams that don't actually defend, but from what i have seen of Pique he's just not that good.

Never forgiven him the way he celebrated in front of the Chelsea fans at SB when Barcelona beat us on away goals, total twat.

He's bad option, we don't need him.

I'd have Pique here at Chelsea despite any previous. Unfortunately I think JT only has one, two at most, good season left in him and we will need someone to partner Cahill at CB. Then again we have Zouma in the wings but I still think he may have some learning and growing to do before he's a first team regular. He'll get there eventually but I think that Pique, at 27, is a good idea until Zouma reaches that level.

 

Plus, I'm pretty sure Fabregas wouldn't mind seeing an old face again.

When Terry is replaced wouldn't you prefer him to be a bit younger and good ? Pique can't even get a regular spot in the Barcelona team, a team that doesn't see defending as a skill. There has got to be better defenders out there that would be cheaper.

Pretty sure Belletti is an exception as he was a full back before he joined us ;) top player he was.

I think this could happen along with the Titus Bramble rumour. Then we just have to buy back the defensive rock that was David Luiz.

Good god, no. Just no. He is obviously good with the ball but his defending at times is atrocious, he was made to look good by Puyol who bailed him out time after time. He would be as big a liability in defence as Luiz was, so why on earth does anyone think Jose would sign him after getting rid of Luiz?

If Terry had a sudden loss of form, which could happen, would people want a Zouma-Cahill partnership or someone bought in their prime? I know it hasn't looked like happening to Terry but when you get towards your mid 30s it does happen.

Does he qualify as homegrown?

I believe he does.

We've been blessed with JT and he's always worked best with a 'busier' player next to him, like Ricci, like Cahill and in my eyes Zouma is another one of them. What we need is another 'rock' at the back and Pique sort of looks like that (Puyol doing his cleaning up, and then Mascherano latterly).

 

But I've never rated him. That Barca team has been unique in their style of play for a number of years so it's hard to judge individuals in the team, but to be frank Cesc never pulled up trees there and neither did Song or Zlatan or Alexis Sanchez or Yaya and look how they've done elsewhere.

 

If Jose thinks he's right then I'll trust him. If he's sh*t then we can always sell him to PSG for £50 million, right?
